“Decent Beachfront Resort”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2009

My teenage son and I recently spent a short 2 day weekend staying at the Hilton Singer Island resort. We were down visiting relatives who live right on Singer Island, otherwise I would never stay at this location, since I find it to be awkwardly located, and frankly a bit in the middle of nowhere. It does have one nice thing going for it, being right on a lovely beach, with the rooms and public access extremely close and convenient to the beach. Just outside the main restaurant on the lobby level is a Caribbean-style beachfront shack where it is convenient to grab a cocktail or snack. They do charge for use of the beach loungers, which is something I have never fully understood. The Hilton is reasonably priced, and the rooms are decent-sized, relatively clean and comfortable, if a bit in need of updating. A major peeve of mine is that there was no in-room safe, for storage of valuables. I did get an Oceanfront room and the view was outstanding. Free parking is very convenient right in front of the hotel so there is no need to pay for valet. Service is decent, and the Concierge was helpful in tracking down a rental camcorder I needed. I have previously stayed next door at the Resort at Singer Island which is nicer and more upscale but can be considerably more expensive unless you luck into a "deal". Most of the time, the Hilton will offer better value, especially for a short stay.

This is a great hotel. The manager upgraded our room to the 8th floor with an ocean view. It was spectacular! We could see the pool & the intercoastal, as well from our balcony. We'd heard they had recently completed renovations throughout the hotel - and you could really tell in the room. The bed was incredibly comfortable, I wished we could have stayed in it all day! The bathroom was nicely appointed, good shower, curtain & nice towels (no funky smell like in some hotels). Nice flat screen TV. Had dinner in the bar so we could see the entertainer (solo musician, great show). Although the breakfast buffet looked very good, we split an omelet before leaving to play golf. It was excellent. Found the staff very accommodating & helpful, with the possible exception of the evening bar staff. Everyone else was just great! The hotel has a beautiful beach, a lovely pool & plenty of parking. Workout area looked small, but clean & adequate. Would definitely stay there again.

  • Liked — Comfortable bed.
  • Disliked — Inattentive evening bar staff (not bad, but not great).

Stayed here in August of 2008. I really liked this hotel. I had a stressful week prior to this stay and really was able to relax in the three days that I spent here. The hotel is sitting right on the beach so you can just walk out of your room (by the way, most rooms are partial ocean view because of the the way the building is positioned) and be at the beach within a minute.

The beach was largely empty when I stayed (might have had something to do with approaching hurricane though). The chairs and umbrellas are for rent which is annoying but not unexpected.

I really enjoyed the service at this hotel. The front desk staff was particularly courteous and helpful. I definitely recommend this hotel if you are looking for a pleasant vacation at the beach.

One thing to be aware of is that there are a lot of buildings being built/remodeled and so they may be some construction noise going on (call and ask).

Oh, and while in town, check out the Lion Country Safari - this must be where many hilarious AFV videos of animals licking/attacking cars are filmed!

My husband and I came upon this hotel by chance, as we could not stay where we originally planned. My husband worked long hours in Fort Lauderdale the previous week, so we were looking for a mini getaway before heading back home. Our room overlooked the beach on the 8th floor, and we had a step-out balcony. It was clean and the bed was very comfortable. The front desk manager, David, was extremely helpful and accomodating. The beach was lovely, although the sun started going behind buildings around 4pm. Complimentary bottled water and freshly popped popcorn in the lobby (during a big football game) were offered to guests. The restaurant, Coconuts, had a great brunch (although fairly expensive). We will definitely be coming back to this Hilton in the future.

The goal was to vacation, with my two daughters, somewhere warm. My requirements were fairly specific- A name-brand hotel that was affordable, on the ocean, with a pool and near West Palm Beach, FL. We have relatives in West Palm Beach and needed to be within easy driving distance, but far enough away to keep our sanity. After considerable searching on the internet including looking over Trip Advisor I settled on the Hilton Singer Island Oceanfront Resort. We were not disappointed with our selection and would recommend this hotel to others.

The hotel appears to have been built in the 60’s, but has undergone extensive renovations inside and out. We booked an Oceanfront room with two double beds and had a rollaway bed delivered. This made for some tight accommodations since the room was small and necessitated folding the rollaway up in the day and rolling the bed to the corner of the room. Still, the room was adequate for sleeping since we spent most of our waking time at the beach, traveling or visiting. The room came with a large flat-screen TV and a small refrigerator filled with drinks for purchase. Unfortunately, there was no room in this refrigerator for our drinks. I suspect that if we asked for a refrigerator, the hotel would have provided one for our use. There was no microwave unit and the wireless service cost $9.95/day.

