“Very Accommodating”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 23, 2013

Stayed here for only one night with Kiwi Experience and was put in an 8 bed dorm with 5 guys and a couple (a bit overwhelming when my first night in a mixed dorm was the night before!). So I asked to move to a less male room at the front desk and the lady was really nice and understanding and moved me straight away.
The rooms are really clean, as are the bathrooms and the kitchen, could do with a few more pots though as everyone eats at roughly the same time!
There's a living area with a small TV, some computers and a coin operated massage chair.
Conveniently next door to a bar/restaurant, although didn't visit so not sure what it's like - they do deals with the hostel thought for meals and drinks.
There's a big convenience store right around the corner which sells everything you need for a quick stopover, mini golf and flying fox right across the road; and it's situated next to the coast where I was able to get an Aqua Taxi to the Abel Tasmin National Park (about 15-20mins away on water).

This hostel is located right on the edge of Abel Tasman National Park and would be a good starting point if you were planning to trek around or through it.

We arrived here late on one of the nights and all of the restaurants and bars were unfortunately closed. The receptionist did mention that it was a shame though because the bar usually had cheap drinks and the food was good. The room that we were in had four bunk beds and we barely had enough room for the seven of us in there. There were communal showers and toilets throughout the hostel and I know a few rooms had an ensuite bathroom.

The beds were comfy although the bunk beds were smaller/lower so it would be difficult to sit on if you were a bit taller. The heater in our room didn't happen to work well but since it wasn't that cold, it wasn't a big deal. The problem was the one outlet for the seven of us sharing the room. We had to take turns charging items.

The kitchen has a few pots and pans but I would not consider it a decked out kitchen. There are a few burners and stoves though so you can definitely cook a full out meal.

The hostel is located right across the street from the beach and it's a very short walk to a different beach and a little walk up to a lookout point. There is a corner shop nearby and a kids' playground right next to the hostel also. I believe there was a mini golf course also but it was closed.

There are many events in the area that you can book such as a water taxi and kayaking. I didn't do any of the activities but I heard that they both were fun and worth the price.

It would be a decent stopping point for a night or so but I wouldn't consider it somewhere that I would love to stay at again.

Hi yes Kaiteriteri is quiet in the winter months albeit out restaurant and bar are open 4 nights per week and there are still a range of water activities to do, in the summer the place is humming, we suggest in winter our customers take advantage of the unique location and enjoy the tranquillity and beautiful walks and scenery.

We're a couple in our 20s and we stayed here for two nights with the Kiwi Experience...

Good
- Great room. We went for the private double bed and you get an en suite, fridge, tea and coffee making facilities and a great shower.
- Kitchen is pretty good, no complaints
- Location is ideal, less than 5mins walk away from the Abel Tasman activity folks

Bad
- Wi-fi and internet is extremely expensive
- It's not strictly speaking a 'backpacker' place; families stay here, and the adjoining bar is more of a local than a easy-going place to have a drink

Room Tip: Get a private room! It's a little bit more but it's worth the money

Thanks for your feedback, yes the location is special and the beaches beautiful and we are close to all activities available in the Abel Tasman national park .
The wifi is provided to us by an internet service provider and cost $5.00 for 24 hours .
We have dorm and ensuited rooms available and we are pleased to offer affordable options for different customer requirements.

We stayed one night here before heading into Abel Tasman. The location is great as we were able to get an early start with the aqua taxi stopping at the beach about 1 minute's walk away. The room was functional and clean with a tv and tea & coffee. I'd say this is fine for one or two nights to explore Abel Tasman, but maybe not for a longer stay.

Your right - an awesome place to stay for location to all of the Abel Tasman National Park operators in the area - only a 1min walk away.

We certainly offer long term prices and over the summer months as well as any other time of year have families staying up to 10 nights or more.

My husband and I stayed here for one night. We arrived early evening and discovered it was the only place available. It is a back packers lodge and we were given a double room with an Ensuite for $80. Although the room was quite small it was adequate with tea, coffee making facilities, fridge and heater. It was very clean and we had a good nights sleep considering there were 20 young tourists from Kiwi Experience staying. Also had a lovely meal next door at the bar/cafe and they had a lovely fire going. The location is great with the beach just metres away. Also had the best breakfast at Shoreline cafe right on the beach the following morning. We would stay here again.

Thank you for your comments and review. Yes, not many options as a walk in type accommodation this time of year. We do our best to get the message out that we are open all year round with winter the perfect time to travel - a fabulous time to get out on the water in and around the Abel Tasman National Park.

Quiet place. 8 bed dorm nice, bit small. Bathroom good. Communal kitchen very good, and other areas. Few minutes walk to the beach. I would stay here again. Pub next door had a pub quiz on - alright, but strange questions, and you had to pay to play, bit weird!

I stay here for 1 night the hostel was small and basic but good for one night. The hostel was a short walk to the beach and the few shops which was good! The bathrooms were clean however there wasn't many of them so when it's busy that was difficult! The kitchen area again was small and got very cramped with lots of people in the kitchen, and the bowls and plates you rent are not microwaveable which isn't great when ur backpacking! Next to the hostel is a pub which serves really good food and is nice to go for a drink or 2!

Thank you for your comments - we will review the crockery used for back packers and the issue of microwave safe crock-ware.
