We spent two nights there and we truly enjoyed it. A great and quiet location (what a view from there!), isolated yet close enough to the lovely town of Marciac. The owners were very nice and helpful and the food they served was excellent! A good place to chill and relax but also to enjoy the French countryside. I highly recommend the relais du Bastidou!

We don't sadly agree with Bibsley, we live near Beaumarches permanently and we have been visiting this restaurant for many years on and off. The menu has hardly changed. It is beautifully cooked and presented and not a bad price but it would be so nice to get something new there. We have just been again and blow me just the same again. The ambience is lovely and they are a very nice couple who run it. I would not recommend more than 3 visits as that is the usual choice on the menu and you are stuffed if you don't like one of them. However, we had a large event this year and several of our visitors stayed there, they all commented that it was a lovely place and that the service and the rooms were comfortable and clean. For a chance stay, it is a lovely place.

This is the closest restaurant to our summer home. It's run by a hard-working and charming couple, who serve a blend of a refined take on local favorites (excellent foie gras, confit de canard, crustade) with a broader menu. They run a tight ship, yet still manage to surprise us with the variations upon their fixed menus, after several years of regular visits.

I will start with the positives about Le Relais du Bastidou
- an amazing location in the rolling hills of the Gers which is very peaceful
- nice pool area for spending the day outside
- friendly and playful dog
- traditionally decorated cosy rooms

Sadly these positive points were outweighed by the following negatives:
- our late arrival was met with a locked down hotel and there was no answer to us ringing the bell, in fact the bell didn't work! Our phone calls were ignored and the dog's barking also mustered no movement. All told we were forced to spend the night sleeping in the car.
- When the owner awoke he saw us in the car park and ignored us before sending his wife out to deal with us, she apologised and let us into our room quickly.
- On departure our request to have the cost of the first night waived was greeted with insults by the owner who instead of talking to us like adults started shouting at us and denied that we had called, we had rang the bell or even that the dog barked! We asked him if he was telling us that we were liars and he confirmed that he thought that we were lying!! After insulting us he ran back to the kitchen and left us to demonstrate to his wife that the bell didn't work -
this goes beyond bad service and into just plain bad behaviour.
Although we had indicated the latest possible arrival time on their website (11pm) we had not called after our plane was delayed one hour. Due to this fact, we agreed to pay half the room rate as neither party was completely wrong. We were happy enough with this but his response and insults were not called for.
- the breakfast was overpriced and the owner cleared all the tables and started banging around at 10am on the dot
- a lot of shouting was going on in the kitchen
- although the rooms are nicely decorated they are a little small for the price

It's a real shame about the attitude of the owner as he has a beautiful place.

The hotel is at the end of a road at the bottom of a quiet secluded valley. We stayed there twice - two nights each time. First we were in a mezanine room with steep stairs up to the bedroom, which was not really suitable for older travellers. However this was due to a misunderstanding and the second time we were in a much more suitable and comfortable family room with en suite facilities - and a view of the distant Pyrenees through the window.
Service and food provided by the hard-working Fabienne and Rene were both excellent.
The sheltered swimming pool was a big plus point. Highly recommended.

Le Bastidou is found at the very heart of the rolling Gers countryside. The friendly half-Border Collie/half-Husky dog greets you. The herd of, literally, black Gascon pigs are the only neighbours.
My mezanine room was lovely decorated: wood, stone and bright colours dominate.
The restaurant room is in similar style. My dinner was very good, in particular the 'entree': Escalope de Foie Gras poelee aux Langoustines. Lengthy choice of regional wines, and a decent continental breakfast.
Friendly and correct service.
