“Beautiful hotel”
Reviewed September 11, 2012

We stayed over for one night at this hotel during a 3 week road trip around Spain. The hotel is a truly beautiful old building with a mirador (viewpoint) on the top that looks out over the surrounding town and countryside. The rooms are very clean & comfortable and the staff very polite and friendly. We liked it so much that we decided to eat here in the evening, the restaurant looked very nice. The problem was the food! It was so unpalatable that none of us could eat our main course. There was nothing actually wrong with it - the Spanish eat this stuff all the time - but it just wasn't to our British taste. What 2 of us ordered was Pork and Asparagus - what we got was balls of slimy fat in a horrible tangy orange sauce which made us feel quite ill... not an asparagus in sight! The manager did come out and speak to us to ask if the food was ok and why we hadn't eaten it so we were honest with him that we just didn't like it & he was very apologetic. We ended up in a bar in the square with beers and some crisps - far nicer!

The hotel has a car park, a swimming pool and rooms have air con. The car park costs 7 Euro per day and it's advised to use it as there is no parking outside the hotel and the square is usually full of cars so finding anywhere else safe to park wouldn't be easy. There's also a bar and a nice large central hall area where you can sit and enjoy a beer or a coffee. Breakfast wasn't outstanding but it was adequate - it has to be paid for seperately. For all that, this is a superb hotel so deserves a good score, I wouldn't hesitate to return here, I'd just go somewhere else to eat.

The walled town of Llerena is well off the tourist trail and a really nice place to visit, it has a lovely old square with an ancient church but not much happens here. It's a great place to sit at a bar with a few beers watching the world (such as it is here) go by. The crisps are great too.

Looking for a pit stop and the Net suggested the place.
Great value for money. Spacious room with large, well equipped bathroom.
The menu de degustacion was excellent.
The town is full of history and deserves a long visit.
Look forward to try the other Hospederias de Extremadura.

One of the small chain of Hospederias de Extremadura, which I think are the regional Government's answer to Paradors, and definitely worth going out of your way for. The Mirador is a beautifully converted 19th C small 'palace' with very comfortable, spacious rooms, and attractive pool area, and a smart restaurant where we thoroughly enjoyed a high-quality dinner (choice in each course); amazing that the half-board rate for two for all this came in at only €80. A few metres away is the stunning main square - not touristy at all. The streets are very narrow, so worth spending the extra €7 on garage parking. NB the free wifi doesn't reach the bedrooms.

Arrival in very bad weather: poor personnel has to sit in very cold and windy entrance; no doors to protect them. Fantastic patio with magnificent decoration; room like a hospital for disabled: clean, sterile, cold decoration (avoid room 110).
Bathroom for disabled people (is positive).
Shower without curtain: bathroom totally wet after first shower: wife was in killing mode. But then she also discovered the non working thermostat of the shower and she refused to shower, as the water stayed cold. Thermostat needs urgent replacement; shower curtain is a must; also disabled people deserve a curtain and a dry bath room.
Heating of rooms totally under-dimensioned; even next morning the room was so cold that I had to put on my street shoes in the bath room.
Dinner was disappointing: quality was OK, but quantity was far too low (all our friends agreed).
Breakfast was disappointing: bread and pastry not fresh, little choice, very small room with long cues, lousy coffee in a self-serving machine; no possibility top get a real strong good fresh espresso.
Other friends (group of 14 persons used to high quality hotels and restaurants) agreed that they were happy to leave the hotel, with similar ratings.
