Step back in time and this is how hotels should be !
This old Inn has a lovely bar with a great choice of real ales and wines, with different areas to sit infront of real fires, overlooking views of the area. Warm and friendly staff welcome you, serve you drinks, lovely food and smile a lot with you . This is heaven- especially if you have left your kids with someone else!
We opted for a bottle of red and sat in a room with open fire overlooking the river at the back of the Inn. Time passed slowly - there is no mobile signal , so you dont get disturbed !
In the rooms there is Moulton & Brown toiletries , four poster beds and real fires (in some). Lovely bathroom suites and no plastic milk cartons with instant tea or coffee... no! - you ring the kitchen and they bring a pot of tea or coffee to your room, for no extra charge! In a silver tea or coffee pot, with real milk in a jug!
You can eat in the bar or posh up and go in the a la carte menu restaurant. Its a little more pricey in there, but the service and food are excellent. The fish pie is to die for!
We couldnt fault it - perfect for a "dirty" night away and we will be going back in the Spring or sooner if we can.
Oh, there's also a wineshop to buy your favorite wine from the night before, but no swimming pool or sauna.

Room Tip: All the rooms are amazing - ours - room 20 had a balcony outside over looking the river and a four p...

First of all I'll start by telling you we travel 40 minutes on windy roads to get to this place when we have an abundance of restaurants nearby. Surely that tells you how good it is!

The Inn has fantastic, relaxed but efficient staff. Roaring log fires for winter, a gorgeous seating area by the river for summer. Fantastic food using the abundance of game that is available nearby along with lots of other classics and mouthwatering dishes. We have eaten in both the restaurant and the bar and have never had a negative experience in any aspect out the 7 or 8 times we have been there, both as a couple and with family and friends.

The specials board is always extensive and contains a variety of different dishes. A couple of favourites from the current menu are the Chicken liver pate (you have never tried pate like this!) and the warm fillet steak salad with the Inn's gorgeous chips! I tried grouse here for the first time, it is a speciality dish here, and it is a dish I can definitely recommend trying!

We have visited when there was a wedding on twice now and can safely say this did not intervene or dampen our experience or the quality of the food and service in any way. If you are looking for fantastic high quality food in a relaxed and special environment, then this place is definitely worth a visit!

Very good of you to review us, thank you. Glad you liked your grouse, definitely on my last supper list, toward the end of the season though now, moving into partridge and pheasant. Hope we see you again soon. Regards Cb

We stayed at the inn at whitewell 2 weeks ago and the experience was lovely. We had room 6 which is a suite , it is large, comfortable and toasty warm. When I queried that there was no mirror near a plug so it was difficult to dry my hair a mirror was provided straight away - fabulous service!
The food was wonderful, as always, especially the chicken thighs which are making my mouth water just thinking about them!
We have stayed at this hotel many times and it only gets better!

Room Tip: The rooms at the back of the hotel have wonderful views over the river

Last month our son and his fiancee had their wonderful wedding at the Inn at Whitewell .
It was such a great day and the Inn and it's staff definitely played their part. From the initial visit, through all the planning, tastings, preparations, ceremony, wedding breakfast, evening party, nightcaps by the log fire, bedrooms, breakfasts, walks and beautiful surroundings , everything was perfect.
I know a number of people are already looking forward to visiting again and we would certainly recommend it for a meal, a short break or a wedding.
Thank you again for helping to make it a perfect day!

Stayed with 3 young children, all very welcoming, kids loved it. All staff are comfortable with kids running around, beano put out with the papers! Stayed in rm 10 - great space, comfortable for 5, with the kids bed/area slightly offset from main bedroom. Food was excellent, in season partridge a highlight. Area was beautiful in late October - rivers full, and trees in full gold. Very relaxing, very English, thoroughly recommend if you want time as a family, long walks, good meals, in a stress less environment.

Room Tip: Room 10 doesn't look a winner on the website, but we thought it was great - in the main house, a...

Just had Sunday lunch with friends, got there at 12:15 and grabbed the last table. It's not the first time I have been but its defiantly been the best. The food and service was superb and we all enjoyed the afternoon. Don't be disappointed, get there early.

Stopped in the coach house for an evening in September. Lovely room and a great bathroom (a victorian bathing machine....).
The food in the restaurant was great and service good. Would go back, as a nice overnight stay and good value through the week as opposed to weekends if you can do it....

Room Tip: have a look at their website for room you'd like to try. They're all unique...
