“Super friendly and helpful staff at Bamboo Paradise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 10, 2012

Bamboo Paradise in Padangbai is in a good location and the room I stayed in was clean and comfortable. It had a TV (which I didn't use) and the setting of the guesthouse is also nice with a good communal area outside but undercover and a nice restuarant area. The staff couldn't have been more helpful, I asked about buying a simcard and was taken to the shop by one of the staff rather than just being directed. Nothing was too much trouble. Great breakfast options to pick from included in the room rate, a good budget option at 150,000 per night.

Clean, comfortable room with good breakfast and friendly host - great value. The water switch isn't THAT annoying and although you do get a lot of noise from the port it is probably quieter than the rest of Padangbai as it is a little bit out of town). Would definitely stay again / recommend to friends.

Ayu (not sure of spelling) who runs this place is super friendly and has genuine interest in getting to know guests. Unfortunately we only stayed one night instead of four as planned because the rooms were not quite as expected / described. We would of loved to stay here because of the wonderful hospitality we received. If only a few of the items from below were addressed...

The rooms are clean & spacious but are tired. Some of our challenges were:
- Every time you need to use the water, you must flick on a switch located just outside on the patio before and after. This switch is shared between four different rooms so it's not uncommon for someone to switch off the water while you're in the shower, etc. Sometimes the water for the toilet did not flush even when switched on. There is a bucket & pail for you to use however for the price you are paying for accommodations, I don't think you should have to. This may be OK if staying for one night but more of a nuisance for longer stays.
- All the sockets in our room were very loose which made it very challenging to charge things such as computers, cameras, etc.
- Paid extra for a room with a TV and DVD player. There was no cable and only a couple of DVDs.
- Wifi in the room was very weak (only a problem since we need to back things up during the evening)

We liked the location. It was quiet (with the exception of the call to prayer early in the morning and the intercom communications from the harbour), only a few minutes from the white sand beach, up the road from the small morning market and anywhere from  5 - 15 minutes to the harbor, restaurants & Blue Lagoon beach which is great for snorkeling.

Breakfast was good with your choice of meal, all coming with fruit salad and hot drink.

We stayed 3 nights in Padangbai while sightseeing the region and before leaving to Lombok. This homestay is really value for money! Double bed, own bathroom with hot water (don't forget to put the hot water on outside), fan and even AC when needed. Also the breakfast was very nice. It's really in the middle of the real padangbai life. The owners are very helpfull and friendly. They can arrange for tickets to the Gilis and Lombok, and I wished we had done so, since we ended up with much more expensive ones. Location is also good, only a couple of minutes walk from the beach (over the hill next to the house). On the beach there are some warungs for lunch and drinks. At night, there are plenty of small restaurants is the little streets of Padangbai. I think this village is a real find - life on a slow pace.

we didn't plan it, but we stayed twice in "bamboo paradise" - on our way to the gili's & back. we really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere in padang bai & in this nice guesthouse with its lovely owner ayu :-) we had a spacious & clean rooms with aircon, fridge (!) & outdoor bathroom (with tub!). prices were very modest (ask for discount in low season) & service was great. "bamboo" is just steps away from town, restaurants, harbour. also white & looooong black sand beach are close (5-10). in general, it's a great place to explore surroundings. we did it all by foot ;-) in short: we highly recommend bamboo! thank you & see you again next time - ayu, sweet dog sammy & room maid!!!

Planned to stay here for one night on the way to the Gili's but ended up staying 4 nights overall. The owners and their dog are super friendly and very welcoming - they'll do anything to help you.

Stayed in a double room on my own & received a discount for being on my own and because of low occupancy. I paid IDR150,000 per night (usually 225) including Air Con, Hot Water and Breakfast. Rooms were of good size and seemed very new and up to date. It's one of the more expensive options in Padang Bai for sure, but still good value when you compare the quality of accommodation.

The only thing missing was WiFi internet - Had to walk down to the Zen Inn to get on the net - Althought the owners of Bamboo Paradise assured me they were getting WiFi soon (may already have it by now)

I've also stayed at the Zen Inn and the Marco Inn in Padang Bai - but would always choose Bamboo Paradise now. Marco Inn has friendly owners but the rooms are dated. Haven't got many good words to say about the Zen Inn at all other than it's highly overated since featuring in Lonely Planet!

Room Tip: If you travel outside of peak season, you may be able to get a discount - call or email in advance
