“Great Golf Course”
Reviewed December 21, 2012

While we didn't stay at the property we had a great day out. This started off with one of the best breakfasts I have had in Spain, followed by 18 holes of great golf. The course was in fantastic condition with lightening fast greens. While there were signs of the impact of the recent bad weather, work was already underway to fix this.

The clubhouse is spacious with a fantastic balcony overlooking the 18th, I'll definitely go back.

We've stayed here a few times now as my Mum's boss owns one of the villas, which she lets us have at a pretty decent rate! The villas are outstandingly good - ours has 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, lounge, kitchen, aircon, private garden and pool. The resort itself is a little odd... there's always the promise of a lot of things being open (the hotel, the shops, the bars, the restaurants, etc etc etc), but every time we've been it's been pretty quiet there with little going on. This last time there were two bars open, but both were distinctly average and seemed to cater for 'brits abroad' rather than offer anything local. Having said that we had a couple of good evenings in both when they had entertainment on (which the kids loved). The location of the golf resort is pretty good as you can get to Lorca, Mazarron, Cartegna etc within an hour, as well as some truly fabulous beaches (especially recommend the beach at Mil Palmeras!).

Our family had a fab two weeks in this lovely resort. The villa we had was very luxurious and had every convenience we could possibly have needed and was very inexpensive, and for August was a bargain.

We all enjoyed the communal pool outside the villa as it was so exceptionally hot. All the sporting facilities were superb but it was too hot to play golf in the afternoon, but the bonus is that the tennis courts are floodlit and you can play in the evening when it's a lot cooler

We visited the surrounding beaches during the day and then came back to the resort for a nice meal in the evening. We had no worries about driving as we had three restaurants to choose from, a stones throw from the villa. Alternatively we had a great barbecue in the garden

We went down to the Plaza in the Spanish village on the Friday evening. It had a lovely atmosphere and was buzzing. Also there was a small market there. I would recommend Kennerlys bar and restaurant.

The Spaniard Inn is very reasonably priced too. We are recommending to our friends and will be back soon

A very good concept destroyed by useless marketing, overpricing and missed deadlines. Always deserted which is great for those wanting to play on the excellent golf course. This ghost town reminds me of somewhere soldiers train for urban warfare; all the buildings but no people. Only decent catering facility is the Club house which presents good food in an attractive, impressive and atmospheric setting. Opened four weeks ago (will it last the summer) Kennellys located in the deserted plaza surrounded by a whole "Spanish Village" of unsold town houses and apartments is a very poor excuse for a bar/restaurant. What limited fare they can offer is of poor, bordering on substandard, quality at prices that whilst lower than the UK are more than double what you would pay elsewhere in Spain. The place is overstaffed with not very good waiting staff and seems to be home to the "town drunks" one of whose sole occupation seems to be obtaining free drinks from the bar staff and other patrons. Spaniards Inn whilst priced in a way that any virtual monopoly would be provides decent food and drinks in a nice atmosphere although the food is mostly fried and is definitely more functional than enjoyable; although that does not make it bad.
All in all the sporting facilities and general security are good. The place is well landscaped, clean and tidy. Hacienda is mostly inhabited in the summer and then by people who spent enormous sums of money for not particularly impressive dwellings who must be really aggrieved that not that far away a comparable beach front property is available for 25% of what they paid for their inland properties.
If you come as a group; family friends, or sporting society, for a few days then this is more than adequate. For anything more than that it is sadly lacking which is a real shame because the basics are there and are very good. Maybe if they ever get to sell the 90% of properties that are unsold, the empty shops will open, the hotel will commence operations and the whole ambience will change.

By dropped into see Hacienda del Alamo, not having seen it for a few years. Security guard on the gate let us in without stopping us, a mistake surely? The resort is maturing nicely and Gardeners were out in force keeping it looking smart. We had lunch in the clubhouse. Nice grub - average to ok. Service ok, but waiters English was as bad as my Spanish! The clubhouse is super. Like other golf resorts in this area, most of the properties remain empty most of the time, which gives the place a rather empty feel. The golf course looked in great shape. The resort is some way from town, so you definitely need a car. This place is definitely one of the better run golf resorts in this area and we'd consider staying there.

Just recently returned from staying in a gorgeous villa in the resort. It has fantastic views and a nice chilled out atmosphere. The people are very friendly and always willing to answer any questions.
The resort is very clean and looked after very well, it has 2 very nice pubs on the resort 'The Spaniard Inn' and 'Kennellys Bar'. Both have lovely staff and very nice food and have themed nights. There is also the clubhouse which does very nice food and overlooks the fantastic golf course.
The villa in which we stayed 'Casa Penllyn' was lovely, very clean and tidy, and had a fab communal pool outside the back gate of the villa. We went to the beach on one occasion, which was about 25 minutes away. A car is a necessity in this area e.g. to be able to get to the supermarket, beach etc.
The nearby town of Fuerto Alamo had shops, banks, bars and restaurants.
A very enjoyable, relaxing holiday, with lovely weather and fantastic views. Intend to return in the near future.
