“nice quite Hotel”
Reviewed March 19, 2013

this is a place to go if you feel molested by badly educated children in other spanish places!
I hope the owners continue to keep it a quite peaceful place without low level families.
we always enjoy nice quiet places and can recomend it for people who want to avoid badly educated noisy guests! Nice view and nice nature! Keep it as it is !

WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!

We chose this hotel especially for it’s remoteness, spa and reputation, as the perfect place to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We decided to arrive at lunchtime so that we could eat on the terrace and then enjoy the spa before settling into our room. Unfortunately, on arrival we were told that the kitchen wasn’t open and that we would have to go the local village nearly 2km away but we were still asked to book a table if we wished to eat in the restaurant in the evening. The spa was a real let down as the pool was so cold, the Jacuzzi tepid and the sauna wasn’t working properly.

In the evening, we came down to eat and, on commenting on the fact that the hotel was very quiet, we were told we were the only couple staying in the hotel. Because they had been very busy over the week end with a wedding, there was only one receptionist on duty to cover reception, bar and restaurant, and the chef had been given the day off. The food we received was actually very good, but it didn’t make up for the fact that the service was provided by a member of staff who’s first words were that she wasn’t trained and didn’t know what she was doing.

Any request for assistance was preceded by a mystery tour around the hotel trying to find her. We felt that our enjoyment and expectation had been hugely compromised by the fact that there was no staff to provide any level of service. As a four star hotel charging nearly 200€ per night we found it totally unacceptable and it spoiled our stay so much we decided that we didn’t want to stay for our second night and would leave the following day.

We spoke to one of the owners in the morning and tried to negotiate a suitable reduction on our bill befitting what we felt was a complete lack of service which ruined our special occasion. Unfortunately, he was totally intransigent and all he would do was discount 24€ for the spa and graciously not charge us for the night that we were not staying.

I am sure that with enough people staying at the hotel to warrant it being fully staffed, and the spa and pool working correctly, that it will be a lovely place to stay. But, judging by our experience, please make sure you are not the ONLY people staying in the hotel because you won't get a four star experience.

This was a last minute booking to relax after the children and grandchildren had gone home. We booked in for two nights but stayed for four.

The hotel has striking views to the South, goat herds regularly pass by, the gardens are well maintained, the outdoor pool of good size (ie suitable for lengths) as was the indoor poll which we did not use. The tennis court (hard court) was well maintained. The 'gym' let the other leisure facilities down as it is but a small room with minimal equipment - but why use a gym when there is so much outside? Towards the end of August the hotel was virtually empty and we enjoyed almost personal service. Most of the staff spoke good or passable English, except for one evening when none did so! The food was of a good standards with excellent service - we eat out one evening in the village of La Joya one kilometre away.

We booked an Imperial Suite - we believed we deserved some luxury and the cost was only 180 euros B&B (standard rooms were 90 euros, or as low as 70 euros from some on-line sites). For this we got a very large living room, a bedroom with a seven foot bed, a very large bathroom with a round jacuzzi big enough for two people, and a terrace large enough to have a party on, and with excellent views. The room had air conditioning which we used only once for a few hours as generally the room was a comfortable temperature.

Although the mountain roads are twisting, the surfaces are excellent with room for two cars to pass. There is plenty to do in the area - we drove to the Torcal of Antequera for a walk around the unique geology, sent half a day with the excellent audio guide of the Alcazaba in Antequera, and undertook an ascent of Camorro Alto (1378 metres). We also took a tour of the nearby lagoons, but not worth it in mid-Summer. Towns such as Ronda are within easy travelling distance and there is a local wolf farm.

We commented that it would be an excellent location for a marriage (they have a large function room) and we were therefore amused that evening to meet a couple spending their first anniversary there, having married there the year before.

Definitely a location which we will remember and may even return to.

Had a fantastic time just relaxing and soaking in the spectacular views. The food was simply amazing, some of the best I have had in Spain. Cannot recommend this hotel enough. It was one of the best stays anywhere in the world, during our 7 week honeymoon. I would go back again in a heartbeat.

This is a review only of the restaurant as we did not stay overnight. The place is very remote and a very considerable drive from the main cities; the building is very nicely modernised, though when we visited had a very deserted feel. Food was nice and pleasantly served, though nothing outstanding; some dishes were felt to lack seasoning/dressing and also to lack care and attention. Others seemed fine. None seemed outstanding or brilliant. At roughly €40 per head for three courses and a bottle of wine shared between four, by local standards it is not cheap, and there are many places we would prefer to eat at in the area. It did not apply to us, but many items on the menu are 'starred' as being at extra cost when you book full or half board. For a relaxing break it is probably very nice. Will we return ? Probably not - not because anything was bad, but because of the long drive and we know of better or more interesting places to eat.

This hotel was very comfortable and the staff friendly. Found the indoor spa pool very good. Our room was a good size , underfloor heating except in the bathroom and the jazacci bath was great. The only thing missing was a screen/curtain for the shower, as the water from the shower tended to flood the bathroom. Nice quiet rural location. All in all a very pleasant stay.
