This is an old property which, in typical Swiss tradition, has been well maintained. However, rooms are dark and beds are very dated. The bathrooms have been modernised. Rooms not facing the lake, are noisy (parking area, and street). Reception is very friendly and multilingual. Upon arrival, my room had major ceiling leaks and the reception moved me to an adjacent room. We occupied 3 rooms (265, 265 and 152) and none of us slept well (as mentioned, the noise and all rooms are far too warm due to the underfloor heating which cannot be switched off). Breakfast has to be taken in the restaurant across the street - the breakfast is plentiful but the breakfast room is too small to accommodate all guests. We had dinner on the evening of arrival and found the food of good quality however very expensive (even for Switzerland). Parking is free. Wifi is free but the reception in the rooms is mediocre. On balance, we cannot recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for room facing the lake. Avoid rooms on level 1 at the parking side.

We stayed here on 16th May for one night. The hotel is very traditional, with old decor and plenty of character. It was clean and the bed was comfy. Continental breakfast was delicious. I would stay here again.

Free internet but hotspot was weak in our room.

my only concern was the fact that we left the hotel for a few hours and came back to see loads of fire fighters surrounding it. Luckily there was no fire, apparently there was a burst pipe down stairs and the cellar had flooded.

We travelled to visit family with small children and needed a self-catering base near Lucerne. This place was ideal. Our apartment was huge with everything you could need. There's a nice little pool (bit on cool side for babies) and grounds, with a small play area at the cafe located nextdoor. The kids loved paddling at the little beach and drawing in the sand.

This place is ideally located as the train station is a short walk away. We enjoyed spotting geckos and spring flowers along the way. The transport museum is worth a visit and hugely interactive for little children (30SF per adult - everything is expensive in Switzerland!) It has a Lido located next door which I imagine would be fun in summer.

There is also a dinosaur park a short drive away. Lucerne is three stops on train (again train travel is dearer than UK). The views across the lake to the mountains are stunning. We enjoyed listening to the cow bells from the hill behind our apartment.

Downsides: The Swiss Chalet is located on a busy road. This makes it slightly noisy at times and means taking extra care kids don't run out on way to breakfast, as the restaurant door is very close to the road.

Also, the breakfast room is quite small and we were conscious of being the loudest ones there at times. I did not like the sign that said 'do not take items from the breakfast table or we will charge you extra.' If I have paid for my breakfast, I expect to be able to take the odd banana or unfinished croissant which my toddler refuses to eat there and then. I think common sense should prevail here rather than an unwelcoming note.

If you do not like people walking over your heads at night, I suggest asking for a top floor room. Rooms got terribly hot as well but we did not feel able to leave windows open all night as we were on ground floor. Go top floor!

This hotel was awesome! The hotel was like being in a storybook , it was very enchanting. We had dinner at the restaurant across the street (also the same company). Was excellent dinner but slightly overpriced! The service was perfect and some of the best we have ever had if not the best ever! We highly highly recommend this hotel and if we are ever in Switzerland again we will stay there for sure!

This hotel was AWESOME! We arrived late and the staff were so happy, nice , and welcoming . Especially the two gals working the front desk that evening. They made sure that we had everything that our family needed. The hotel itself was like being in a storybook , it was very enchanting. The pool was warm :) We had dinner at the restaurant across the street (also the same company) and it was the best dinner we have ever had! The service was perfect and some of the best we have ever had if not the best ever!! They also bought us out complimentary seasonal soup that was so delicious. Breakfast was great the next morning with a good variety of things to choose from . We highly highly recommend this hotel and if we are ever in Switzerland again we will stay there for sure! They are super family friendly and just a wonderful hotel!

Room Tip: pick a room with a water view:)

We have just returned from our holiday in Switzerland. We stayed at the Swiss Chalet for one night whilst on our way to Interlarken. I have booked a double room with a shared bathroom however upon checking in we were given our own bathroom which would have cost an additional £30 which was a great start.

I had expected a double bed but we were given two twin beds pushed together. At first I was a little disappointed but actually it was kind of nice having your own bed. The room was very Swiss and was wood from floor to ceiling but it gave the room character and it made us feel like the holiday had started.

The staff were amazing and very friendly. There are two separate hotels, the Schloss Hotel and the Swiss Chalet. You check-in at the Schloss Hotel. We found out that although we were staying in the Swiss Chalet across the road we could still enjoy the facilities at the main hoteland got to use the swimming and sauna which were pure luxury. And because of the time of year, we had the pool and sauna all to ourselves.

The only slight negative is because the Swiss Chalet is pure wood, it is very noisy. You can hear everything, fortunately we didn't have anyone above us but I could understand from other reviews this could be a problem. But we had been up since 1 in the morning to catch our flight so it didn't effect me much.

We loved this place and will definitely return for another over night stop.

I have recently stayed at this hotel with my husband or our one week stay in Switzerland. The hotel is only a 5 minute walk from the train station of Merlischachen. We had our room upgraded and this was wonderful. The rooms are very clean and breakfast was great with a good choice of cereals, bread, ham and cheese, jams, sweets and juices. Dinner is good if you opt to eat there however prices are on the high side. However all in all hotel is lovely and very worth it. Its worth to mention too that hotel has a swimming pool and a sauna.
