“Quick Family Break”

We booked a 3 night break in the hotel having stayed here a number of years ago for a summer vacation. Our experience then was good and again we were not let down. Our welcome on arival was warm, the suite we got was fantastic, two bathrooms with plenty of room and spotlessly clean. The hotel was quiet but you would expect this mid week in November, but this suited us perfectly. The indoor pool and spa were wonderfull with very friendly staff. We will definitely return, hopefully next time for a longer break

This hotel is (almost) what you would expect from a 4 star rating - the rooms/hotel interior & all staff (service) were excellent. It is modern relaxing and very close to the golf club (Bonalba) which we were playing at - (I will review the club in a separate review), we had booked this years trip later than normal (by about 2 weeks) which may explain the fact that we almost had the hotel to ourselves! The only downside to our hotel experience was the chioce of food - the quality of its presentation (mostly cold!) & when one of our party complained on this matter to the hotel manager by completing the satisfaction form - he advised that we could have asked the staff to re-heat it!!! On our final day we were given a treat? the breakfast fare and evening fare was warm and we were given free after dinner coffee. If it had not been for this disapointing food aspect I would have not hesitated to have awarded the hotel a full five rating

Well this is a lovely hotel, the rooms were really spacious and the bathroom a really good size, the only thing that let them down was the service. We arrived on saturday afternoon and went to the room unpacked and went for a look around, we found the bar and thought we would have a drink, well this was a really long wait, there was only one person serving and we thought this is not a good start. Food was ok in the dining room but was not very warm.
Come monday the hotel was empty hardly anyone staying, so the meals were served in the small dining room, there was a menu this time with three choices, the food was good but not what we wanted for a lunch, so we asked if we could have the club sandwich or the burgers and chips which were on the bar snacks, we were told no not until the lunch service was over, which was 3.30. The evening meals we had to wait a long time for as come 8 they had no menus..off they went looking for them so by 8.45 they were found.
There was no sky tv either so we found a bar at the top of the road that had uk tv and served up snacks, Georges Bar run by a really lovely english couple who were very helpful and lent us a couple of maps of the area.
This hotel has obvioulsy not listened to the comments of Alistair and Steve who also commented on the food being just warm. The pool is great but the golf course was a bit ropey, the fairways good but the greens no, just piles of sand everywhere.
All in all we did enjoy our stay and would probably go back if the food was a lot hotter.

Room Tip: we asked for a room overlooking the golf course, if youstay at the fron of the hotel there is nothin...

I had definetely wonderful and most relexible holiday. Eth was fantastic! I went Bonalba with my girlfriend to enjoy my vacation. I was looking for a place which looked like quite, calm and relaxing away from normal lives. And then I found hotel Bonalba, so I went there. As I expected it was amazing. Every employers were so kind even though I was not good as Spanish. Especially swimming pool in front of the hotel was so charming. What it made more attractive was the view which I saw while I was lying on the chairs. It is not too far away from the city, and because the hotel offers shuttle bus, it is also easy to enjoy Alicante and San Juan beach anytime you want. Also, Mexican night which is held every Friday was totally new and fresh experiences to me. I was fully charmed with this hotel. If I get a chance to travel Spain again, I will definetely go back to this hotel.

Well I have to say this was certainly interesting. The positive points are that it is a nice hotel with lovely rooms and it has a lovely pool though the sun beds are gone by 8am! The spa is also nice with some good treatments on offer.

The negative points is that some of the staff (inlcuding the manager) are not very friendly to the English at all and not enough staff there either so there were always long queues at the bar. They make no effort to talk to you in English but thankfully I could speak Spanish which was a relief. Also Spanish guests just push in and do not respect a queuing system! Several times we had our drinks cleared whilst getting our puddings despite all our belongings being on the table which quite frankly was annoying as we had to buy more.

The hotel says it is for all nationalities but we and two other families were the only English there and the hundreds of others were mainly Spanish and French. They advertise to say there is kids club. Yes there is but all activities were in Spanish and they made no effort to involve the English children. Again all evening entertainment was in Spanish so the poor English kids did not understand. Evening cinema- guess what it is in Spanish! So again my children missed out! Also no english channels on the TV.

They advertise there are 3 restaurants but you can only eat on either the full board or the All inclusive restaurant. (AI had three times more food to choose from). Food was pretty hit and miss. Some was delicious other times it was naff and nothing kid friendly.

I didn't mind this being away from the beach and the main strip of Alicante but the website says you get free shuttle bus to take you there. In fact you have to pay 7 euros each even for the toddlers just to get there and back! This was a bit naughty!

