We did not expect such a nice long boat trip inside the caves!! Actually, I have seen better caves in Austria, however we had the chance to travel in a boat with our small dog!

This is a good place to visit lots to see but you must be fit and able as some areas are steep and there are lots of steps. Boat trip is a bit fraught as the roof is very near your head. No hard hats (health and safety not a priority here) Guides very good and very helpful. No souvenirs available and cafe adjacent found it difficult to cope with large group (barman not pleased to see us) Well worth a visit as caves are very interesting.

Our family decided to take a day trip over to the Liege area and do some fun things with the kids. This attraction made the cut, and was the first thing we did. We've never explored a cave, so I thought this would be fun for my family (2 kids aged 7 and 4.)

These caves have been open for touring for over 150+ years. And they have a boat tour as part of the tour and it's the longest underground waterway in Europe. The first part of the tour is by foot, and the you finish by boat. We had a great time - it takes over an hour, which is long enough, but not too long.

The guides were very friendly and accommodating to us (we were the only ppl in our tour group who needed an English translation.) He made sure that he knew where we were all the time, and gave us our translation separately from the others. He was friendly with us, and had a genuinely friendly attitude.

The only negatives I can add are that we do feel that his English was only moderate. We did have a difficult time understanding him, and we're fairly certain we missed out on quite a bit of historical data and info. We ARE living in a foreign land, so we cannot be too disappointed, but it IS a bit of a negative. The other negative is that he asked for tips multiple times - always a turnoff for me.

I would recommend this tour to others.

Nice about these caves is that they have been open for the public since 1828, which you can see by looking at the great cast iron stairs. Also great is the boat ride on the underground river, the longest underground boatride in Europe.

Maybe we have been spoiled since we have visited a lot of caves in Europe, but... didn't hear a lot of 'new' information. Since we were with a large group, communication was lacking, it was too noisy.
Still: one of natures wonders and well worth a visit, especially if you're into caves.
