“Wonderful stay in all respects”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2014

Sandra and Bouduin were wonderful hosts. We stayed just under a week in the St. Hubertus suite for five nights. We arrived and because we had read in another review about the romantic forest walk to the small castle town going through the forest and with a flashlight, we just had to do it. Definitely romantic and fun, and we ate at a decent restaurant recommended by our hosts. Which was very important because I am sure the other restaurants in town are more tourist-oriented and not as high quality. The suite was nothing less than spectacular - spacious, beautiful decoration, huge bathroom and just wonderful and cosy after a day of sightseeing and wanting to lay in bed and read. Breakfast was always a major affair, delicious and varied with wonderful conversation and tips from our hosts. They knew all the best restaurants in the area and were also well informed on local sites and gave great advice (particulary regarding all the castles) after gauging what our personal interests were. We would definitely come back and very highly recommend staying here.

We decided to take a breather from Paris on our honeymoon to explore the Dordogne and we're so glad we did. We stayed in the St. Hubertus suite, hosts Sandra and Bouduin were perfect with great information about the surrounding area and Sandra was spot on with her restaurant recommendations. One of our most memorable meals was just in town (short walk from the property) "La Petite Tonnelle" which I believe Sandra is a regular there. The old fashioned fireplace was great in our room and we spent every night in front of it enjoying our wine. The property is very peaceful and serene, definitely a stay we will cherish.

Among the lasting impressions I have of this absolute gem of a place is the deep silence of the surrounding woods especially at night. When we booked it was he hosts' website photos of quaint originality blended with carefully designed modern amenities which triggered our enthusiasm and confidence. So too did the email correspondence with host Sandra. English may be her second language but you'd never guess. Sandra's people-loving joie de vivre together with the wry humour of partner Baudouin personalised our experience to an unforgettable extent.
When first we arrived it became apparent that the publicity photos of loggia with easy chairs adjoining our room and the fairytale setting of the hosts' house with detached accommodation were every bit the delight we had anticipated... and exceeded expectations.
In the evening when we would return from dinner in nearby Beynac et Cazenac we were greeted by the warm flicker of the woodburner. On other evenings we would enjoy a bottle of wine from the selection in our room and make up a smorgasbord to enjoy around the antique farm-kitchen table.
Balcon en Foret appealed to us, and I gather appeals to the very wealthy who want to experience something of authentic France, sans swimming pool and the usual anglicised/americanised trappings.

A wonderful experience.

Room Tip: The Baron Perche room has first floor traditional windows opening to a secluded view of woods.

We recently spent 3 nights in the St. Hubertis suite and were extremely happy with this property. It was a little cool in the evenings, so we used the wood-burning fireplace. The bed was extremely comfortable and the suite was beautifully furnished and very roomy, with a fridge and coffee maker. Sandra and Bouduin were very helpful in recommending things to do, including calling for reservations. The location is great because there is a nice path through the woods to the main street of Beynac, so we were able to leave the car when doing things in Beynac and nearby. We also enjoyed the lovely breakfast room and delicious breakfasts. I only wish we could have stayed longer. In general, we found Beynac to be a very good base for exploring the area. This was by far the nicest place we stayed on our two week trip. I highly recommend it.

Spent a month traveling all over western France and found this to be one of our favorites. We loved our room, breakfast was wonderful, and our hosts were a wealth of information about things to do in the area. Beynac was much less touristy than many of the other areas we visited and drop dead beautiful. We would come back in a minute!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Sandra and Baudouin in their lovely place. They were charming hosts who have put a lot of thought and effort into making a stay with them a great experience. The setting is fabulous and ideally situated for exploring .... or chilling out according to your needs. Great breakfasts and Sandra's warmth and laughter are a joy.

I LOVED staying at this charming, rustic B&B. The location, hosts, accommodation and ambience are superlative. It was a totally idyllic experience and we felt totally at home. We booked the Baron Perche suite for 4 nights and used Balcon et Foret as a base for exploring the Dordogne. The location is ideal, a 5-30 minute drive from all the main sites.

Sandra and Baudouin were perfect hosts who provided us with great information about the area in advance, made restaurant reservations and provided wonderful advice. There were attentive, but discrete and the breakfasts provided were just lovely, made and serviced with love and were substantial.

The property has a gorgeous sun drenched outdoor terrace, perfect for an evening drink. One night we enjoyed a bottle of wine, reclining on deck chairs, under a very old oak tree in once of the fields that make up the property - watching the sun set and local hot air balloons. Bliss.

There is a track down to the village (Beynac) which is very handy (5 min down, 10 min walk up).

This place is simply magical, great for the soul and one of the best placed I've ever stayed. Treat yourself and someone you love, and stay there!
