Relais Poggio del Melograno
Reviewed April 4, 2014

Our stay at the Relais was everything that we imagined and more. The scenery was spectacular, the accomodations fantastic and Paola was the most friendly and helpful host. Only a few minutes from the beautiful hill top village of Montecatini Val di Cecina, nestled among the local vineyards, the beautiful old farmhouse offered a wonderful selection of apartments that were very well equipped. In particular, we enjoyed the special Tuscan dinners presented by fabulous local chef Miranda, most of which came from her own garden.
Highly recommend the Relais to anyone wanting to experience the real Tuscany.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Biancospino apartment that was very comfortable for 2 couples

The relais is just beautiful. Suroundings, nature, rooms, Paola... everything is perfect. The rooms are beautiful and spacious, there is also possibility of using common room with fire place, pool, playground for children... There are no neighbours, that could bother you or could be bothered :) Love it!

This 200-year-old country house is managed by Paola in a very friendly way. It was no problem getting into our apartment (Il ciclamino) early. We could even park our car on-site, as there were no other guests. Yes, it is five kms from the nearest village, but you can hear the cuckoos sing and see the tiny lizards on your doorstep. The apartment was spotlessly clean upon arrival and everything was explained to us with great care in fine English. We just loved our holiday here.

We stayed in a small well furnished 1 bedroom apartment. The apartments have been cleverly arranged so that the outside area of each is as private as possible. The garden is beautiful and very well cared for and the pool was clean with incredible views. It is situated about 5minutes off a very quiet road so is very peaceful. The hosts are very friendly with a lovely young family and make every effort to offer advice and help where possible. The local village has a couple of shops and a bank which where all useful. There is also a restaurant which we didnt try. There are several other places to eat within 15mins drive. During the days we drove out to Florence and sienna, both of which can be reached in 1.5 hours (just make sure you've worked out where to park the other end, they will help advise with this). The villa itself is about an hour away from Pisa airport (possibly just over). If I had to be critical I'd say the beds weren't as comfortable as the could be but they are perfectly acceptable in my view.

All in all I would thoroughly recommend this to anyone wanting a relaxing base from which to explore local towns.

We stayed in an extremely beautifully restored farmhouse. Our apartment was furnished with typical furniture and was very neat. The kitchen was new and had all necessary equipment as micro wave oven, dishwasher, large fridge etc... The garden was very cosy and every outside table had a splendid view on the valley. The large swimming pool was very clean and there were sufficient sunbeds along the pool. Paola and Mauro were the perfect guests and were always very friendly and helpful. Access to the relais is by a 5 minute drive off-road but that was not a problem. Montecatini val di Cecina is centrally located for visiting the region. We are very happy having chosen the relais and hope sometime to go back. We can only recommend it warmly !!

We had a marvelous time in the appartment lovely view, nice surroundings, we heard the crickets in the evening, the swimming pool ws warm and reaxing, the house as some local wines, pasta, olive oil and tomato sauce for sell for your first meal. It is very isolated, so you have to take this into account when you want to go shopping or visiting. The road via the coast is better than via Volterra. We enjoyed every moment ! ! !

We loved it ! Great place for children..so safe and the pool was great - lovely and clean. The views were fabulous, so great we stayed in and BBQd most nights..just sitting and soaking up the beautiful Tuscan countryside. Apartment was lovely and spacious and the owners have added lots of touches to make it feel like home vs you're just there for a week ! Very welcoming.
The only downside - if we had to find one that it really is in the middle of nowhere (but this really is a plus too) so expect lots of driving if you want to visit places - Pisa, Chianti villages, Florence etc
