“Needs a lot of TLC and pest control”
Reviewed August 8, 2013

At first it was very nice looking place from the outside and once we walk-in we like it so we decide to stay one night and our room was smelly and when i open the windows to get some air, the same i had to closed them because there's no screen on it and mosquitoes where coming in, we decide to go to the pool and it was cold but the surrounding very nice peace and quiet, very relaxing that time. Night time my family in a room of 3 beds and one of the room no cable or satellite so we had to watch TV on the other room and ask my husband to grab a pillow from the other room and he discover a RAT under the covers of the bed so he try to get it out of the room by locking the kids on the other room and place towels under so it won't go on the other room, so my husband got it out but had one of my son to film it so we can show it to management since there's NO ONE at night time as maintenance or guest service (terrible) so got it out of the room trying to find phone and there's no phone to even call someone, my cell didn't have services and the only thing i saw was a router and had to sat next to it to get internet and got a family member to try to call all the numbers we had, NO ANSWER just ringing all the time, so as I was talking thru the internet with my family member saw another RAT behind the door where the router for internet it's sitting at, so we all slept in one room and cover up from head to toes since no screen on windows mosquitoes where all over the room and sweating too gosh what a horrible night i had. Next day we told the front desk what had happened and they didn't want it to believe and my husband show them the video we took and they acted surprise about it and told my husband that it takes a month to get refund it because that's the only thing they can do so my refund never came to the acct. So they have a mayor issue with pest control, need TLC, and thief. I like the place but not to sleep.

Room Tip: None it's not a good place to sleep !!

Nice atmosphere and charm; surroundings were beautiful, but the rooms could have done with a bit of a clean and some renovation.

The first room we were offered smelt very badly of urine and feet.... the hotelier clearly knew this, as the first thing she did upon showing us the room was to fling open the windows (did not help). However, we requested to have another room, which did was much better, but still rather tired looking. Unfortunately, the water in the shower came out black for the first ten seconds.

Overall, an ok place to stay for one night if you don't have another option.

Room Tip: ask to see the room first!

Great service, available rate with local food which is great and not expensive. Problem with the cable signal but was nor in all the rooms. Cold shower i have to say. Near Tres Picachos reserve which is untoched and beautiful. Great adventure you can even camp at the reserve. Rivers all around. So nice people someone noted i was lost and stop his car (we were on the road) and offer his help with directions. Who do that? Just very nice people.

Parador in an 1850s coffee plantation that was refurbished as a parador. No coffee has been grown there for awhile. The surroundings are simply beautiful, in the shadow of mountains and all very well-kept. Enjoyed sitting on the balcony reading after supper, listening to the coqui. We were driving cross country and stayed one night. It was cool enough to not run the air. We were entertained by a rooster who crowed on the hour nearly all night long. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We had dinner and breakfast in the dining room, service was excellent, food was good, plentiful, nothing special. Pool was clean but it was too cool to swim. A little hard to find, road under construction, ask for directions. Do not miss the nearby Piedra Escrita with Taino petroglyphs. We also enjoyed the small local history museum which is in a restored country house and provides history of the nationalist uprising here in the 1950s.

Room Tip: Don't know if it's possible to avoid the neighborhood rooster! LOL

Went there in January, roads were undergoing construction works so hopefully it will be great getting there in a few months after a long trip, it wasn't impossible though. Surroundings and facilities are well kept and beautiful. They have captured the atmosphere of early century living. Restaurant needs a lot of improvement, service was good.

It's a long drive to get here, but a beautiful location. The 1st room we were shown was horrible, dark, dank, dirty and downright scary. We opted for the remodeled room which was newly painted, bathroom detailed, new flat screen and a great balcony with hammock, views and many windows. DO Not purchase the meals with room rate. Food was not worth the price and you are better off paying separately too save money. Or drive into town. There are plenty of choices, even a Burger King. The pool area was pretty. Water was too cold to swim in the day we were there since it was cool and misty. Staff was very friendly, especially Orlando who grew up in the area and translated for us with the kitchen staff. Overall, it's very overpriced, as is most of Puerto Rico, but a unique experience to spend time in a mtn. Parador that was built in 1854. The lobby area was beautiful with a nicely decorated Christmas tree and we enjoyed sitting on the balconies in rocking chairs listening to coqui frogs and watching fireflies at night.

Room Tip: Make sure to look at the room first as they are in drastically different conditions.

I know that Puerto Rico is surronded by water, but you'd never know it here! Came back to our rooms about 10PM on a recent visit and no water, no shower, no sink, no toilet...no water period, and no explanation. What makes it more incredible is that there was NO ONE from the Parador to speak to.The office was in darkness and there was no one from maintenence. The rooms were in great need of repair, chipping paint and moldy carpeting. There was a TV, but no remote, so no way to use it. Only one light worked in the room and the shower consisted of a walk in shower, with a "shower chair" used for disabled people with only a hand held shower head. While the water was on by morning, there was no hot water and the water in the sink was a beige color. When we went to the restaurant to ask for bottled water so we could take our medication and brush our teeth, we were told they had none, but if we could wait they had sent out for some bottles of water. Dark, dingy rooms and you are "on your own" in the event of an emergency...BEWARE, I wish I could give it a minus 1 star rating!

Room Tip: Don't stay in Jayuya, it is a beautiful area, but leave before dark and stay in Ponce. Put this...
