“Staff passion makes this a great hotel to stay over at.”
Reviewed August 24, 2013

We were very well treated. The duty manager has worked hard to differentiate this hotel from others.

Some excellent (and sometimes) unusual wines were on offer as well as a diverse choice of whiskeys.

If you find yourself at a loose end in lille, you would be hard pushed to find better hospitality, a good selection of wines and a very knowledgeable (helpful and passionate) duty manager.

This was a quick Bank Holiday weekend break with two friends in Lille, France. We booked in at this hotel after discovering the Comfort Hotel we had booked via the internet on booking.com was not the hotel we thought it was. It was too far away from the centre and we thought we had booked one much nearer because one of our party can't walk too far. Whether this was ours or booking.com's fault I don't know but we managed to get the booking cancelled and found two more rooms at this hotel. The rooms were fine and we went out to see the town of Lille via the bus to the metro station about 1km away. On our return at around 9.30pm to the metro station we lost our bearings and only found our way back to the hotel when a kindly couple drove us back to the hotel in two trips.
My wife and her friend went first and got to the hotel at 10.20pm but the night man refused to serve them a drink saying the bar shut at 10.30pm. When we arrived 10 minutes later he flatly refused to open the bar despite the very helpful man on reception during the day telling us the bar would be open till 11pm. This happened again on the second night when the night man shut the bar dead on 10.30pm again. Generally speaking hotel bars can stay open as long as they want so why he was being a jobsworth was beyond us. His couldn't care less attitude and distinctly unfriendly behaviour and attitude were exactly the opposite of the rest of the staff who were clearly embarrassed by their colleague's bloody-mindedness. So much so they discounted our room rate by 10 per cent and reduced the price of the breakfasts. The day reception chaps were very good, very friendly and efficient - just what good hotel staff should be. We think that the Comfort Hotel management should reward them for their professionalism and friendliness as nothing was too much for them. Sadly the same can't be said about the night man who frankly shouldn't be working there as he is really not cut out for the hospitality industry.
Anyway that said this hotel is clean, well priced and is near the bus and metro stations. Four stops and you are in the heart of the lovely city. We enjoyed our continental breakfasts and free parking.
So we would recommend this hotel to business travellers and tourists alike. Just don't expect to get a drink after 10.30pm - although we sincerely hope this man won't be in posiition much longer to impose his views on guests. We have marked down the service purely and solely because of him - the rest of the staff, who you will probably encounter the most, are fantastic.

Room Tip: If you want a drink get back to the hotel well before 10.30pm.

Me and my husband stayed here a few weeks ago we had a great time during our stay!
The first night Edouard at the front desk gave us a lots of great information about city even draw a map for us where to go! Also he kindly offered us a pair of wine tasting conference tickets, it means a lot to us, and we went to the conference next day it was brilliant!
On way back to the uk my husband find out that he forgot his mobile phone in the hotel room but it was too late to go back for it! We quickly got to phone box and called the hotel yes they got the phone And the offer to post back, few days later we got are phone back ! It was amazing experience with the hotel comfort we will definitely stay here again!
Thanks!!

I stayed in October 2012 for a WW1 Battlefields Tour organised by Newmarket Holidays. The hotel itself was very good for breakfast and the evening bar, and my room was clean and comfortable. The reason for my low rating is the absence of weekend dinner facilities. This is hotel policy: it does not change even when 40 guests would happily have dinner there on both Saturday and Sunday night! Eating anywhere else is difficult, time consuming, and most unwelcome after being out all day without even a chance to freshen up beforehand.

We were booked on a 4 Day trip to visit the WW1 Battlefields (Newmarket Group) in June 2012. Unfortunately on arrival we were informed that the restaurant was closed during our stay and so we were forced to to a 25 minute walk to a station and then navigate the Metro to get into Lille to find somewhere to eat. Luckily for the rest of our trip our Tour Guide arranged somewhere for us to eat each night. Regarding our Hotel, this had certainly seen better days and clearly needed some money spent on it. The carpets, bed, bed linen and towels all needed replacing. None of the bed linen or towels were white, they were a dirty grey colour.
In fairness the shower and sink were clean and the water was hot.
Probably the worse point was over breakfast. The breakfast was very poor and we were constantly having to go to start to ask them for items that should have been provided. It took 2 days before we had proper dessert spoons for eating cereals and the first morning we had 50 people using tea spoons to eat their corn flakes. On the second day we ran out of Milk and it was only after the intervention of the Tour Guide that the milk was sourced.
In the evenings after returning to the Hotel, trying to get them to open the Bar was something of a joke and it just appeared that us guests were not appreciated or even wanted.
I certainly would never see me or my friends returning to this Hotel.

Room Tip: Use another Hotel, preferably in the centre of Lille.

We stayed here for three nights on an organised tour of the battlefields of Belgium and N. France and found it to be far better than the previous reviewer led us to understand. It was certainly inconvenient that the restaurant was closed during the weekend (even though our party of 50 were booked in) and we had to walk a mile to the nearest Metro station in order to get a meal in Lille. There were plenty of excellent restaurants in the centre of this most attractive city. However they did open the bar for our party in the evenings and the staff were very friendly. Our room was small but spotless and breakfast in the restaurant was excellent. Clearly the hotel caters primarily for commercial travellers and those passing on the motorway rather than holiday makers and it should be seen in that light.. Not 5 star but value for money.

Stayed 3 nights on a Newmarket ww1 battlefields tour. Hotel in middle of an industrial area with no facilities for food in the hotel or the surrounding area. Had a 25 min walk to metro then a train ride to town to get a meal. The room was grim, dingy and dirty. Shower tray black and mouldy and the carpet so stained and dirty we could not walk on it in bare feet. The furniture was dated with not even a drawer to put things in, had to live out of suitcase. The breakfast buffet was not available to our group, we were ushered into a side room where long tables were set with a lump of bread and a mini pastry at each setting. There was not enough juice milk or cereal for 40 people and was replenished very grudgingly by surly staff. Egg spoons were provided to eat the cereal. The second morning was worse with the one jug of milk quickly running out and the staff informing us there was no more. the tour guide insisted some one go to a shop to buy some. Not even any self respecting back packer would want to stay here let alone more mature travellers. We renamed it 'Discomfort Hotel' instead of 'Comfort Hotel' Avoid at all costs!!!!!
