“Le Petit Clos, Chaumont-sur-Tharonne”
Reviewed October 20, 2011

Le Petit Clos is the most delightful B&B we have ever experienced in France. Easy to locate and in a tranquil, pretty village it couldn't be better. We travelled up from the Dordogne in August. A family of five we had booked two adjoining rooms and reserved parking in the courtyard for our car and trailer tent. Welcomed by Rene, we were shown to our rooms and once settled invited to have a drink in the beautiful garden. He had also reserved a table for us in the restaurant in the village, just around the corner....The rooms were wonderful, furnished comfortably with mainly antique pieces and unusual items, clean, modern bathrooms with ample towels and toiletries and the little finishing touches that show the pride that Rene and Thierry take in their hospitality. It was such a pleasure to sit in the garden, watching their three spaniels playing and admiring the many flowers and plants that surround you. Rene served us with a choice of drinks - wine, beer and soft drinks for the children and some small snacks, beautifully presented. After a day packing up and travelling it was heaven. The restaurant was as comfortable, with pleasant decor and quirky bar stools (swings). The food was all lovely but would definately recommend the beef bourguignon. After the meal it was pleasant to walk around the village square with the church lit up in the centre. It was August and there was no-one else around and it was only 10.30 pm. A good nights sleep and a refreshing shower later and we were ready to enjoy what was a sumptuous breakfast. Once again the hospitality and welcome was second to none. Fresh patisserie and bread, yogurt, fruit salad in little bowls, delicious french toast served with maple syrup (renes speciality!), tea, coffee, hot chocolate and homemade jam, also made by Rene...oh my goodness it was fabulous! Will definately return - highly recommended!

After a long drive up from the South we were delighted to reach Chaumont-sur-Tharonne and then to locate Le Petit Clos. There was easy parking practically opposite and both Thierry and Rene, together with their three spaniels, were on hand to greet us. After settling into our room (Chambord) Rene invited us to have a glass of wine and a chat with him in their beautiful garden. Thierry was previously an antiques dealer and they've managed to retain many pieces - both large and ornate and also many quirky bits and pieces. A fascinating place. Rene had made a couple of suggestions for dinner but as we didn't want to drive, La Brocante around the corner was the only choice. It's also the local bar and for some reason has a couple of swings to perch on, a large stuffed wild boar and a gigantic Terminator looking thing with pink hair! But it was fine and the locals were fun and friendly. The restaurant offered a variety from pizza to local dishes and we both had a good meal accompanied by an excellent bottle of Rose. C-sur-T is a beautiful and peaceful little village with some lovely buildings. Our room was very comfortable with a TV and a small kettle etc. so we could make coffee. The bathroom was also very clean with more towels than we needed. Breakfast was scrummy - orange juice, fresh fruit salad, yoghurt, wonderful French Toast cooked as you sat down plus, of course, the usual fresh croissants and breads. These were accompanied by Rene's delicious home made jams. I really wish they'd been readily for sale as they were so good and such original flavours. Perhaps that's something they could consider? All in all, we had a wonderful, comfortable stay with charming and friendly hosts. Oh, an indulgent visit to the Patisserie is highly recommended!

we looked for a nice place in the midway from perigor to paris- and we find heaven. a little hotel of 8 rooms or so, which run by wonderful couple. everything is so perfect, from the litte things in the room through the cold drink in the entrence and finally the wonderful breakfast- and the hospitality was the best we ever expirience at france, and maybe ever at all. the only disadvantage was the lack of aircondition, but lucky it was't so hot that night. very highly recomended hotel.

We read the reviews before staying here and can agree that they do the place justice. This is a wonderful hotel in a beautiful village. As we enjoyed a welcome drink with Rene in the garden, he told us that they have been booked solid from March 2011 with only a few vacancies. We could understand why.

The hotel is spotlessly clean and full of character. You are welcomed by the owners like family and there are lots of little touches that make the stay special, such as booking a table at a local restaurant, the fantastic French toast and the setting of a place specially for our baby son. We stayed with our three young children (aged 5,4 and 1) who slept in an adjoining room to ours.

This is a great place for families and couples alike in an idyllic setting.

This is the best B&B we have stayed in. The balance of charming, professional service & being left alone is just right. The hotel is beautiful & spotless. It has character and warmth. It made the start of our holiday and will be a regular stop over for the trip south.

After a horrible drive from the Netherlands, we arrived around 10 pm. We have had contact with the owners and they welcomed us into their bed and breakfast which looked lovely with nice antiques and cute dogs!! We slept very well in this quiet village and had an suburb breakfast next morning with wentelteefjes and homemade marmalade. We are traveling with three kids in the age of 5, 7, and 9 and the owners were perfectly fine with them. We will definitely come back!!!
