“A Dream Spot in Northern Italy”
Reviewed July 10, 2012

I stayed at the Hotel Sassella recently on a week-long business trip. The rooms aren't fancy, but they are comfortable and roomy -- and you are treated like you're staying in a 5 star hotel. The hotel is set in the middle of a Northern Italian town that dates back to the 12th century. The bell tower of the "new" church, built in 1677 was just outside my room, and the bells woke me each morning. It was like being in heaven. The hotel is run by a family, and they do everything they can to make your stay a pleasure. Even though the hotel is small (I think only 16 rooms) they have a modern spa on the 4th floor, equiped with two dry saunas, a great Turkish sauna, a whirlpool and multiple foot whirlpools. The "gym" has only a few pieces of workout equipment, but they are in good repair and the view of the mountains from the window is spectacular. But most of all, the food at dinner is amazing. The food is truly gourmet, with a great wine selection and a number of excellent grappas to choose from. The host "Jim" makes sure that everyone is satisfied. We ate in the hotel 5 out of six nights -- why go anywhere else? I had a free day before my next business obligation and the staff arranged a bicyle for me so that I could ride to the nearby town of Tirano. Within a 20 minute drive are two ancient Roman baths that have been turned into luxurious spas. I'd go back here in a heartbeat. This is a great way to get to know what Italy is really like -- far away from the tourist crowds.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony room in the front. The view is lovely, but you'll be awakened by the church...

We visited as part of a Supercar Tour with friends, from the moment we arrived to the moment we left we were made to feel like family guests. The Family Owners and staff could not have made our stay more welcoming, comfortable and simply splendid.

The room was simply lovely with the most superb views, the meal at night just divine, local specialities served with passion and so tasty.

As we were 6 rather nice cars, the Family even organised suspension of car parking spaces to ensure the cars were secure right outside the hotel and when I asked if I could wash my car, they were happy to provide a hosepipe, etc etc. A brilliant experience and one we will be repeating.

That is not to mentionthe value for money, up there with some other more renowned establishments we visited this year but literally 25% of the price of some. Truly excellent in every way.

Room Tip: Ask for the rooms at the top of the hotel.

Service was excellent.
Interesting variety and choices at the Ristorante.
I had a room with an unbelievable view of the town, & clock tower, framed by the snow-capped Italian Alps.
Spa in the hotel, but didn't have time to check it out.

My partner and I stayed at this hotel recently for four nights. It is the best hotel I have ever stayed in and was very sad to leave. The hotel is owned and run by a family and has been in that family for five generations. This clearly shows in the level of service which we received. All of the staff, without exception, were very friendly and only too keen to help whenever the need arose. They were both kind and professional and I consider they set the standard hwich other hotels would be wise to follow.

The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The fitness centre is immaculate and secure storage for bicycles in their large garage is always available - free. The food in the restaurant was superb! This is a high class restaurant with low prices and is the most tasteful food I have eaten in my four trips to Italy. This is a GREAT hotel! Enjoy.