The room and hotel were well kept and clean, with excellent housekeeping service. The staff was friendly and prompt to respond all requests. The view from our balcony was quite nice as it overlooked the pool and more importantly the ocean. The guest demographics consisted of older retired couples and families with young children. There were a few younger couples with no kids. There were limited activities and these were only available on the weekend (yoga and crafts). The hotel has a small gift shop, an outside bar, an inside bar and a restaurant. The restaurant was OK for appetizers and sandwiches, but expensive for entrees. The pool was nice, but the ocean was fantastic. The temperature of the ocean was ~75F with moderate waves. One could walk out quite far and still stand. The hotel beach was sandy and well maintained. For a fee, you can rent a beach chair or lounge-chair. I opted to spend $10 at Publix for a cheap beach chair and carry this between my room and the beach. Pool chairs are provided for free, but are quickly commandeered by guests and must be grabbed by mid-morning. The hotel does provide beach and pool towels for free, but tended to run out on the weekends, by the end of the day.

Unless you intend to be a total captive of the hotel, you will need a car to get around. To the north-west is Riviera and I do not recommend that you stop and visit here. Heading south on the main road will bring you to the Garden mall and other shopping areas. We spent half our time eating in the Garden mall area and the rest of our time grabbing appetizers at the hotel. Consider that condominiums in this area can cost $2.5 million, and contrast that to staying at the Hilton for $139-$189/day and have the same view and access makes this is a great deal.

  • Liked — Location, location, location, cleanliness, service and cost.
  • Disliked — Need a car.

We discovered the Hilton at Singer Island because we were flying out of West Palm Beach Airport--a very user-friendly airport that is worth the drive from the greater Ft. Lauderdale area. But, the hotel, where we stayed for one night after leaving a cruise ship, was also a gem!

As anyone who cruises knows, "cruise ships love you 'til the last day"...then they must make room for newly arriving guests. Consequently, one often finds oneself at a hotel early, hoping for an early check-in. When we arrived at the Hilton Singer Island at 10:30 in the morning, the staff sprang into action to try to place us in our room. They ascertained the available rooms from guests who had already departed, and the concierge asked the maid to do our room next...by 11:20 a.m. we were in our room! It may not always be so easy, but what impressed us was that the staff cared, and they made a genuine effort to get us settled as soon as possible.

For our last day in Florida we wanted a beach. The beach in front of this hotel was perfect. Yes, they charge for the use of the beach-beds but so do many hotels. It is easy to lie around the lovely pool and, when desired, stroll to the private beach area for a plunge into the ocean.

Lunch at the beachside resturaunt was great--nice food and friendly service. As we ate too much at lunch (then snoozed around the pool for the afternoon), for a much later dinner in our bathrobes in the room we ordered a room service pizza--which was delicious, the kitchen must have a pizza oven, and it was delivered hot and fresh.

The front desk supplies complimentary bottled water (we find the tap water in Florida has a strong taste) and bathrobes were in the room waiting for us.

The hotel is also close to the Gardens, an upscale shopping mall that we visited in the early evening after pool/ocean and before pizza. The Gardens has Nordstrom, Saks, Bloomingdales and Sears--for all tastes. Best, the hotel concierge had one of the bellmen takes us in the hotel courtesy van, and we took a flat-rate limo back to the hotel, also as arranged by the concierge.

Need I say that all staff were very helpful and courteous? They definitely were!

A nice room, comfortable bed, and good amenities for a reasonable price completes the picture. I have been critical of other hotels when deserved--see my review of the Ft. Lauderdale Gallery One Double Tree for example--but when praise is due, it should be given. We will definitely return to the Hilton on Singer Island, a very nice hotel.

  • Liked — A lovely beachfront hotel with excellent staff and service
  • Disliked — toilet did notflush properly, but that is easily fixed.

My wife and I have been staying at that hotel for over 15 years. It has changed names and became the Hilton. Over the years they have done a lot of work`to the hotel. I have never found it to be noisy, except for when there was work being done or work at surrounding properties. You will never go to any hotel and never stay without any noise. The pool is bigger than most places we have looked at. There are plenty of lounge chairs to sit at. Yes you have to rent beach chairs and what not, but that is not the hotel it is a private service that offers that. ALL of the staff, especially David at the front desk and Oskar the bellman are the best. Anything you need they will get for you. Yes the hotel is older than some, but there are a lot of places in the area that you cant afford and the Hilton looks very nice. The Resorts at Singer Island next door is very expensive to stay at, but if you want to be pampered at 300-400+ a night than thats where you go. The Hilton is a very safe hotel with police patrol and only had one problem there when it was the sunset Spree resort 15years ago. All of the staff at the bars are very nice and will enjoy a nice conversation with you, ask for Ed he is a great person and very friendly. If you go on business and have to leave your wife at the hotel she will be very safe alone, even taking long walks on the beach. We eat breakfast there a lot because it is easy to get to and than my wife can get out in the sun quickly. There are many great restaurants around within a 15-30 minute drive. YES< stay away south of the hotel at night over the Blue Heron bridge due to trouble with the locals in the area. They don't come near the hotel so don't worry.

I wouldn't judge the hotel by the bad reviews others left because some of them sound like they wont be happy anywhere.
Try it out and I am sure you would be happy.
