“Loire Valley Uncorked - Fantastic First Time Experience”
Reviewed July 21, 2013

The service provided from the beginning to end by Loire Valley Uncorked was exceptional. The communication and experience of planning and taking our tour with Loire Valley Uncorked, was truly one of the highlights of our trip to France.

Loire Valley Uncorked can only be given the highest marks for an outstanding tour and specialized customer care. Gerald gave us a one day tour of two small vintners; a truly wonderful and impressive experience. He is extremely knowledgeable of the entire wine making process and has a warm, open and fun personality. Coming from California we were accustomed to great wine tasting but Gerald truly gave us an exceptional tasting of the Loire Valley wines. Sara-Jane, Gerald’s wife, was more than accommodating in meeting our needs. Her attention to detail and personality are to be admired and greatly appreciated. Having no familiarity with transportation in France, Sarah Jane quickly addressed our needs by providing traveling tips and more importantly, the train itinerary and train stations names to make our trip to and from the Loire Valley easy and seamless. Our party consisted of 4 adult friends travelling from Paris. As agreed, Gerald was waiting for us at the train station at 9:30 a.m. (9h30). Our trip started with an overview of the Loire Valley wines. At the first winery we tasted an extensive sampling of special whites, reds and sparkling wines. We enjoyed the experience at this winery immensely, especially the relationship between Gerald and the Vintner. We then had a delicious meal and more wine at Bistrot Les Tontons. Sarah Jane coordinated with us in advance to plan a lunch menu for our enjoyment. The winery in the afternoon was enjoyable and very memorable with a visit to the limestone caves where the wines are stored. We had an extensive sampling of earthy red wines which had depth and were full bodied. We ended the afternoon tour with a treat to all of us from Gerald and Sarah Jane since they knew we were all celebrating “significant” birthdays. Our day ended when we were taken to the Saumur train station for our trip back to Paris around 4:30 p.m. (16h30).

Gerald and Sarah Jane were extremely responsive to our needs. They have a keen sense for attention to detail and they took the time to deliver a tour which provided us with a remarkable experience and an unforgettable part of our trip to France. The tour with Loire Valley Uncorked gave us an appreciation of the amazing Val de Loire wines and made this tour one which is greatly recommended for beginning or knowledgeable wine enthusiasts.

“informative tour.”
Reviewed July 14, 2013

A lovely time spent with Gerald and blackberry (the dog) as we learnt about the making of wine from vine to bottle. The morning moved along at a relaxed and leisurely pace, with Gerald explaining all aspects in an easy to understand fashion. Both the novice and the seasoned wine lover would appreciate his expertise. After the tour of the vineyard and the caves, it was on to the sampling of some very nice wines in our opinion. We tasted a wide range of wines from reds though rose to whites and sparkling. We loved them all, and came away with a greater appreciation of what makes a good wine.
My tip is to do this tour at the beginning of a visit to the Loire so you have time to sample as many of these lovely wines as you can.
A thoroughly enjoyable wine tour and tasting.

“Loire Valley Uncorked - Outstanding!”
Reviewed July 13, 2013

Very interesting and informative...Gerald, who treats his vines like members of the family, provided a very clear description of the entire wine making process. We loved his sense of humor and his politics! Of course the opportunity to sample 15 of the vineyard's varieties did not detract from the event. Highly recommended.

This wine tour gave an excellent introduction to understanding wine from vine to bottle. Gerald's knowledge is excellent and his passion shines through. He is genuinely interested in you learning more about a good wine. I even know how to check the quality of bubbles. I would recommend this trip to new and seasoned wine drinkers.

“A Fantastic Trip to Loire Valley!!”
Reviewed June 23, 2013

While traveling to Paris in May 2013 with some friends we decided on visiting the Loire Valley for a day of wine tasting outside of the city. After researching the internet and Trip Advisor for recommendations on wine country tours, we discovered a hidden gem called Loire Valley Uncorked.

If you are looking for a true, rustic French countryside wine tasting experience, that is far from the touristy scene, look no further then Loire Valley Uncorked.

From the moment we contacted Sarah Jane, they went completely out of their way to help make our trip out of Paris an easy, effortless and a memorable experience to Lorie Valley. Gerald, her husband and co-owner of Loire Valley Uncorked, met us at the train station with a comfortable car and drove us to visit two chateaus, to lunch and to the Saumur train station for our trip back to Paris.

We visited two outstanding Chateaus with a full day of tasting a wide range of red, white, sparkling and rosé wines. We easily tasted over 25 different wines.

After visiting our first chateau, Gerald drove us through the French country side for a scrumptious lunch, at Bistrot Les Tontons. A truly remarkable and typical local French bistro.

After lunch our group experience a divine afternoon of Cabernet Franc tasting.

Gerald then whisked us away in plenty of time to ensure we met our train back into Paris.

Gerald is very personable, easy going, humorous and a wonderful story teller. His easy style and approach to wine helped to make the complexities of wine (especially French) easy to understand and to remember.

Sarah-Jane, his wife, is warm and bubbly. The two of them make an excellent team. Their passion for wine , food and hospitality is overflowing. Her attention to detail from suggestions on how to make arrangements from Paris to adjusting the menu at Bistrot Les Tontons several times time to accommodate our tastes and food allergies.

Sarah Jane and Gerald made our trip to Loire Valley one of the highlights of our trip to France.
