“Not what we expected”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2011

We use a lot of ACCOR hotels while travelling through europe, we usually get to IBIS and most of them are in an average, we decided to try this all seasons chain because it looked good, but we got dissapointed with this one, it was kind of old and poorly renovated with dump walls, the room was old and poorly maintained and the windows didn't isolate as usually in other ACCOR hotels, also the area wasn't very good and the breakfast either. Maybe it was because it was in Geneve surroundings and we might try another all seasons some other time to compare.

Lovely hotel, nice staff, the guy on the front desk was really helpful and put us to shame with his perfect English. Really liked the free tea and coffee in reception. The rooms were clean and spacious, we had a great view. The access to Geneva was brilliant, just 20 mins up the road by car. Only negative was that at breakfast time we hit the rush hour, it was busy and the staff seemed rather stressed out, not keeping up with demand for food and replenishing food and cutlery quickly enough. Other than that, it was a pleasant stop-over.

My mother and arrived and were given a room on the ground floor. This was a handicapped room and we were told that we had the last room in the hotel for two persons. It was roomy, but fairly loud. However the loudness was mainly due to the large group of students there on a field trip from Poland. The noise died down at an acceptable time.

We had free WiFi and got excellent recommendations for where to eat that night and were treated very politely by all the staff we encountered.

The included breakfast was downstairs, and busy (due to the students), but overall a very good experience. The food was plentiful and there was a fairly good variety of breads, spreads, cereals and fresh fruit the morning we were there. I may have my review slightly influenced by the fact that this was the first hotel I got to use an automated espresso maker.

We stayed here after a long drive and were overall pleased. The noise that affects our overall rating is probably not a nightly occurrence and I would not hesitate to stay here again.

OK - so it's cheaper than Geneva hotels but Ambilly & Annemasse are fairly run-down border towns with little charm, an erratic bus service and this hotel is quite a walk from the Swiss border despite what the hotel and other reviews might say.

The lobby is pleasant enough - lots of bright modern furniture - but the rooms are really, really badly maintained. The first one we were shown to had a large hole above the bed where someone had stolen some wall art and vile marks on the drab, brown walls which looked as if someone had repeatedly spat all over then - disgusting. We were shown a second room which had huge damp patches on the wall. Whilst he third room we were offered was passable, the paper thin walls meant we were kept awake until late by a party of noisy Polish schoolchildren staying in adjacent rooms.

The inclusive breakfast wasn't bad - but served in windowless cellar room which was starkly lit and had all the ambience of a remand centre.

I managed to secure a 50% discount on the room rate for all my troubles - but this was still too expensive for this dump of a hotel. Never again.

Room Tip: Take your own cleaning stuff or try another hotel!

Affordable hotel on the way down to southern France for one night. The family arrangement for 2+2 turned out to be a queen plus a folded chair plus a folded mattress on a couch table ... and our reservation had been overlooked so nothing had been prepared when we arrived at midnight. With the very helpful night porter we went to the basement to grab blankets and bedcovers and prepared them ourselves, a bit like in a youth hostel. But the breakfast was okay and a good start after a short night. For the four of us definitely the best choice, rather than having two rooms elsewhere. Roooms for four are hard to get in the area ...
