“First class!”
Reviewed August 24, 2013

Just returned from two weeks in the Vue de Duras Gite. Can honestly say that this is the best property we have visited in France. Hugh and Fiona have created a superb property with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The kids have enjoyed the pool whilst we have relaxed on the terrace, soaking up the views over the valley and across to the Duras chateaux. With its proximity to so many beautiful towns it is the perfect location for a relaxing family holiday. So much so that we have already booked for next year!. A little gem in an idyllic location.

We've recently returned from a fantastic stay at the 'Vue de Duras' and enjoyed every minute. We were made to feel extremely welcome by Hugh and Fiona the hosts, who were so helpful with everything, full of good advice and nothing was too much trouble for them. The gite is in a great position, with a handy super market just 10 minutes away. The typically French village of Duras is charming and just a short drive from the gite where you can enjoy the bars and restaurants it has to offer. The gite itself is delightful and decorated with pretty pieces of hand painted furniture and has such a homely feel that you can't help but completely relax! The breakfast was perfectly laid out each morning and we were given a lovely choice of fresh fruit, croissants, breads and cereals and enjoyed these whilst sat on the terrace overlooking the pool...perfect start to the day. We defiantly recommend the Vue de Duras and will most certainly be returning. Thank you Hugh & Fiona for such a lovely holiday with memories we will keep forever.

This was my second trip having stayed here in April. What could have been a heavy few days house hunting in hot weather was turned into a relaxing and enjoyable experience by Fiona and Hugh's hospitality. Having a weekend to relax by the pool before starting the house viewing trips was just what I needed, and coming back after gruelling days in the car to relax, swim in the lovely pool and enjoy Fiona's home cooked cakes and tea with fellow guests by the pool was a fantastic end to each day. Fiona and Hugh's care and hospitality is exceptional and this is a great base for house hunting as well as for holidays and sight seeing.

Room Tip: Last time I stayed in Wisteria, and this time in an equally lovely room at the front with a bigger b...

We stayed at Vue de Duras for longer than most (9 nights) and I can heartily recommend it. Hugh & Fiona were great hosts, knowing exactly when to offer assistance and providing superb advice on local sights and restaurants etc., including maps of local walks, lists of night markets, and tea at just the right time (and excellent cake, apparently).
A couple of tips: many restaurants an attractions are closed on Mondays (sometimes Tuesdays also!) and we thought the two best lock restaurants were Le Cabri and Don Camillo in Duras .

We stayed for a long weekend at Vue de Duras and it was tip top. Hugh and Fiona's philosophy seemd to be one of pure unadulterated hospitality. We were met with tea and cake, cooked a wonderful dinner and given every assistance in deciding what to do with our time. It is the perfect location to enjoy: food, wine and walking - which is pretty much the combination we settled upon! It's a very pretty, friendly part of France and lovely to drive about too. We had a great time and can recommend staying here as a base to explore the area or to just enjoy hanging out.

We have just returned having had a wonderful week with Hugh & Fiona .We stayed in the Wisteria room with its own Balcony overlooking the valley & the delightful village of Duras. It was all you could ask for. Breakfast on the Terrace by the pool watching the peaceful scenery & the local farmers tending their vines. A pure gem with memories I will long remember. Thanks to you both for all you did. We will return

We stayed 3 nights as guests of Hugh and Fiona. They have done a splendid job with the house and gite, and really are the perfect hosts, helpful, friendly, yet unobtrusive. The views of the castle are great, and breakfast or dinner on the terrace with such a backdrop is memorable. Rooms and en-suites are of a good size and comfortable. The pool is lovely too, and is great for cooling off on a hot day.
Fiona occasionally prepares evening meals, and if offered I would certainly recommend you accept. They are more like informal dinner parties, and the food is plentiful and high quality.
A great stay, and we'll be back.

Room Tip: They're all good. For families, 2 rooms interconnect via a Jack & Jill shower room.
