I enjoyed my stay at the Paradise bungalow and contained some nice assets:
the bungalows are basic, BUT with a very comfy hammok on the Mekong river, for the price you pay you shoulden't expect more.
The food is very delicious, cooked by the host family.
You have the host family, which is ver welcoming and has two super cute daughters and then there are Leance and Donna who are also very caring dor the guest. They made a very informative book about Don Det and all other informations you need on the island.

While on the bus from Pakse we bumped into Lance & Donna, two longterm residents of Paradise, who led us to these cosy bungalows which sit on stilts right above the river.

The bungalows are tiny and very sparsely furnished (just a bed and a fan) with individual balconies and 2 hammocks each. On Don Det you are unlikely to need much else! Shared toilet & shower are on the other side of "the road" (gravel path). Paradise is about a 10 minute walk from the busier end of the island which has bars and shops. If you're coming by boat you can ask them to drop you at the other port which is much closer and avoids the long walk with your backpack...

The family are very warm, Mama's soup is fantastic, and Lance & Donna are a great source of information about the island.

We were lucky to have a lot in common with other guests who arrived at the same time, so it was a very cosy place to stay a few extra days in good company. Cheap too!

We stayed 3 nights on the island. The stay at "Paradise" Bungalows was great. Riverfront Bungalow, Moskito-net, hammock. Super Laundry Service. Very fair Room Price.
Best pancakes we ate in whole SEA,

I'd heard of the wonder of Don Det from friends so came prepared to stay at least 5 nights. It ended up being 17 nights instead and that had a lot to do with Paradise. I stumbled across it by accident but had to wait two nights before a room came vacant. I see there are various mixed reviews but what I found was Paradise is a great place to be if you enjoy being part of a small community, those who had negative experiences perhaps should look at their own interpersonal skills. Lance and Donna were incredibly helpful, informative and kind in my opinion, hey they were my neighbours for 15 nights! They told me of places to visit, eat and I enjoyed having a beer in the afternoon listening to Lance play the guitar and didn't find them to be anything other than very welcoming genuine people, they don't run the place but they sure help it run smoothly.

The Laos family were wonderful as well and the food is really good quality, it did feel like being part of a little community (I was fortunate to have other like minded travelers staying in the other bungalows). The toilets and shower (painted by Lance and Donna) are the best on the island and probably all of Laos! The wifi is pretty non existent but you come to Don Det to escape so if you cant do without perhaps head to Vang Vieng or some other such place as maybe it's not the place for you.

As I said I stayed right up until my Visa made me go, for 30,000 kip for a chilled out bungalow over the river it really was Paradise. It's a pleasant kilometer walk to the main part where many bars and restaurants are and also a bit further on to the Sunset side. Paradise is on the quieter side of the island so if you just want to party maybe not the best but if you want a relaxing time (and the odd wild night and you dont mind a walk) then Paradise is paradise on ...er...paradise!

I initially went to Don Det planning to stay a day or 2, 6 nights later i was sad to be leaving. The rooms are basic, i had a dog in mine, came back to get something and the mangey mutt strolls out. Loved having a hammock outside my door right above the Mekong, blissful. Having to trek to the bathroom in the midnight hours can be a little challenging but id definitely go back for 20,000 a night (low season) don't be afraid to ring the bell for service/food!!

Donna, Lance, Dam & their families made us feel very welcome. We stayed 3 nights, most of the time we were practicing our "exercises", page turning, curling etc. 30ooo a night for a double with a fan, mozzie net, double bed & 2 hammocks. 5-10min walk to the north of the island restaurants etc. Book exchange plus an exciting menu with fun stories inside.

Food was Ok, Donna and Lance had some great stories to share, gorgeous children running around. Great location. Bathrooms were very decorative. Wifi is very patchy (but honestly who comes to don det for wifi?)

Very pleasant stay. Thanks for having us xx
