“Good Hostel in cool location”
Reviewed January 15, 2011

The Hostel is in a good location and provides bikes, 2 man kayaks and walking tours. The price for hire and tours is very reasonable and the owners are very friendly and a good laugh.

My girlfriend and I enjoyed a fantastic short break with Nick and Greg at their recently opened hostel right on the side of the lake. It's in an ideal location, close enough to walk into town centre, but far enough away to avoid the noise at night. We were there over the busiest weekend of the year and so heard some party noise from the neighbours, but we were assured by the locals that this was the exception. Our bed had a brand new double mattress which was very comfortable. Private rooms also have brand new TV's, as does the communal room along with DVD player and a selection of films. The kitchen is of course available to all and the balcony gives a great view of the lake and rock. Free WiFi. In the course of one day we enjoyed horse riding, kayaking, fishing and then a Bar B Q on the terrace to cook the two trout that we had caught. Nick and Greg are extremely helpful and sociable people and have ideal personalities to make this hostel a great success. Andrea and I wish them luck.

This is a lovely hostel about 5 mins from town. Make sure you do the waterfall trek. It's a small trek up amazing jungle. The hostel has a lovely common area with tv and free wifi. The view from the balcony is amazing and there is plenty of water sports nearby. Would without a doubt stay here again!

Has a great time here. The location is perfect as it is a five minute walk to town, and so is very quiet at night.
Being right next to the lake and the hills around it, it is a great location if you fancy an early morning swim or canoe ride.
There is a great little bar next door too, which was perfect for having a relaxing beer at night and enjoying the scenery.
Lake view has more of a B&B feel, rather than a typical backpacker hostel, as the rooms are spacious and clean.
The hostel has a very relaxed ambiance
Greg and Nick who run the place will make you very welcome and go out of their way to make guests comfortable
I'm looking forward to going back.

it has everything there mountins ...rivers .....a huge lake.....and a perfect temperture for me..
the hostel itself is bueitiful it is an old style house with a balcony overlooking the the lake...it has a lot of style to say the least...when i arrived there wasnt many people there because they had just opened it up they was still painting a cuple of rooms...
gregg and nick were great very very helpfull with everything and they have a lot to do there like kayaking...fishing...mountinbikes....you can take a boat trip around the huge lake and there is also a bbq on sundays which i loved there is a little bar outside the hostel which i was bizzy back and forth with my beers for the day while the food was cooking by gregg the chef for the day .....there were colombian guys pulling up to the bar on there horses with traditinal punchos drinking the local agua diente ....it has a clasic colombian feel to it ....then it was on to the hourse for a trip through the mountins for a sunset view of the famouse rock ...i cant explain how good my stay was i want to live in guatape i love the place the only wish i had was that i didnt go there earlier because i was stuck in medellin partying and well if i would of known about this place i would have left medellin earlier...
if you want to see traditional colombia in a safe inviroment this is the place and well there is so much to do we had a hike one day and after half and hour we was climing up a river in the mountins surounded by thick jungle ......after 40 mins we arrived at a waterfall with swimming holes ....
if you are in medellin or passing to medellin you have defenetly have got to check this place out my highlite of colombia by far ......

This place is great. Greg couldnt be more helpful. During the week the town is empty so you have an enormous lake to yourself for Kayaking or renting boats. Find a cove take swim!! Also we went on a trek up a river which was awesome and rented bikes, cycled to the rock and climbed it! Basically its one stop shop for outdoor acitivities. I wasn't there for the weekend but I imagine by the amount of party boats on the front that the place kicks off with Medillin party goers.

Skip the coffee region go to Guatape, you wont regret it.

My experience at this hostel was awesome! I was only planning to come check out La Piedra del Penol and was pleasantly surprised at the array of activities that were available for a traveler in this area. I was welcomed to the newly opened hostel at the inauguration BBQ with a delicious steak dinner, a handful of warm and fun people and an adorable puppy named Sofia!! I had a blast at this place! Swimimng in a nearby river, exploring the beautiful city of Guatape, drinking endless cervezas with an awesome crowd and seeing a spectacular view from the top of La Piedra!! The hostel is very nice with lots of patio space, large and clean rooms, comfortable beds, hot water... It has a lot to offer; kayaking, bike riding, Spanish classes, a variety of volunteering opportunities, a very informal and relaxed atmosphere and great owners!! HIGHLY recommended!!
