“Excellent place to stay”

The moment we arrived at El Castanar we were welcomed very warm and friendly. It made us feel at home immediately. We were given very useful information about the surrounding and the couple that runs El Castanar showed us our very nice, big room with exceptional view of the mountains. We had the El Alamo room, which is a comfortable room with a big bed, loungy chairs and a beautiful bathroom.
The environment is beautiful with views over the mountains and valleys. In their own made open cabin in the garden you can sit and relax from your hiking. Hiking routes start nearby and you can take them all through the surrounding mountains. Walking guides are also available in several languages, including comments from other guest that have already walked the routes. Great concept!
The nearest town is Trevelez, which offers the best dried ham of the country. We recommend to take the car to Trevelez. The walk (75min) is quite long, especially in the evening when the road is dark.
The homemade breakfast, which is obviously made with love and care, is held in the cozy dining room. During breakfast the owner Felix is showing photo’s from the environment and his own travels though many countries all over the world. They are very well travelled and good company.
We look back at a great time we had and we really recommend El Castanar for a stay. In the future we would like to come back for a longer period.

Room Tip: All rooms (5) have good views over the mountains.

We wanted somewhere in the Alpujarras region of the Sierra Nevada, ideally in a rural location rather than one of the two main towns (Orgiva and Lanjarron). El Castanar Nazari was selected on the basis of its uniformly excellent Tripadvisor reviews, and it proved a great choice. Although in a relatively isolated area, the hotel is easily reached on well maintained roads and is only 5 km from Trevelez, where there are plenty of good places to eat. The property is beautifully appointed, with very large rooms and lots of nice touches like high quality toiletries and bathrobes. The views are stunning and the gardens ideal for relaxation in utter peace and tranquillity. At the time of our stay Encarna was away on a short trip, but Felix was a wonderful host and made us feel like family. He also produced a first class breakfast on both the days we were at the hotel. El Castanar Nazari was the nicest place we have stayed at in Spain and we plan to return.

Staying at the El Castanar Nazari was a figurative and literal high point of our trip to Spain. The location allowed us to escape the standard tourist route and see a part of the country that seemed real. The white villages, the mountains, and the peace and quiet were all welcome. The inn itself is a gem. The unique, large modern rooms with private entrances provide a sense of privacy that is hard to find. The setting on the mountain side with a garden and a great view was perfect. The only thing wrong with our visit was that we did not stay long enough.

We stayed here for 3 nights in May on our way from Granada to the Mojacar area. The hotel is nestled in the mountains and is a beautiful place to stay and experience the Alpujarras. Felix and Encarna are wonderful hosts and nothing is too much trouble. It was very cold and wet the day we arrived and the next day, Encarna arrived in our room with a wheelbarrow full of logs ready to light the log burner! This kept us very warm and cosy and we relaxed on the sofa in our room very happily. The next 2 days were very warm and sunny and we enjoyed touring around visiting the little mountain villages and admiring the beautiful scenery. The breakfasts were so tasty, always fresh fruit and yogurt and delicious home made cakes.
We would love to return to this beautiful peaceful retreat again one day.

We stayed two nights in early June and wish we had been able to stay longer. The hotel is very well designed and extremely comfortable, and the views are simply amazing. Restaurants, etc., are an easy 5 minute drive away in Trevelez, but we are glad we chose to stay outside of town to enjoy the scenery and tranquility. Felix is a very warm and engaging host who enjoyed sharing his knowledge of the area and made us feel right at home. This was our first visit to the Alpujarras and the area was more tranquil and less touristy than we had expected. We will definitely be back.

After a long drive from madrid, we arrived to the place, and it was the best way to start the vacation.
Wonderful scenery, quit, very clean and well decorated. We took the addvice and went up the hill to a short walk along the river, and it was lovely.
We sure get back there!

El CastaNar Nazari is one of those place you come across rarely that exceed expectations on every front. Felix, the host, was completely charming and made us feel altogether at home, despite no common language. The room and bathroom were very attractively designed and with every convenience you expect in a top city hotel, including good wifi. The public areas are good, too. The views of the Alpujarras mountains are terrific. Breakfast was good.

This is a remote spot, for Europe. The Alpujarras have a wild and colourful history. El CastaNar Nazari is within sight of Spain's highest peak, still with snow cover when were there. The drive from the main highway from Granada to the coast is a long and winding one. El CastaNar Nazari is not in Busquistar town but about 15km further on, a few km from the village of Trevelez, home of top-grade ham. Make sure you have clear directions and a full tank.
