“Unusual hotel-worth staying to see the beautiful area around”
Reviewed August 10, 2013

We stayed here for 2 days and loved the balcony view straight out onto the rainforest and the community below. There wasn't a lot of storage in the room and the air con was impossible to get right (many other guests said this too), but we weren't there for the room, but the experience! If you feel brave, you can have a bath / shower without the blinds open. However, they are starting to extend the hotel. so we pulled the blinds down, just in case! We ate in the restaurant during the evening and found it to be good as compared to some places on our Cuban travels. Breakfast had less choice than other places we'd stayed. The open to the air bar was great and you had a fantastic view of the valley below. Reception staff were particularly helpful and friendly. The pool had lovely surrounds and also a pool bar where you could eat during the day. We did a guided nature hike from the hotel (about 7km)-worth doing and also went on the canopy zip wire - a brilliant experience! We had a local map, so did some shorter "strolls" ourselves. There are plenty of places to eat in the community as well as well as a 24 hour bar in the village should you like that! Do take mosquito spray though if hiking (but reception warn you about this)

Room Tip: We had Room 11 with a big balcony and good view, but next door to the new extension. This wasn't...

Upon arrival we were given the wrong room and so half of our 5 person party had to be moved to a temporary room in the workers accommodation building. This room was not pleasant with poor air conditioning and a dirty bath, so the next day we were moved back up to the main building and the quality of the room improved vastly. One of the receptionists was very apologetic and you could tell he was frightened by the prospect of us becoming angry. The restaurant wasn't great but there was no other option so we just stuck to basic dishes - at least it was cheap. The pool area is very nice, with an open bar that serves drinks all day. Overall the rooms were of a high quality in the main building but the restaurant is a no go if you can find an alternative nearby. I would happily stay here again as it is part of the Cuban experience.

Room Tip: Get one on the top floor as they have a really good view of the town and are away from the flooding.

If you want the best countryside views imaginable, from your own enormous balcony or as you relax in the bath then stay here. The rooms are gorgeous even with a small leak when it rains. We took the opportunity to trek with a guide in the undisturbed forest and we enjoyed the ambience of the whole, wonderful village complex. It’s a great concept and the nearby vegetarian restaurant serves top quality, imaginative dishes.

This is a very good place if you like walking and being in nature. The rooms of the hotel are the best we've seen in Cuba, very clean, spacious and a bathroom with a fantastic view. The restaurant of the hotel is not good, please skip the breakfast and dinner here. There is an organic restaurant around the corner. It is advisable to hire a walking guide, our walk took 3 hours through the forrest and we really enjoyed it.

The biosphere location is excellent. The hotel building itself is OK, but would give it extra star as you have to forgive for the eco principle. It poured down when we were there and there were big leaks into the valley-facing bathroom area and the reception area. Restaurant was the usual Cuban hotel crappy affair, one night went to the vegetarian option down the hill, which was a nice change. Very interesting to explore the surroundings with excellent guide. Pool was OK, but dominated by local day-trippers (it was weekend) indulging less than savoury practices in the bushes .....

This is an interesting and unique place. We found the community really interesting and the people very friendly. The hotel is the only choice if you want to stay here. The food isn't up to much but the hotel is charming in a unique way, very at one with nature. I loved sitting in the open bar which makes you feel like your in a tree house. The rooms are basic but surprisingly comfortable - not modern although they have the necessities. Bathroom is novel. Came here for peace and quiet and got some on the first night but on the second night there was a band playing in the main square below until 2am which was very loud, no warning, no apologies! However overall this place is well worth a visit.

We stayed at this Hotel for 2 nights. I had no idea what to expect after reading the comments here, but after 2 weeks of backpacking in Cuba and staying in all sorts of places, I have to say that this was the best hotel. The location is amazing, on top of a small mountain looking out on the valley and everything is so green. The room is big, comfortable and has a nice balcony. The bathroom is also super nice and big. We loved the large windows from floor to ceiling in the shower. Nobody can see you from up there so we never closed the curtains and it was the best shower ever looking out on a valley and all the trees!

As most people wrote, the hotel food is not very good. We ate at the vegetarian restaurant and though my boyfriend is not a vegetarian food fan he liked it and I really enjoyed it. Also, do not expect much from the pool. I found it was not super clean and you most likely don't want to hang out too much around.

We booked an excursion to Cayo Levisa (70 CUC/ person) from the hotel. It was one of the best day we had in Cuba, not only because of the beautiful beach but also because of our guide who told us so much about the country and also because of all the landscape and glimpse of people's life that we got on the 2 hour ride their. We would have liked to do the hikes but since I was 28 weeks pregnant at that point, I decided that with the heat it was just too much.

Only warning, we arrived by Viazul and the bus does not drop you off directly at the hotel. Very few cabs in this area and after waiting for 20 minutes for one, we walked 20 min to the hotel. To get back, we asked the hotel to reserve a cab for us and that went well.
