We stayed over for one night at this hotel during a 3 week road trip around Spain. The hotel is a truly beautiful old building with a mirador (viewpoint) on the top that looks out over the surrounding town and countryside. The rooms are very clean & comfortable and the staff very polite and friendly. We liked it so much that we decided to eat here in the evening, the restaurant looked very nice. The problem was the food! It was so unpalatable that none of us could eat our main course. There was nothing actually wrong with it - the Spanish eat this stuff all the time - but it just wasn't to our British taste. What 2 of us ordered was Pork and Asparagus - what we got was balls of slimy fat in a horrible tangy orange sauce which made us feel quite ill... not an asparagus in sight! The manager did come out and speak to us to ask if the food was ok and why we hadn't eaten it so we were honest with him that we just didn't like it & he was very apologetic. We ended up in a bar in the square with beers and some crisps - far nicer!
The hotel has a car park, a swimming pool and rooms have air con. The car park costs 7 Euro per day and it's advised to use it as there is no parking outside the hotel and the square is usually full of cars so finding anywhere else safe to park wouldn't be easy. There's also a bar and a nice large central hall area where you can sit and enjoy a beer or a coffee. Breakfast wasn't outstanding but it was adequate - it has to be paid for seperately. For all that, this is a superb hotel so deserves a good score, I wouldn't hesitate to return here, I'd just go somewhere else to eat.
The walled town of Llerena is well off the tourist trail and a really nice place to visit, it has a lovely old square with an ancient church but not much happens here. It's a great place to sit at a bar with a few beers watching the world (such as it is here) go by. The crisps are great too.
