Hotel itself ok for 3* but swimming pool belonged to hotel next door which was closed down. Taxi from airport cost 300 Euros. Not a very nice area at all, no where nice to eat or drink. Prostitutes around and gangs of lads which made it a bit scary. We moved hotels into Naples itself after two nights!

Dear Customer,
thank you for your review,
the pool is always part of one of our adjacent buildings, which for now is closed for renovation, but I assure you that it is always our property.
We always recommend guests to request a transfer from the airport that certainly has a different cost from taking a taxi, even if the distance is only 20km from the airport, for the rate that they requested it seems a little exaggerated, in how much a taxi transfer from the hotel to the hotel can pay € 80/90 at most, but taking our shuttle would have been more convenient, another thing as we are often advised is the car rental itself at the airport, which allows you to move with much more freedom.

The hotel staff are obviously trying their best but this IS NOT A TOURIST FRIENDLY AREA. The hotel is clean (if outdated) and passable. The pool is nice but belongs to a disused hotel next door. It wasn't a safe enough area to go out after dark and there were clearly prostitutes working up the road. The beach isn't too far away but we were accosted when walking down the quiet road to get there. There is rubbish everywhere and nothing to do. On Sunday we resorted to ordering pizza in the hotel as everything in walking distance was closed. I wouldn't want anyone else to feel that they had wasted their holiday as I do - it wasn't worth the time off work or the money.

Also - the transfer from the airport was awful - the driver was clearly at 120 mph and texting. We got public transport back to the airport but it took hours - local bus, train, airport bus.

Good bits: small clean hotel, good breakfast (including lots of cakes), staff helpful lent us a kettle and free late check out. Sat TV (need to adjust to English through settings menu), fridge in room, free Wi-Fi.
free underground car park. Pool was open and clean during our stay (sept 2017).
Bad bits: dated décor, toilet flush not working property, loose toilet seat, pull cord for curtains broken (could not pull them), mould in shower. No safe. noisy road at front, old court yard at rear. Pool behind disused hotel next door. Bar, pool bar and snacks /food/restaurant not available during our stay (closed in Aug). Local dogs barking on and off all day.
Area: Not much locally: must have a car. Beach Ok (cost 4 euro for
sunbed) 20-30 mins walk. not a pleasant walk past rubbish, dog poo and down a desolate road. Prostitutes on street corners 4pm onwards. No where to eat at lunchtime within walking distance. Nothing else to do close by to hotel. Only a couple of places to eat within walking distance at night but not safe area to walk in at night especially for females. Car theft common not safe to park on streets overnight. Each restaurant has parking attendant to check cars don't get stolen and require tip at end of evening. All houses in area have security gates, cameras, grills and guard dogs. This is not a safe area, it is deprived and crime is high (advised not to walk around at night).

Room Tip: roms at back are quiter

Firstly, I dont want to upset anyone, I have never done a review in my life until now! I went with my daughter on holiday and when we arrived at the hotel, the staff and little to no English speaking skills. (My Italian was not good enough. However we used google translate. The hotel did not have a shuttle service, when we were there from Sept! YOU really need car from the airport! We asked for some info on the area, where to eat, beach etc..Its not walking distance, unless you dont mind walking for 40 mins! When I mentioned where to go for dinner, the receptionist said in broken English, "No walking, anywhere at night, its dangerous" we could see it was a very run down town, no local shops except one restaurant, supermarket. Also it is opposite the army police and overnight lock up jail! Prostitutes walk the street at night and cars racing 24hrs down the road! We made the most of it, but as said by one couple, "Its a strange play" If you drive a car, roads are crazy, but thats to be expected in Italy! The
car rental company, Europe Cars and the rest, will not insure the car for theft in that area of Giugliano. And the hotel is bang in the middle. Sorry but I will never recommend this hotel or area at all.
p.s there was soooooo much rubbish and graffiti everywhere, buildings, paths, roads beach everywhere and alot of drug traffic too! Very unclean

Room Tip: Dont book! or go on holiday around that area!

The Hotel Orchidea is a lovely little hotel which has friendly, but laid back staff, is spotlessly clean, offers a lovely continental breakfast and has a large pool with plenty of sun beds. The hotel is away from the tourist parts of Naples, although there is a lovely beach a 30 minute stroll away. In fact we thought this hotel was a little gem, and we are so glad we found it!

This hotel is like Marmite - you will either love it or hate it! We absolutely loved it because we did all our holiday research before booking it, and used it only to sleep, eat breakfast and use the pool on several ocassions, as we wanted to visit many of the wonderful sites around Naples. It is away from crowds of tourists, which suited us, it has a large pool, often with no other guests around it, which was great as you get a choice of sun beds! It will cost you between €60 - €100 for a taxi each way from/to Naples Airport and the hotel, so we booked a hire car from the UK for our 12 days before flying which cost us €140 - so cheaper to have your own car! We collected and returned the car to Naples Airport, so very easy.

If you wish to see some of the sites around Naples, it is essential to hire a car, but beware, as driving in Italy is not for the faint hearted! Italians drive and ride motor bikes like lunatics, so you need to fully concentrate and be aware of other road users around you!

Overall this hotel provides great value for money, especially if you don't like being surrounded by crowds of foreign tourists when you wish to relax every which way you turn, and providing you have a hire car if you want to see some of the attractions around Naples and the Amalfi Coast. Highly recommended for adventurous tourists but not for people watching, hotel tourists!
