Friedrichskoog,Seehundstation, was formerly located in Dieksanderkoog. A Koog is a town surrounded by dikes where the land has been reclaimed from the ocean. In the Netherlands they are called Polders. It takes about 75-100 years for a Koog to be created. The reclamation is possible because in this part of the world, the difference between the high and low water marks in the 6 hour tide is measured in miles instead of feet as in the US. One of the major attractions is the Wattenmeer, where you can walk into the ocean for miles. The entire area is dotted with wind turbines. Temps are cool to moderate. There are very few US tourists but many German tourists.
