just got back from a week here so here it is. Good points. Hotel couldn"t be better located right on the sea edge ,beautiful view over the sea to la gomera from your balcony( if you have a poolview room ) sun goes down also on this side too.Staff all very helpful and polite including the manager.Food ok but could be better for a 4* plus. Hotel has had upgrade recently (more modern look) which was not to the liking of the guests who have been visiting for years. but i found it was good.(Satellite tv with english chanels.) Now for the Bad points. Los Gigantes is a very small resort with only a few shops and bar come resturants .Every where you go is up hill so dont visit if you struggle to walk .The Hotel salt water pool is the coldest i have swam in (must get its water from the arctic circle) hardly used as 80% of the guests were over the age of 65( so youngsters beware.) The entertainment is poor on an evening and during the day. Also the Al L carte resturant does not exist (it was blown away in a storm) so tables are set outside on the terrace now.Dont book a highfloor room as the lifts get full from the lowerfloors first and you will wait ages to come down. But if you want peace and quiet with nothing to do but chill out this is the place for you i loved it but not for the wife.

Room Tip: go for a poolview room half way up

My wife & I stayed here for a few days, and found it to be pleasent enough. Staff were friendly and helpfull. The sea facing rooms have excellent views. The glass balcony boundries make a big difference to this effect in my opinion, but might give certain people vertigo on the higher floors ! We only took breakfast, yes its busy and in a large area, but we could always find a seat and staff were always helpfull if called upon. A good choice of food was offered of a good standard. We statyed on B&B only as we enjoy eating out, and the village has pleanty of choice of good restaurants, the square were they are concentrated is almost opposite. I did notice when I was staying the clientell was of later years and saw No children, in my opinion made for a quiter stay, but then that was the measure of the location.

Room Tip: Sea facing, 3rd floor or above.

We stayed at the Los Gigantes Hotel 4 - 13 November 2012. It is in a great location and were, in the main, impressed by the 3.5 million Euros refurbishment.

The reception area is spacious, bright and professionally staffed and well managed. Our bedroom was very light and we were impressed by its modernity, but urgently needs a full length mirror, which I understand are due for imminent fitting. We found our bedroom to be cleaned well everyday, towels changed regularly and a change of bedding during our 9 night stay.

On commenting very favourably on the reception staff, I wish I could say the restaurant staff provided an even acceptable level of professionalism. The majority of them took far too long to clear tables between courses, were unfriendly and on occasions bordering on rudeness.

My impression, as a retired director of a large number of staff, rests with the Restaurant Manager himself. He has been at the hotel for many years and is extremely popular with many of the returning guests. At times it is clear that he thrives on the adulation he receives but at the expense of managing his retaurant and its staff. My objective comments here will not be well received by many of the returning clients, but I feel this should be addressed in a positive manner by the hotel management. Incidentally, I was not alone in taking this view.

As to the food itself, both the hot food at breakfast and dinner was at the best only lukewarm. The response to this criticism by the Restaurant Manager was "heat it up in the microwave which is sited in the restaurant for this purpose". I am aware this unsatisfactory response was given to a number of guests during our stay.

Moving on, the bars were well run and very clean as was the pool and its surrounding area.

A large recently refurbished hotel, set on the coast in Los Gigantes. The location is really good, with views out to the Atlantic to the west of Tenerife, so great sunsets. The Hotel has quite a few facilities - the problem is no one tells you about them.

Most refurbishment has been in the public areas and the main pool area. These areas have a good contemporary feel to them and are well furnished with the usual sun beds and shades by the pools (there are2). The temperature of the pools is more suited to penguins than humans – even TT found it too cold (burrrr). Beware there are those who go to reserve their sunbeds at 7am when it is still dark!

The bar area and areas around it have plenty of room to sit and relax.

The rooms have had less attention, with the bathrooms still set in the 70’s, they could have least replaced the shower heads, ours was due replacement or a good clean. The bedrooms have been painted and a full-length mirror added during our stay. The balconies are good, even without a pool view – we had a good view of the harbour and cliffs. Service was a real problem – our room was only cleaned prior to 3 once (the day the mirror was fitted). This is not really acceptable.

Most of the people staying in the hotel were retired and have stayed there a number of times before. Their views of the changes were mixed, especially the food (more later) and the lack of day time entertainment.

The hotel is branded as a Thomson’s Couples hotel. Thomson’s brochure describes such hotels as “Contemporary, adults only hotels. Expect stylish eateries worth dressing up for “

TT recommends that if possible stay on a bed and breakfast basis – the hotel favours half or full board. The one restaurant is more of a canteen – rather than a stylish eatery worth dressing up for (and they have a dress code in the evening, which given the ambiance of the venue is a bit much!). Despite having a half board package TT ate out 5 nights of the 7. There is the option of waiter service once per week, there are two choices on the menu – take it or leave it, the menu for this option was not changed during the 7 days.

It is fine for the buffet breakfast, which is good. Omelettes, fried eggs etc. are freshly cooked and there is a selection of fresh fruit – shame about the coffee, which is awful.

There is no food available from 3.30pm until dinner starts at 6.30pm .

Wifi is an expensive option, with 2 grades of service – why do European hotels still charge extra. Other extras include 10 euros a week to use the safe in your room!

Entertainment in the bar in the evening hit a low point with comic Elvis.

This hotel appears to be trying to appeal to a younger customer, but they need improve the evening dining and sort some of the service out.

But for location and if staying for B&B it is acceptable.

Room Tip: Go for a higher floor.

We visited this hotel on the recommendation of friends who had holidayed there a few years ago.Despite reading many negative reviews post refurbishment, we went with an open mind, convinced that by November the hotel would be of a couples standard.Sadly we found that all of the problems highlighted by other guests still existed.Although the hotel is indeed in a stunning location with a beautiful pool area, the overall impression is that the stark whiteness of the walls and furniture is more in keeping with a hospital. The rooms still have no mirrors and the lack of staff is at the root of most of the other problems. Our room was never cleaned before 3, and on two consecutive days the bed was made, but the bathroom was neither cleaned, nor did it have fresh towels- in fact on one of the days, the dirty towels had been picked up from the floor and hung back up! The restaurant was reminiscent of a school canteen and most days we'd to search for clean crockery and cutlery. The food choice certainly did not reach Gold standard, never mind Couples "fine dining" In fact we chose to eat out for three of the seven nights. We did fill out a complaints form, so that perhaps management can begin to sort out the problems and the hotel may yet reach Couples standard.

Room Tip: It is worth paying for a sea view room.

The recent refurbishment of the hotel truly makes the most of the wonderful location of this hotel, however it is far from finished. The new minimalist bedrooms are let down because the bathrooms have not been refurbished and the lack of any mirror, never mind a full length one, in the bedroom meant using the only mirror available in the bathroom - hopeless when that is steamed up from the shower.

Unfortunately the refurbished dining room feels like a student refectory - with so many tables for two making it look regimented. Other reviewers are right, one or two of the waiters are truly miserable, though many others are charming and willing to please as is the Manager Tomas. Table clearance was particularly slow.

If you plan to visit this hotel I would urge you to pack rehydration sachets and Loperamide to take should you be unlucky enough to get the bug which is evidentally still a problem in the hotel despite it having been closed for two and a half months.

I won't be rushing back.

We had a great time at Los Gigantes, a fabulous panoramic sea view from the seventh floor, a bottle of sparkling wine on arrival in our room compliments of the house. A huge double bed, lovely room. Well fed and watered, friendly staff. Quiet resort perfect for a get away holiday.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms have a stunning view but can get warm, air conditioning works well but only if the ba...
