Unless it's a standalone villa, I'm not into resorts with overtly obsequious staff and the need to speak to everyone, yes, I am at risk of being a miserable 'ole git.
The Phunawa is none of these things. Rather, it is a well set out place. Yes, it's a walk to the beach, yes it has paint peeling in places. However, it's quiet, friendly, spacious and very, very comfortable. The pool is a pleasure. I'd advise booking one of the lower villas.
The restaurant could offer a bit more in the evening. The breakfast is quiet nice and relatively simple. The staff are good and most certainly not in your face. More
