Two evenings a month, Restaurante Alborada hosts a cookery course for local residents and visitors in Arroyo de la Miel/Benalmadena. Chef Elisa cooks 3 delicious Spanish dishes in front of the diners while they enjoy a complimentary wine or beer. 3 courses plus a drink, water and bread, just 12 euros, and you even get the recipes to try cooking the dishes at home. The food is delicious, and even more interesting is having seen it prepared. Tonight we had a warming chickpea soup packed full of tasty meat and vegetables, cod in mandarin sauce (cod is one of their specialities) and a creamy Andalucian-style custard called "gachas". I have eaten fantastic food all over Spain when I worked as a tour guide, and I assure you that the food here is prepared with a great deal of care and attention. I have been once a month for the last 4 months, and I plan to continue going for a very long time! Forget the cliches about the Costa del Sol being nothing but fish and chips, those who live there know the truth, and go to restaurants like this one!
