“Enjoyed the food, loved the beer”

The vegetable lasagne here was very good, promptly delivered with plenty of flavour and lots of cheese Excellent home made onion rings ordered as a side. such a substantial portion of well cooked main course meant there was no room for a desert- other than an additional pint of well kept Cameron's Strongarm.
This is a proper pub with a good mix of locals and visitors, plus friendly bar staff and I enjoyed the atmosphere... and in the day time you can sit outside and watch the steam trains trundling up and down.

“Great location, ok interior but poor food quality”
Reviewed August 26, 2012

Stopped off here for some food after a day out on the NYMR. As there was was not a great deal of choice for food in the area at 6:30pm we had little choice on what to do for food.

Good location for the NYMR, right next to the level crossing at Grosmont and not to bad inside. Staff seemed decent enough. Food however was all micrrowave food. Noting was fresh apart from the salad side. For £25.00 meal, not to impressed.

“Short-sighted management / ownership”
Reviewed August 19, 2012

Truly appalling experience. Incredibly understaffed - one poor lady apparently running the place by herself. 10 minute wait before she even appeared behind the bar whereupon she did her best to serve 3 customers simultaneously. Food when it arrived was easily the worst on the entire c2c walk: dry chips, dry pie, over-cooked vegetables. Effortlessly took English cuisine back several decades. What's the point of penny-pinching like this? None of our party will ever return and the over-worked staff will find somewhere better to work. In fairness to the cook, he may have been the character leaning tiredly on the bar at 8pm, having been on duty since 7AM. Well done owners: great management.

“GOOD FOOD - GOOD BEER!!”
Reviewed August 15, 2012

During a visit to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, my wife and I decided to have lunch at the Station Tavern at Grosmont - a very short stone's throw from the station! Slightly disappointed that a "Sunday Roast" was not on the menu, but what there was was a good choice. My wife had the Salmon fishcakes (which were very nice, she assured me) and I chose the Homemade Lasagne. Both were served with hand-cut chips which were excellent ! The lasagne was very good. As the food was freshly cooked, we did not mind the wait too much, but were conscious of the time as we had planned to catch a train up to Goathland (TV's "Aidensfield). Others in the pub were getting edgy whilst waiting for their food.... possibly a little too long perhaps. However, the food was definitely worth waiting for. In addition, the Cameron's "Strongarm" (Real Ale) was in top form and made the wait very pleasant. This establishment is highly recommended.

“good pub grub”
Reviewed August 8, 2012

love the atmosphere of this pub, went just at the end of the 2011 summer tourist season so there were just regulars and a few avid trainspotters. lots of old railway based photography/paintings on the walls as expected. food was good pub fayre (tasty gammon) and god value.
