“Cake allure”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2014

There are many teashops to choose from in Grosmont but we chose this one because with a two and a half year old grandson the garden was attractive; and so it proved. Fortunately we enjoyed our between trains lunch too. The pork pies and quiches with salad were all good and the allure of the cakes proved too much to resist. We were not disappointed. All they need now is an espresso machine.

Stopped here on horseback for well deserved refreshments as was a very hot day. Very friendly service. Staff came out to see our ponies and see us on our way. We will return. Thank you

“Disappointing”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 23, 2014

Started the day with gorgeous weather and said to my husband, "let's go to Grosmont to that lovely tea room and have lunch". Great drive out and when we got there, we were presently surprised how quiet it was. Off we trots to the tea room only to be greeted by a woman behind the counter who looked like she had swallowed a bag of wasps. No hello, can I help you, what would you like....more of a grunt and several sighs. I would like to say to that woman, I never asked you to work Sundays and that was the worst £17.00 I have ever spent in my life, I had quiche and salad, well should I say, "a small piece of quiche with tomatoes, lettuce and beetroot". My husband had the smallest milk shake in the universe, it was presented in a ice cream dish. Let down is an understatement, I will never go there again.

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. We have spoken to the member of staff involved and the situation has been dealt with.
Our Quiche salad is a great favourite with our customers and comprises; lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, peppers, homemade coleslaw, beetroot, red onion, pickled onion and pickle.
Our milkshakes are served in tall sundae glasses which hold a standard 6 fluid oz.

“Handy for the Station”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 8, 2014

Had lunch there during a day out on the North York Moors Railway.
I thought the food was fine - I had the quiche, Dad and Donna had toasties, and Mum had a Baked Potato. Our plates were empty afterwards, so that's always a good sign!
Did not try the cakes but they did look tempting.
Sadly the weather stopped us sitting outside.
Tip - if possible, try and time your visit for when the train is about to leave - it will be a bit quieter until the next train arrives!!
Also please note the toilets are outside and down a flight of steps, so may be a problem for the less mobile.

Glad you enjoyed your visit. There are steps to the outside toilets but if people have problems with mobility they can walk through our garden to the toilets thus avoiding the steps. Just ask at the counter and someone will help you through the garden

“Laughable”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 21, 2014

Had dinner with the Wife and kids, two of us had Tomato soup and roll, roll was microwaved and hard as a brick, soup was I think a watered down tin of value tomatoes with mixed herbs but nothing else, service dreadful, cheap tea, pork pie with more gristle than meat, other than that we at least left laughing.

We are sorry that you did not enjoy your visit and you thought our ingredients cheap.
Our ingredients are of the highest quality and we source locally where possible. Our tea is Yorkshire tea from Taylors of Harrogate, our pork pies and ham are from RH Ford and Sons, Glaisdale, a high class local butcher, and our fruit and vegetable are from Masons of Whitby Ltd.
Our tomato soup is a long tried and tested recipe that has proved a firm favourite with our customers over the years.
If people are not happy with our service we hope that they can mention it at the time so we can try to make amends.
