Had a fabulous time at the gorgeous Chateau de Chissay - not only is it a beautifully restored fairy tale castle, but the restaurant is worthy of 4 stars and the staff goes way beyond the call of duty to help. When we had a problem with a car rental, two ladies (Julie Talbot and Caroline Baum - got their names because they were so nice) spent over an hour resolving it. This was my second time staying here, and definitely will come back.

It is definitely time for new owners or new management. We stayed in a 155€ bedroom by the swimming pool. First of all, the bedroom was minimal in terms of decor and furnishing : do not expect a bed cover, cushions, paintings on walls, a tv or a finished loo! Obvisouly at Chateau de Chissay, less is more! Swimming pool area clearly an unmanned department given that they were no mattresses, towels and empty bottles left on tables, cigarette trays overflowing... The following morning after presented the same picture. Greeted in the morning to the sound of a cement mixer right outside our window, tractor and lawn mower. The power failure that followed we imagine was just unfortunate!
Staff members were fairly pleasant although we didn't appreciate the lack of assistance in the carriage of luggage and lack of concern about our unpleasant stay.

Food was served and presented perfectly, it was a pleasure. It is very unfortunate that the profeciency of the kitchen could not be extended to the other departments of the hotel.

On informing the management of the power cut, we were given a 50€ discount.

While not quite as elegant as Chenonceau, Chateau de Chissay did not disappoint us. Yes, the rooms may be a bit dated, but spacious is not a generous enough term and the bathroom was the best we had in France. The view from our room was nice, the staff couldn't have been more helpful, and the location was perfect for us.
After a hard day of chateau-ing, we decided to eat in the dining room in spite of the known expense and a few bad Tripadvisor reviews. Wow - our dinner included 7 courses, took over three delicious hours, included an attentive and friendly wait staff, and was the highlight meal of our time in France - and that is really saying a lot as we never had a bad meal in 15 nights.
Breakfast, however, was a disappointment. Not that it was bad; but for the price, we thought we would get more than the standard croissants and cold cereal.

Room Tip: - It's a chateau with no elevator and only a narrow spiral staircase, so pack accordingly. - Pa...

Stayed here three times now, each time a delight.
The restaurant staff are professional and friendly, the food and wines excellent, and the cosy, vaulted restaurant itself is very special.
Practise your rusty school French, and it WILL pay dividends.

Yes, some of the bathrooms are a little tired, but it isn't a modern, soulless Raddisson/Holiday Inn/Marriot - the whole place oozes character.
An easy walk along the river from the gem that is Chenonceau, and an easy drive to the other chateaux of the Loire and Cher.

I think one of the rooms we had was no.16, with a small sitting room in one of the turrets and two large windows overlooking the Cher.

The hotel was great with beautiful mid-evil turrets. The restaurant was another story. There was one waiter for the entire restaurant of over 40 people. The poor waiter was over worked. He ignored us and only took our order after I said in French, "Sir, I want to eat." It was an excellent 5 course gourmet dinner. It just took too long (from 8pm to 10pm) to serve it. We were leaving at 9 am the next day for a bike tour of the Loire Valley. We returned here at he end of our bike trip and there were 3 waiters in the dining room. The service was much better.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in one of the turrets.

We spent 3 wonderful days in this splendid hideaway for our 25th Wedding Anniversary.
All expectations were met or exceeded...especially at dinner, where reservations seem to be encouraged. The breakfast and noon meal were standard European fare, but considering the locale and general ambiance , whats not to like. Be sure and walk the woodsy trail through the forest early in the morning.Just perfect.

Room Tip: The stairs(winding) are the primary means of access to the upper floors, however an elevator near th...

What a beautiful chateau on the Cher River! A medieval building of stone, well maintained and clean rooms with modernised bathrooms. The staff were so helpful and friendly, free Wifi was available, food was so plentiful and of superb quality, waiters were professional and courteous, grounds were neat with groomed gardens, and rural views scenic. Our bicycles were stored undercover before our bike tour commenced. All queries were cheerfully answered and information given freely. This chateau gave us a vision of the good life back in the middle ages when people came to hunt in the nearby forest and to retreat from city life. Excellent!

Room Tip: A suite in the tower across the courtyard is larger and quieter