Overall I would not go back there due to them not being friendly toward us also very poor wifi in the hotel. You can get a cable from reception to plug in your room though

First thing first: definitely hire a car, it's not miles out but getting taxis back and forth is a pain. There is a shuttle that the Hotel operate but we didn't think it offered enough convenience. The Hotel is great, we got a good deal for 4 nights via Travel Republic. The rooms were very clean and accommodating with a nice big bathroom, comfortable firm mattress, decent sized LCD tv, and little balcony. I wasn't expecting much to be honest so I was pleasantly surprised. Everything was in working condition and most importantly clean. The shower was powerful for all those who fear the trickling shower!

Being English it was nice not to be surrounded by other English people. The vast majority of people there were Spanish on holiday with their family (quite a few kids around, so sometimes the pool was a little noisy) and then the other most common nationality was French. I think my girlfriend and I were the only English people there. The Hotel staff speak English though so don't worry about that.

Food was probably the only thing that let the hotel down, hence my 4 stars instead of 5. Although the breakfast offered a lot of choice, the quality wasn't amazing, especially for the cooked food. The sausages they had weren't nice, and often the other food like beans, egg, etc was luke warm. Despite this they had a nice selection of fresh melon and other fruit, lovely fresh bread, and plenty of yoghurts, fruit juice, jams etc. We didn't eat dinner there based on other reviews about food plus the fact we were only B&B and wanted to eat out in Alicante (which offers a lot of choice by the way, in particular try El Canto, it's fantastic).

All-in-all a very enjoyable and pleasant stay at a good price. Recommended to all those looking for a good Hotel to stay in. If you golf there is plenty of courses there, and although I didn't play they looked very reasonable. Just don't play in the middle of the day in August as it's 34C!

Room Tip: Ask for rooms facing the pool, much nicer view than looking out from the front of the hotel.

I have stayed at this hotel since it's opening in 2006, and until this year have always been pleased...............things have changed!
The hotel has reduced its prices considerably recently - and of course it attracts a different client base, with different expectations - What seems to have evolved is a corresponding change in the quality, integrity and ability of the staff (on the 'plus' side however there is a very varied and colourful range of tattoos constantly on display along with a constant backdrop of equally colourful, vulgar and disgusting language..............by staff and guests !). This is complemented by lots of ‘day visitors’ who can now pay a few Euros to come in and take all the available loungers, get sloshed – and laugh about ‘topping up the pool’.
I reserved a 'deluxe' room - Knowing the hotel and the rooms, as soon as I entered the room I realised it was not the deluxe spec at all, the staff on reception discussed between themselves (in Spanish) the options and between them decided to tell me in English that this was in fact my mistake (I speak fluent Spanish (live in S America) and was outraged by their intended deception ........ but I let them continue. I then asked if I could see a 'basic' room - Ahhhh Sir, ''we don't have basic rooms anymore'' was the reply. I then spoke to them in their own language and of course their embarrassment was difficult to hide - they apologised, invited me and my wife to have a drink and dinner f.o.c. whilst they sorted something out. What was 'sorted' was an appearance from a 'tiny' Basil Fawlty type - who simply stated that if we didn't like it, that we should go somewhere else (it was approaching midnight by this time !), of course, I bit my lip and we stayed. The next day I was told that as soon as another room was available we would be 'upgraded', this likewise never happened (nor do I believe it was ever a genuine offer).
I am a professional - I am always polite and courteous and rarely lose my temper. My good nature and demeanour were quite simply taken advantage of. There was never an issue of cost, simply that I expected what I had booked – and there was only ‘dismay’ that I would not take a discount / better offer next time ...............there will be no next time.
I have never written a bad review, this is the first and I hope the last. If you are looking for ‘cheap’ this certainly fits the bill, and it is clean – the food however is in keeping with the rest of the changes: awful !!! What a shame that the management have decided to ruin what was once a quality resort.

I would like to let you know that when we finished to read you review we really are not sure when you stayed in our hotel, as you mention you are visiting our hotel from 2006 and the hotel really opened in 2007. We hope you made a mistake otherwise you are talking about another hotel.

First of all and following your comments about the different kind of rooms we have in the hotel we would like to let know all the tripadvisor members that in hotel Bonalba Alicante we have several kind of rooms: Double Deluxe Rooms (25 square metres) and Junior Suite (35 square metres with an extra dining room) and we also have Famiy Rooms and Royal Duplex Suite. If you are interested you can book direct to our booking department and they will inform you with all the diference between them.

We really regret about your disagreement about the room you booked but I can guarantee that that the receptionist accomodated you in the room you booked.

We also would like to let you know that we take note from your comments and we would like to let know all the tripadvisor members that we have quality system to know the satisfaction from our guest in the same hotel with quality questionaires and quality questionaires in the restaurant that all our guest can full fill in the same moment that they are in the hotel.
