Within 15 minute walking distance from Beynac and 3 minutes walk to the Dordogne River this newly built house in the style of an old barn is perfectly situated in a peaceful location in the middle of the scenic Dordogne region. Within a 15 minute drive from Sarlat and many other local attractions, this well equipped house makes a great holiday base. We are a family of five adults and it suited us perfectly.
We travelled as a family of 6 adults and a 2 year old to Chemin de la Dordogne. We arrived in gloriously sunny weather and although slightly early the cleaning company let us get into the pool which was brill as our little girl couldn't wait to get in! There was a lovely welcome basket of bread milk orange juice, biscuits and muesli which was lovely. The house certainly has the wow factor as you drive up to it and it doesn't disappoint inside either, it is beautifully done. There are three upstairs bedrooms with air con and one downstairs master with ensuite. A large open plan living and dining room and a fabulous outside eating area and pool. Our 2 year old loved the ponies in the field opposite. The rooms did get rather hot when the temperature soared but the air con and various fans did help with this. We have stayed in a more traditional stone house in the Dordogne with shutters previously and did find that it was a little cooler but it didn't have the wow factor of Chemin de la Dordogne.
We had a couple of problems with the boiler and hot water whilst we were there but Erwin and Roelien were very easy to contact and sorted it out quickly and even left beer and wine to compensate which was a lovely gesture.
10 mins walk into Beynac along the river which was beautiful. There is a fab little bakery with superb croissants as you cross the road when you get into town, opposite Camping le Capeyrou. 5 mins drive to Les Jardins des Marquessac and Castelnaud, 10 mins to La Roque Gageac and about 15 mins from Sarlat. All 100% must see places. Super restaurants in town too, La Petite Tonelle was excellent for an evening meal and restaurant Malleville for lunch. Le Donjon was lovely for coffee and crepes after a castle visit too.
A fantastic holiday-thankyou Roelien and Erwin for your hospitality!
What a beautiful converted barn! It has the "wow " factor. There were five adults and two children in our party but there was ample space for us all and none of us felt "cramped".
The pool was a good size and great fun. The garden was large and in a field within the garden were two little Shetland ponies who we all took great delight in feeding. The surrounding area is just so stunning. ten mins walk to Benynac....the most gorgeous village and walking along the river Dordogne to get to it....it was paradise. Nearby Sarlat.... about a 7 km car journey fantastic busy vibrant town, loads of cafes and restaurents....great shops.... . We all came home and agreed the trip had been a marvellous success...the only down side being the pound being so weak! But you cant have everything!
Excellent location. Easy walk to Beynac. Nice villa. Weather was hot enough to comfortably use the pool. Lots of space for games and parking.
