“Beautiful home from home”
Reviewed April 1, 2017 for a stay in October 2016

Beautiful house.
We went in late October so the weather was getting cold but we were in time for the heat swimming pool.

The house is superbly equipped for the 9 of us and the open fire in the evening was an added bonus. There are games, books, outside equipment and all the items you could possibly need for the kitchen.

If your going I would recommend the ferry and it was a 4-5 hour drive from the tunnel but if you do it in stages its not that bad.

Amazing!

“Great family Christmas!”
Reviewed December 30, 2016 for a stay in December 2016

We stayed here over the Christmas week this year. We were a family group of 10, including 3 kids age 4, 5 & 7, plus my disabled mother. The house is really stunning, a traditional Normandy farmhouse that has been beautifully restored into a family home.

The downstairs is vast, with a number of connecting rooms - hallway into dining room, into lounge, into kitchen, into kitchen/breakfast room. Loads of room to find peace or for the kids to charge around (!).

My mother also appreciated being able to scoot around without concerns of steps, so that was one less headache! Also the downstairs bedroom was perfectly suited for my parents & the bathroom thoughtfully laid out.

Upstairs was split into 2, I guess originally 2 buildings knocked into 1. This means that there are 2 staircases. In the hallway you access what is more of a kids bedroom with 3 single beds and a double, plus a pull out sofa bed. However, the bathroom is at the bottom of the stairs. Not an issue for my kids (we lifted the little one each night just incase!), but could be for kids getting up in the middle of the night looking for the toilet. The other staircase is accessed from the lounge, there are 2 doubles and 2 twin bedrooms, an ensuite bathroom and a family bathroom. Nice size, bright rooms. Really comfortable mattresses, and the duvets and pillows were clean & fresh. Although if you like big fluffy pillows, bring your own.

The lounge was stunning, big open log fire that didn't smoke, which we enjoyed every evening, even though the central heating kept the house very warm! Big thank you to Estelle for providing a Christmas tree, the kids were super excited! The 'formal' dining room was perfect for Christmas lunch. The kitchen breakfast room was great too and although it looks small in the photos, it does seat 10 fairly easily for more intimate lunches or dinners. The kitchen was well equipped with pretty much everything you could ask for and more!

The house was situated off a quite lane so it was really peaceful and lots of walks without too many cars or tractors. Hambye itself had a great butcher and bakery, but we tended to head towards Granville / Gavray for bigger supermarket shops.

Would thoroughly recommend this house. It felt like home, and we also chose it because it wasn't too fussy with over decorated furniture or china decorations etc, so we could relax with the children around!

“Perfect holiday house for extended family with small children”
Reviewed September 20, 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We were a party of 10 including 4 lively cousins of 6,5,3, and 2. This was an ideal house, simply furnished with a large well kept, secure garden. The swimming pool was also completely secure with a coded lock and heated to just the right temperature. Children could race round the garden and find 'secret' corners while parents and grandparents relaxed under the sunshade, drink in hand.
Hambye and morning croissants was a cycle ride away and expeditions were made to Granville, Hambye Abbey and Arromanches. It must be said that the highlight may have been a velo-ride along a disused railway while conducting an acorn fight!

“Lovely- Spacious inside and out, simply charming-well stocked”
Reviewed November 4, 2014 for a stay in October 2014

What a lovely place to stay.
Simple clean well stocked house perfect for house. Very countryside based perfect for us, with walnuts, chanterelle mushrooms and a medlar tree in the garden. Although the weather was great we lit the fire on wet days and lots of space, table tennis and board games available.

Locals in Hambye very friendly and helpful. Perfect for cycle rides, bikes in shed. Nearby Hambye abbey beautiful and good for picnics.

Bayeux worth a visit and especially the tapestry.
We ran out of time to enjoy everything so I hope that means we return.

“Pure indulgence. The countryside at your fingertips.”
Reviewed October 19, 2014 for a stay in September 2014

Excellent accomodation. Comprehensive equiped with great lay out. Large comfortable rooms, large dining table and same to exterior. We used the swimming pool everyday. In the morning some of us took to the roads and ran, taking in the breath taking scenery. Took approx 3/4 - 1hr to travel to D Day beaches. Previously belonged to local doctor. Everyone slept well, great mattresses. A comprehensive range of items, in kitchen. Wasnt anything that we needed in order to cook up meals for 12 people. Even a washing machine and tumble dryer. Local town of Percy approx 2 miles away includes supermarket, pharmacy and places to eat.
I would happily recommend the accomodation and the professional way in which the owners dealt with bookings, payments, right down to clean crisp cotton sheets. (additional payment but worth it).

“Brilliantly equipped house in charming surroundings”
Reviewed May 21, 2014 for a stay in May 2014

The house offered everything for which we could wish. Extremely spacious, our 12 guests easily fitted in with room to spare. The bedrooms and bathrooms were lovely but the house is made by its extensive communal areas including a sizeable kitchen, vast dining room and enormous sitting room complete with open fire. Outside there is space to sit and eat, a gas BBQ and lovely garden running down to the charming pool. Ping pong table an absolute winner too. Positioned very close to Hambye and Percy (both well serviced in terms of shops) and near to the lovely Villedieu les Poeles, there is plenty to see and do. The seaside is just 25 minutes away and some of our party enjoyed a couple of rounds of golf at the 9-hole links course at Golf de Granville. Granville itself is also lovely. We had a wonderful time and will hopefully return very soon.

“What an absolutely wonderful, peaceful, relaxing and stunning cottage to stay in!”
Reviewed June 19, 2013 for a stay in April 2013

It was our first time here at Le Mesnil Gonfroy. We had spent a long time looking for the perfect cottage to stay in with our seven children, and we definitely found it here! We have an age range from 16yrs down to 2yrs, and every one of us loved staying here and wanted to stay longer. All the children loved playing in the garden, lots of space for them to burn off their energy. The boys especially loved the huge open fire in the living room, as did Ian! The table tennis was well utilised by us all - great for when the weather not so good. Our eldest daughter loved having the downstairs bedroom - such a pretty and very French bedroom, with lots of space, great for sitting and relaxing in, perfect for using the free wifi, and great ensuite for getting the younger ones ready for bed. The house was so well equipped - we were not short of anything. I especially loved the kitchen - it had everything I needed and more! We especially loved having large family breakfasts every morning there. One of my sons loved the trolley they have - he wheeled it through to the large dining room every night for family dinner, loaded it up with everything to set the table and wanted to wait on everyone. I could go on a lot more about all the things we loved about staying here, but instead, recommend that you find out for yourself.
We loved exploring the area and village and everyone was very friendly. It is a perfect place to stay for venturing out to many of the famous places they have in Normandy. We especially enjoyed going to Mont St Michel and Utah Beach. We also made a lot of use of the nearby sports centre for swimming (the pool at the cottage was still closed for the season) and also for the astro turf pitches there for boys to play football.
I think the only negative thing I would say about Le Mesnil Gonfroy would be one of the double beds there was quite noisy even when lightly sat on, and with being a metal framed bed was also a bit shakey, but I am sure that isn't hard to sort for future.
All in all, we had a fantastic time together, and we will definitely go back there again next year if we can.
