“Fine Hotel from the Land of Fino”
Reviewed June 15, 2012

The Hotel Barrameda is a lovely little hotel in the very nice town of Sanlucar de Barrameda.

It is a two-star hotel but very clean with modern touches in the rooms and throughout the hotel - flat screen TVs in the rooms and wi-fi accessible everywhere. The entrance and reception area also double as the breakfast space; this is both delightful and very well-kept. White marble on the interiors and a beautiful patio area for sitting and reflecting. This sets a very good impression when you first arrive at the hotel in my opinion.

It is on the busy Calle Ancha in front of the Plaza Mayor. The location is perfect for the town centre and its range of fabulous bars and restaurants. The beach is a 10 minute walk away - but it's a pleasant walk without hills or impediments. Rooms facing Calle Ancha can be noisy in the early morning if you're not an early riser - deliveries arriving for bars and shops. But rooms in the interior of the hotel will guarantee a quiet night's sleep. Sanlucar is in the heart of sherry country by the way and it is something you should try at least once when you are there. The town is littered with fascinating small and large bodegas and the Barrameda Hotel can organise tours if you need assistance.

The Barrameda is probably best for couples or single travellers and those intent on shorter rather than longer stays (i.e. 1 to 3 nights). Overall a terrific little hotel and VERY GOOD value for money.

Room Tip: Ask for an interior room

If going to Sanlucar by car for the first time, don't stay here. There are one way sytems, pedestrian precincts and impossible to find parking. There was a carillon every half hour so it was hard to sleep. Staff were few and far between but were pleasant enough though seemingly immersed in their own problems. The room was comfortable, full stop.

We stayed at this hotel for three nights. It was such a relief after the very poor experience we had in Cadiz.

The hotel is on the central square where all the action takes place. It is a short walk to the sea and the jetty.

The room was spacious with a sunny balcony which was a complete bonus. Despite the central location, the room was very quiet. The bathroom very pleasant.

The hotel was well cared for and the public areas were light and airy. There was building work going on in the hotel but the nuisance was negligible and, although builders went through the public areas, there was no mess.

The breakfast was very pleasant and there was a choice of whether to eat outside in the courtyard or inside the breakfast room.

The restaurant at the front door (we did not understand whether it was part of the hotel or not) was very good and the staff very friendly. It specializes in meat dishes in contrast to other Sanlucar restaurants which focus on fish. It made a nice change

Room Tip: There are two rooms with a balcony (105 is one) which is very pleasant.

An overnight stay, with my family, whilst sampling the local sherries. The rooms are clean and well air-conditioned. Staff are helpful and attentive. The hotel is centrally positioned next to the main square but is not noisy as most rooms outlook over rear courtyards. Main problem is finding the underground car-park in the surrounding maze of one-way streets. Best to park at a convenient point and walk the route to car-park and hotel. Breakfast is adequate and good value.
Hotel is surrounded by excellent tapas bars and several good seafood restaurants within walking distance by the beach at Bajo de Guia. If visiting a Bodegas, recommend Bodegas Pedro Romero. They have a noon tour with an excellent English speaking guide - Sonya. It's a family business and the tour less commercialised than tours of the larger competitors in the area.

Remember that this is a two star establishment, so do not expect luxury or romance.. Rooms are not spacious but they are functional, clean and new and the air conditioning works. Breakfasts are OK, as long as you avoid the guests' coffee machine and get the staff to make it fresh for you. Reception staff are generally very helpful, although they do tend to clear up around you over breakfast and make a lot of noise while doing so. The position of the hotel is its great asset. You walk stright out onto the main square which has a real Hispanic happy buzz about it. Very special. And you are 200 metres from what some claim to be the best tapas bar in Andalucia,

Stayed at Hotel Barrameda for 3 weeks during July/August. Hotel is very clean and comfortable. Breakfast is great and staff are excellent. Very friendly and willing to help no matter what time of day or night even when they don't speak English. One gentleman staff speaks English who assisted me with the complimentary wifi. Best location in Sanlucar, however if you want to go to bed early can be quite noisey as you hear what is going on in the Plaza. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again or recommend to other travellers though.

Room Tip: rooms overlooking courtyard quiter to ones overlooking Plaza
