Description: The Cassolette is a small restaurant, on the edge of National Road Number 6 in Creches sur Saone Village.Elisabeth and Jean-Marie will be happy to receive you in a nice frame in dining room with sympathetic pastels colour. Our cooking is French traditional type with menu of the day that changes every day. We are at the junction of three small areas which surround us that are Maconnais, Beaujolais and Bresse. You can taste 3 menus of our country side. The most of our products come from small suppliers of the immediate surroundings of the restaurant: cheese-maker, poulterer, pork-butcher, baker... The wines which we propose come directly from producers that we know and selected for the quality of their products. Enjoy your meal.

“Fantastic evening, amazing food and wine!”

What a fantastic find! Selected this restaurant based on previous reviews as we were staying nearby and wanted an authentic experience. This restaurant may be simple in its appearance but the standard of food and service provided by the husband and wife team was excellent! The menu is all based around local produce, ask for wine recommendations as the owner is very knowledgeable and was able to suggest very good local wines, both white and red (all very much enjoyed!), we understand he was a professor of winemaking previously.

Went for the set menu facon beaujolais (as did two of my friends - the other friend is vegetarian and the owner suggested a special dish prepared for him). Do not miss the saucisson, cooked sliced sausage, so tasty! Cheese and dessert were to die for, all polished off by a very good eau de vie (grappa) from Bourgogne.

A fantastic evening and very good value for money also.

“a very pleasant find!”
Reviewed June 2, 2013

We arrived in the Macon area in a downpour, looking for some lunch before we set out for wine tasting. Found this little restaurant on our cell phones w/good reviews, so we stopped in. We were warmly welcomed by a gentleman who we assumed was the owner, and he very graciously helped us with the menu in his best English. We were late for the lunch hour and soon were the only people there. We ordered from the plat du jour choices, 3 courses, and everything, soups, salads, mains and desserts were all very tasty. Our host checked on us and chatted with us about where we were from, and where we were going. He gave us recommendations for tasting venues and directions before we left too. All in all, a simple little place with good basic food.

“If only there were more places like this in France”
Reviewed August 26, 2012

Restaurant La Cassolette is a fine example of what is a dying breed of restaurants in France which make good quality food at modest prices and which offer friendly service. So few exist in France today so it is refreshing to discover the occasional gem. The menu is very much regional and the food and ingredients are generally of a high quality which makes for a good experience for the diner. The owners were very welcoming and exceptionally friendly. If you are in the Beaujolais area this place if definitely worth a look-in and suits couples or diners.

“A lovely experience with warm and charming hosts and great value.”
Reviewed May 9, 2011

We were recommended this restaurant by a local wine producer a few kilometres from Creches-sur-Saone. Frankly it isn't the sort of place that we'd have picked out ourselves but it was an absolutely charming experience. We had a lunch menu for 13 Euros and it turned out to be excellent value and very good food in a typical French restaurant style. Our host was an absolute gentleman, allowing us to stutter through our poor command of French language and then helping us with excellent English when he needed to. Never on our shoulder but always there when needed and his knowledge of the local wines was explained by his lifelong involvement in practising and teaching oenology. During our time in Burgundy we experienced some pretty fancy and expensive restaurants but this was the one that we took home the memories from and wanted to leave a review for. This is on a main route and very easy to turn off and pop in for lunch... treat yourself to a genuine little piece of hospitality from this lovely region of France. And, if you get the chance, don't pass on the Pannacotta (it's to die for!). :-)
