Had 10 days at the Moevenpick in Phuket and I can't rave enough about how awesome it was.
Stunning place, great service, fantastic pools, food was amazing, room was perfect!
( Had a deluxe Garden Villa )
Took our 8 year old daughter with us and she loved the kid's club!
1 minute walk to the beach from our room.
Booked 2 tours through the hotel tour desk and they were well organised and very helpful.
Had a spa treatment which was lovely but did find it much cheaper down the road.
The best thing though was definately the friendliness of the staff and how helpful they were.
Karon Beach is a great area if you don't want to be in the heart of Phuket but is only a 5 minute Tuk Tuk ride to Patong. Still lot's to do there though.
Thouroughly recomend for familie's!!!!

Highly recomend this place for familie's.

Firstly we went in the rainy season so some instances of our situation would probably not occur elsewhere.

We were booked into 2 Ocean View Deluxe rooms and despite many confirmations for a Double and a twin with adjoining doors the rooms were not available. We were given what we booked but without interconnection, but no great problem.

We were not escorted to the rooms and on our arrival at them we were very disappointed at their size and quality. They were extrmely hot as no Air con had been put on in advance etc.

We put up with it until one day when all the water in the rooms came out dark Orange. We were eventually advised that this was a problem in the main building that would be resolved by 13.00. So we waited around (no showers so didnt feel like going far).

At 13.00 we enquired with the Duty Manager at reception whether the problem was likely to be solved soon and she was unaware of any problem. Great!

Eventually we were told to give it till 18.00 to see if the water could become usable.

Instead I got them to agree to move us and they found 2 adjoining Garden Villas.

Although it was a pain packing everything again the rooms were certainly an improvement. Very nice, and the only reason that we didnt book them in first place was comments on Trip Advisor on mosquitos.

Anyhow all ok except that it statred to rain again and lo and behold the electric goes off; no air con and worse no water as pumps are electric.

During the day at this time the restaurants were closed with the exception of the bar and pool snacks so when you see the options for all day dining, they dont mean off season.

So finally after 10 days we leave. 45 minute check out. Then my chauffer car is stopped at security and we are asked to return to reception.

Here I am asked to pay 80 Bhat for a can of pop that they think is taken from a Mini Bar. As we didnt drink it we didnt pay and were allowed to leave.

Sorry but more Falty Towers than 5 Stars

It is strange that my experience at the hotel is usually at odds with other Tripadvisor.com reviewers'. Movenpick is one of the many old Thai hotels that have been taken over by foreign management so it has a glossy surface but lacklustre insides. The grounds are truly beautiful, from the planation to the pools, to the passages that link one part of the hotel to the other. The breakfast is very average by Asian resort standards and the place gets a bit rowdy and crowded to the increasing presence of children. The rooms are old, tired and have seen their better days - especially the bathrooms. No attention is paid to the common areas inside the building and the air cond is not strong enough to combat the unrelenting Thai heat. If you are a business traveller used to 5-star haunts around the region, you won't be impressed with this 5 star, I can assure you. 3.5 out of 5, not a star more.

Having just flown from the crazy hustle and bustle of Bangkok this hotel took my breath away. It was fantastic, staff so very friendly, food was gorgeous and plenty of variety and so the ambiance so relaxing. You could get lost in the various games rooms with snooker tables and table tennis, the internet rooms or the shops or the many gorgeous restaurants. The hotel is huge, we had a plunge pool room which was absolutely amazing.

The hotel is on Karon beach which although was nice it is quite quiet. However, if you wanted to go to a more lively resort, Patong is just 10 minutes in a Tuk Tuk/taxi and at a cost of 300 bart one way, it is nothing to pay for staying in such luxury.

In short, the Moevenpick is fantastic. We have recently visited Sandals in Antigua and I would say this hotel is a good match for that. Very impressive.

My husband and I stayed at the Moevenpick from 29 May to 1 June 2009. We were very happy with this hotel and believe it truly deserves its 5 star rating.

When we arrived at the hotel, we were greeted with a cool towel and a welcome drink. Once we had checked in, we were taken to our room by the hotel buggy.

THE ROOM:
We stayed in a deluxe plunge pool room, which we booked online via directrooms.com. We received a complimentary upgrade to a king size bed plunge pool room. The room was lovely, with a large shower, bath, king size bed, outdoor plunge pool and shower. The plunge pool looked nice, but it was quite small and we didn't use it during our stay.

A few people have commented about the number of mosquitoes at the hotel. There were quite a few mosquitoes, but no more than we encountered anywhere else in Thailand. Just make sure you take Rid or similar with you and you will be fine.

FACILITIES:
The hotel itself is very large, set in lovely manicured gardens. The hotel has three pools (one large and two smaller ones). The large pool has a slippery slide and swim up bar. There is happy hour every afternoon with 2 for 1 cocktails. There were plenty of sun loungers, umbrellas and towels. There is free internet in the library, via three separate terminals. There is also a gym which is quite good.

BREAKFAST:
The breakfast was lovely. A good selection of cereals, breads, cakes, egg station, and fruit. The food on offer changes slightly each day. The hotel has quite a few restaurants, and while the pizza place was very good, it is a lot cheaper to eat in the restaurants outside the hotel.

LOCATION:
The hotel is located in the centre of Karon beach, about 5 mins walk from the main street which has plenty of restaurants to choose from. We were glad we didn't stay at the Hilton which was located much further away.

Karon itself is very nice, a lot quieter than Patong. So if you are after a buzzing place with lots of night life, Karon is probably not for you. We also found that Karon was a bit more expensive (both food and shopping) than Patong.

Overall we enjoyed our stay, and would definitely stay at the Moevenpick again.
