“Rivendell & Rhinos”
Reviewed June 25, 2013

We visited Rivendell along the route of The EXPEDITION Project 2013 and I was really impressed with everything about it. Not only did they have amazing wines (and I'm fussy - but really, the shiraz is fantastic and the Sav Blanc is a perfect, fresh, summer choice) but they also look beyond their core business and do what they can to raise awareness about rhino conservation in South Africa. They do fundraising in various ways and in partnership with other organisations so as to maximise their impacts. And the rhino biscuits with the cappuccino is such a nice touch!

Rivendell's bistro is also fantastic. The views are amazing and the food was perfect. I paired it with that shiraz I mentioned and didn't want to leave... :)

“The EXPEDITION Project visits Rivendell”
Reviewed June 20, 2013

These days it simply isn't enough to support your regular food establishment or restaurant - you need to look for establishments that offer and facilitate a little more. Especially on the social conscious or conservation ethics side if possible. Rivendell delivers this with passion and as part of their core ethos and beliefs. If you have a meal at Rivendell you will be supporting a unique vineyard as well as their "save a rhino' project. Try their wine, chocolates and buy a 'rhino bracelet'. And then the food...well it is simply excellent - professional service, presentation and exceptional menu options.
Highly recommended.

“wine, food, chocolate & wi-fi”
Reviewed May 21, 2013

I love that Rivendell has free wi-fi. This makes for an easy call as to where to have my afternoon coffee on route back to Hermanus. Sipping the crisp Sauvignon Blanc is a perfect pairing for getting some work done.

“Blown away by the service”
Reviewed April 16, 2013

Having only read what previous clients complained about now, I find it hard to believe, unless the establishment has improved overnight.
This is not your normal, ( often snooty ) type of winery restaurant, usually found around Franschoek or Stellenbosh with prices that leave you paying off your c. card for months after.

We did not expect the place to be busy, but they were on a Monday, great welcome by the pet pot belly pig outside, we were seated promptly, and the rest of the service was informative, courteous, efficient and just spot on.
Menu is small but varied choices with added daily specials , something for all.at affordable prices
Food presentation was also top notch, and hit the palate in the right places
Wine menu also small but great variety of all the good local wineries.

I first visited this place almost two years ago, and they had just opened their restaurant , to compliment their winery, alas at the time, with only one wine from their cellars available, Now they have three or four more labels and the improvement is tremendous and I would recommend to the rest of the planet.
Dont be put off by the R43 road infront of the place leading towards Hermanus, as the vines hide the road and you are left with great views of the surrounding hills.
Stylish ,and comfortable decor too ! Go ,go, go. NOW !
