The drive to Cantallops, Gerona from the Franch/Spanish border was glorious, with an azure blue sky offering a landscape far and wide. Then the road became track to the mini car park which at first I found slightly daunting & as a lone traveller I did ponder what would happen if I bust a tire! But my Citreon Cactus C4 did me proud and I was rewarded with elevated views that were unbelievably stunning. Each curve and bend offered a new sight of forests, sea and/or the Pyrenees.I regret that I chose to walk from the car park (just before the gate) had I noticed that it was to take me 2:50hrs on foot I would certainly have travelled the rest of the way by car. The clouds were beginning to darken and I would not receommend coming down the mountain in rain. I set a target for a one hour walk, then turn back. The castle looked stunning in full sun with the inky backdrop of sepuchral skies. I will definately return and visit the castle by car.
