“Quiet away from Cairns”
Reviewed February 8, 2006

We enjoyed our stay at Cairns Beach Resort the staff were very friendly and efficient. It was nice to be just out of Cairns as it does not have a real beach only a man made one as it is a harbour.

Easy bus transportation to the Cairns and back. Great restaurant nearby and convenience store nearby to by all your odds and ends.

The beach is netted but this is a blessing with the rare threat of Crocodiles and Sharks along the North Queensland coast but better to be safe than sorry.

The units were very nice and clean and had everything we needed for the week.

Thank you to RCI for booking this for us.

We stayed in the Cairns Beach Resort and we found the initial appearance was good from the outside but inside was a different story. If you plan to have your sheets cleaned and the bed made, it's not happening here. We got no towels one day, the bed sheets were not cleaned and the bed was not made on the 2nd day. This wouldn't be that big of a deal to me but the roach we found on the bed along with the ants in the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen turned me off completely. We tried to contact reception after hours (8 pm) and no one answered the phone. The reception area is not open 24 hours. We left early even though we prepaid for the week and found better accomodations elsewhere. When we mentioned the problems calmly at the reception desk the following morning, she did not try to accomodate us in another room and did not apologize for the inconvenience. Better accomodations are available elsewhere in Cairns for the same price!

My brother and I spent over a week at the Cairns Beach Resort in May 2003 and were pretty pleased. My brother was backpacking across Australia for a year, and I went for 16 days to meet up with him, and see Sydney and Cairns, while doing some diving, rafting etc. We'd never been to Cairns, so had no idea how the town was situated, and where the hotel was in comparison. I'm not a hostel user, so needed something in Cairns that was at least comparable to my living conditions.

As far as the hotel itself, we were very pleased. I found it to be highly affordable (about $60 USD a night, if I recall), and for that we got a spotless 1BR unit. The unit's bedroom had 2 single beds, there was a full bath, full washer and dryer, a decently-equipped kitchen, and a nice living room with a pullout sofa, and smallish TV, and a dining area. Balcony was very nice and we ate breakfast out there daily, enjoying the awesome weather. The hotel has a nice pool, and the staff were quite friendly. Holloway's Beach kind of sucked since it was netted off, and the water was shallow and rather murky. I was less than pleased with this since I really wanted some beach time.

As far as location, you are not in Cairns. We took the city bus back and forth daily, which was very cheap. Its about 20 minutes or so. If you are stuck with a cab, the cost isnt astronomical, but it will add up. Since the immediate hotel area lacked a decent grocery store (there are a couple of restaurants nearby), we did grocery shopping in town and brought back stuff on the bus, and BBQ'd steaks a few times out by the pool. This was a very nice feature!

Overall, its a very nice hotel, but the location doesnt offer much. If you want to be away from the city a bit, and have some great relaxation, it fits the bill.

The amenities at this hotel are really great - the apartments are clean and roomy, there are washer/dryers in the apartments and there is a lovely pool (I'd have to say the pool is the best part of the hotel). Holloways Beach is not very nice and you have to swim within a small, netted area due to jelly fish, sharks, and crocs in the water. This hotel is also pretty far out of the way from the central city - it is in the middle of a residential area and there are about 3 restaurants and a convenience store within walking distance. A cab ride to the city costs $20 each way. Oh, we also had an ant problem in the apartment...
