We had intended to stay for a week here but decided to move after only one night. We normally enjoy sitting on hotel terraces with a glass of wine and with a pleasant outlook but none of the rooms have this. Our terrace overlooked a noisy, smelly side street and was overlooked by local rooftops and houses; traffic noise was prominent and the soundproofing between rooms was poor. Published photos flatter to deceive as this hotel is surrounded by a sandy car park with limited space and ugly half dilapidated, partly knocked down walls. Yes, it in a state of renovation currently and based on the Moorish style of ‘beauty on the inside’ the hotel planners could do no other, given its hemmed-in location in a built up area. So if you’re looking for distant views, peace and quiet with a comfortable terrace this hotel is not for you. It was also hard to find with the instructions we had; we were prepared for it too having read some previous reviews. Although it’s on one of the main dual carriageway routes into and out of Sanlucar, it’s set back from the road and obscured by buildings with no immediate signage; it’s easy to miss; we did one lap of a large block and just happened luckily to spot it on the second pass. But there are some positives if your needs are different to ours and you’re not driving. The rooms are well kept and the facilities second to none; great shower and toilet in an unusual central room ‘pod’. The staff are very eager to please and gave us a bottle of the local Manzanilla with a typed apology as recompense for a reading light that wasn’t working. We weren’t there long enough to see much of the rest of the hotel but clearly it is work in progress. It’s never going to improve its closed-in location however and we moved to a hotel very close to the seafront and fish restaurants, avoiding taxi fares (or longish walks from one end of the town to the other) and with a large terrace over-looking the hotel pool. There we could enjoy our Manzanilla in peace without being overlooked.
