What a great little restaurant. We were looking for something off of the tourist path and certainly found it in Osteria Battaglino. I called to confirm they were open and my name was taken despite being assured a reservation was not necessary this evening. Upon arrival we were seated immediately and within a few minutes time the chef arrived to advise that they do not have an English menu, but he would explain all of the menu to us verbally. He did so without hesitation and we ordered primi dished of Spaghetti Bolognese and Fish Soup. The spaghetti was freshly made in house and along with the proper amount of sauce served, was fantastic. The Fish Soup was served with toasted bread laid upon it and the fish was fresh and clean tasting. For main dishes we had a lightly fried seafood platter that included Calamari, Shrimp, and two types of small fish. The seafood was fried in a light and flavorful batter that allowed the seafood to shine through. We also had a main of roasted veal, which was tender and had great flavor. We finished the meal with a chocolate custard and candied oranges. All of this combined with a great bottle of wine from a small local Cascina. Great atmosphere, service, and food. Not to be missed.
