“Great hotel to relax and enjoy nature”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

The hotel is situated on a hill with a panoramic view of the village, the hills and the lake.Although it is popular among the group-organized tourists,it retains an ecological approach and it is in harmony with the environment, with trees and gardens in and around it.Our room was very spacious ,whith high wooden ceiling and big windows ,which allowed for uninterrupted views to the hills, through the whole room ,even from the bathroom. It also had a private spacious terrace to relax.Staff was friendly and they organized guided tours to the hills and canopy tour also. The snack bar makes great sandwiches among other things and the view is excellent also.It is worth visiting Las Terrazas with its great landscape and this hotel is ideal for that.

Lovely, quiet and unassuming hotel built around trees looking over the village of Los Terrazas. Buffet breakfast not extensive and not always replenished. Situation is lovely though, The band that played at dinner were great, and their performance the next night at the village Boathouse was brill. Fab night dancing with locals and drinking cheap rum and cokes! It is a 2 star hotel which some of our fellow travellers felt was better than their 3-4 * in Havanna. Great base for walking, touring and trying out the zip wire ride

Room Tip: All rooms have views out across the village

La Moka in Las Terrazas was the perfect start to our holiday in Cuba. After a long flight from London it was a great place to unwind, I only wish the cockerels had been advised that we wanted a lie in. However the staff and the hotel were fantastic, only wish we had managed to try the Vegetarian restaurant in the village which had such rave reviews as the hotel restaurant is somewhat lacking, but that might be only as I have some dietary restrictions. The room was large and the bathroom slightly strange with such a large window onto the forest and village below, but fortunately Venetian blinds are provided.

Had a lovely walk down to the village and stopped for coffee at Maria's, then onto a fantastic art studio, where the artist opened up just for us, then we continued our walk to Los Banos de San Juan, beautiful location and we found the perfect spot for lunch. However the thought of a long walk back was daunting but luckily we saw a taxi in the car park and with the use of schoolgirl Spanish learnt a long time ago, managed to ask if he could give us a lift back to the hotel, this was not possible as he had already been engaged, but I thought he promised to send someone back to get us, so we started walking, and 5 minutes later an old taxi turned up saying he had received a call - so thank you my Taxi God! He then took us to the coffee plantation with fantastic views, waited for us and then finally back to La Moka, all for 8 CUC's.

Room Tip: Take some warm clothes as in February there are some cold winds around, and maybe ear plugs if you d...

Las Terrazas is an unique village and La Moka Hotel fits well into it. We have never had such a great view from a bathroom - and also from our balcony.

Breakfast is good and so is dinner and staff are helpful. Lovely pool area and the hotel organises very useful walks in the forest - and gets you a discount on the zip wire.

Oddly the Internet is only available in a locked room in a back corridor, but this probably reflects Cuba's past, rather than its present.

Internally the hotel has been well decorated, but its external appearance from the Village is not so good: a coat of paint is required. Lovely place - would happily return.

We did not stay here but had coffee and toured the property. Just a beautiful setting..so peaceful and serene. All the rooms have full glass window walls so one can look out over the valley.. even the bathroom. The bed was also the largest king bed I have ever seen..If you want to be in a secluded area for a few days do stay here. They even have zip lining..

This hotel has a superb design by an architect with an international reputation. Huge trees grow through the walkways and the central lobby. Even the bathrooms have a floor to ceiling glass wall overlooking a wooded valley. It is in a wonderful location with access to some of Cuba's most charming sites. It has a beautiful pool and tennis courts surrounded by banana palms and hibiscus trees. It is not a 5 star hotel and that shows in a number of small ways, but no one is there for the mod cons. It was an excellent base for one of the best legs of our Cuban holiday.

We loved it. The relative peace, the extraordinary location, the spacious colonial style room, and above all, the fabulous El Romero vegetarian restaurant which became our canteen during our stay. We arrived from Vinales, which we found particularly touristy as a favourite day trip for coach parties from Havana, and were immediately taken by the more relaxed cooler air of this small hillside hotel. About 36 simple but comfortable rooms are built around a number of trees that grow through the floors and ceilings. There is also a swimming pool with its own bar/cafe nearby. The local town for restaurants, souvenirs etc can be accessed by foot down several steep flights of steps that aren't particularly well lit at night. We took a prearranged guided nature tour, which we could just have easily made on our own, and others made the short trek to nearby springs.
