abba Palacio de Arizon Hotel
Reviewed September 17, 2012

We had intended to stay for a week here but decided to move after only one night. We normally enjoy sitting on hotel terraces with a glass of wine and with a pleasant outlook but none of the rooms have this. Our terrace overlooked a noisy, smelly side street and was overlooked by local rooftops and houses; traffic noise was prominent and the soundproofing between rooms was poor. Published photos flatter to deceive as this hotel is surrounded by a sandy car park with limited space and ugly half dilapidated, partly knocked down walls. Yes, it in a state of renovation currently and based on the Moorish style of ‘beauty on the inside’ the hotel planners could do no other, given its hemmed-in location in a built up area. So if you’re looking for distant views, peace and quiet with a comfortable terrace this hotel is not for you. It was also hard to find with the instructions we had; we were prepared for it too having read some previous reviews. Although it’s on one of the main dual carriageway routes into and out of Sanlucar, it’s set back from the road and obscured by buildings with no immediate signage; it’s easy to miss; we did one lap of a large block and just happened luckily to spot it on the second pass. But there are some positives if your needs are different to ours and you’re not driving. The rooms are well kept and the facilities second to none; great shower and toilet in an unusual central room ‘pod’. The staff are very eager to please and gave us a bottle of the local Manzanilla with a typed apology as recompense for a reading light that wasn’t working. We weren’t there long enough to see much of the rest of the hotel but clearly it is work in progress. It’s never going to improve its closed-in location however and we moved to a hotel very close to the seafront and fish restaurants, avoiding taxi fares (or longish walks from one end of the town to the other) and with a large terrace over-looking the hotel pool. There we could enjoy our Manzanilla in peace without being overlooked.

Room Tip: It depends what you want. If its a terrace, room with a view, attractive exterior, proximity to the...

I've got a complete wrong impression from Tripadvisor reviews. This was the 1st time in my life that i had to cancel the rest of my stay at hotel after 1 night, the reasons :
1. The hotel is very beautiful but expensive without any specific reason (it's an ordinary 4 star hotel). 2. The swimming pool is so small that you might call is a tub or "open air bathroom". 3. Many of the rooms are surrounding the lobby which might be noisy (or with continuous chillout music). 5. Few other rooms (like ours) might be a wall away from a noisy street. In our case. we heard both the lobby on one side and the road from other side all night, 6. The hotel mattresses are terrible, both me and my wife waked up with back pain.
In addition to the ugly and boring city of Sanlucar, just dont stay there. try to look for hotel in lovely city Puerto De Santa Maria.

Room Tip: look for other hotels

Excellent hotel with a very Spanish/Moorish feel to it. The staff were very professional and also friendly. Bedrooms/bathrooms are very modern and scrupulously clean. We booked a standard room which was perfect for two people. Breakfast buffet was a good start to the day. The hotel is within easy walking distance to the beach and to Plaza Cabildo where it all happens in the evening. Would definitely revisit.

There is not a great deal of choice of accommodation in Sanluca de Barameda, but this historic hotel is a good choice.

It is still undergoing renovations, and the initial impressions are mixed, as the parking area is not complete.

But the reception staff are genuinely friendly and we felt very welcome.

Room was superb, with a small private terrace with views across old town.

The main internal patio has been restored.

I booked in here for a couple of nights comfort break in a camping holiday, and to get access to Sanlucar, and it fitted the bill brilliantly. The hotel is just on the edge of the main part of town with parking, which is very useful, and the centre is an easy walk. I was upgraded to a junior suite which was enormous and beautifully fitted out. The woman on the reception desk spoke English and volunteered useful information about the town, which has plenty to entertain. The pool is small. Service is unobtrusive.

This beautifully finished hotel, with spacious rooms, a wonderful lobby, and pool area is a great option. It has a moorish feel that is in keeping with the whole Andalusian feeling, and it is bang in town. The only issue, we felt, was internet. It is free downstairs, but only in certain places, and expensive in the room. We felt that much ado was being made about something that should be free. Even if it meant charging 2 extra euro for the room or whatever. Just a little fussy. But we had a day by the pool here with Rose and jamon, and it was the most relaxed and restorative day we had.
