“what do you expect for your money”
Reviewed January 16, 2013

We have just returned from the hotel taurito after spending nine nights there we arrived home on 14th January. My wife and I had not been to this hotel before but had read many reviews before booking. many said the hotel was tired. Yes in places it is, but they are shutting in May for a complete revamp so should be pristine when it reopens. Many said the food was poor we found the food very varied and good although if you go in late in the evening the food is not piping hot. This was our first all inclusive and eating in the evenings was a bit like a cattle market with people rushing about and quite noisy, men have to wear trousers which I found annoying as it was very warm. The staff were excelent and couldnt do more for you. At lunchtimes the pool bar did snacks and salads with a chef on hand to cook you a toastie or burger etc. All drinks were self service with everything available. Both of us enjoy tennis and we were able to play every evening on one of the two table tennis tables, we also played tennis and never had trouble booking the court, however the court has seen better days with cracks in the tarmac giving a dodgy bounce, the netting around the court is bad and as the court is on the sixth floor quite often a ball will go through only to end up many floors down. At the end of the road a bus stops every 30 mins and for 2eu 80 you can go into Puerto Rico and retun to Mogan on the ferry 6 eu a lovely boat ride lasting about 30 mins. All in all we found the holiday incredible value and would definately go back again. For what you pay it is fantastic, and when its revamped it can only get better.

Room Tip: we had a room on 10th floor with no trouble from lifts

We travelled with Thompson's- never again. We will go back to this area flying with another company. The leg room is so tight one cannot pick an item up from the floor and the service and food on board poor.
The Thompson rep at the hotel was not that helpful about travel arrangements on the island, suggesting car hire as the only means to get to Las Palmas return......we found this to be incorrect the last night there.
The hotel is ok ....a bit tired but being refurbished. You need a sense of humour to enjoy the entertainment.
I was looking forward to fresh fish because of the location but this does not happen....most fish is highly salted and over cooked.
A sunny break we enjoyed.
The children's pool is not heated so they played on the edge to be told not spill the water about!

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room

My boyfriend & I arrived 31/12 with friends (8 in total) greeted by friendly efficient reception staff. New Year was approaching so we helped ourselves to the 'serve yourself bar' before going upto level 8, room 827. Fantastic view, immaculate, toiletteries for you and of course-your beach towels. You keep them for the duration of your stay (no towel change) 4 course meal with waiter service on the night, food 100% delicious! Entertainment was great with 'The Drifters' tribute act, unfortunatley the entertainment from here was poor and what can only be described high school drama groups?
Location is quiet although you can catch a bus a short walk away and visit other towns. Mogan market is on Fridays & closes at 2pm.
The weather was around 22-28 degrees, lovely sunbathing weather.
Great choice of food for the fussy eater to the more adventurous. Themed nights in the restaurant & book La Choza restaurant, beautiful food (waiter service)
You have a DR next to reception & plenty of shops for those forgotten items & postcards!
One last thing, there is disabled access throughout the hotel-easy to get around.
All in all a memorable holiday with my boyfriend and our great friends. You just can't beat a winter break. This hotel will have you relaxed from head to toe.

My wife, myself and son stayed at the Taurito Princess at the beginning of November 2012. I have never written comments about a hotel in my 35yrs of travelling but feel compelled on this occasion.
For a true reflection on this hotel, please refer to several comments listed at the end of September 2012 in particular the one dated 24 September 2012. This entry summarises the issues facing the hotel that are obviously deep rooted with none of them being addressed by either the staff or holiday companies? This is exactly what we experienced when we stayed there.
Do not be fooled by the good to excellent food rating this hotel has in the brochure, if good, tasty, well-cooked, well-presented fresh food is a valued part of your holiday experience DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL.
In addition to the entry on 24 September: tables were not cleaned away and crockery piled up as we ate, hot ‘fresh’ food was piled on top of cold ‘old’ food. Meat, chicken and even bread toasties were cooked on the same grill as fish giving everything a fishy taste.
Don’t bother to complain to the Thomson reps as one of them verbally abused my wife and I and refused to take a complaint. The other lied to us about various packages the hotel offer. My complaint so far to Thomson UK has fallen on deaf ears with their ‘general’ reply of ‘look at our food ratings in the brochure’. Upon complaining to the manager about bloody, raw chicken rather than address the issue his response was to suggest we should have ordered another?
DEFINITELY NOT 4 STAR: YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

At verry short notice we decided to go away for Christmas 2012 to try and find some sunshine and warmth, away from the dismal cold weather here in England. Well, we found it! We went to the Taurito Princess in Gran Canaria and had the most wonderful time basking in the sun in temperatures of between 20 and 24 degrees (just perfect). We have been to the hotel previously and it was as good this time as last, with the most beautiful marble throughout the entrance and bars. The food was good and there was ample to sate the most hungry appetite as you just helped yourself to whatever took your fancy. On Christmas Day they put on a Gala Dinner and really spoiled us. We didn't serve ourselves, we were allotted a table and the waiters served everyone. The food was lovely and the service brilliant. We felt really on top of the world. Our room was lovely which, as it says on the 'packet' every room overlooks the sea so we had a lovely view of the beach and the sea. The entertainment was great with a pianist who sang and played music which you could either join in with or dance to which was lovely. Alternatively there was an entertainment lounge on the first floor where different shows were put on each night, so all in all we had nothing to complain about. The swimming pool was good too although we didn't take a dip. There are 3 pools, one heater, one not heater and one for the children, so everyone was catered for. There were ample sun beds so you could always find somewhere to lay and just soak up the sun. Taurito itself is just a cove but it is very pretty with lots of lovely planting, public swimming and 'fun' areas and shops. The hotel runs a free bus service to Port Mogan which is stunning, very olde worlde near the marina with white painted buildings and small 'roads' inbetween which are all draped with gorgeous flowers. There are many shops, bars and restaurants with a wide range of different food and drink. Overlooking the marine, this particular area is stunning. Just along the sea front and around a corner is the beach which is lovely too. The sand is clean and the water safe for swimming so overall a lovely day out. Now the downside. As a wheelchair user, we found the access to the hotel extremely difficult as the slope was quite steep and very shiny which made it very slippery of the person pushing the wheelchair. Also, to get from the hotel onto the small promenade was extremely difficult as the only was onto it was via a rather deep step then a short but very steep slope. However, once over those obstacles then all was well.and you could walk around the whole cove but, again, some parts were not very wheelchair friendly. I understand the hotel is going to be refurbished during the next year, though what they can do to improve such a beautiful building puzzles me. Overall, we had a lovely holiday where we were treated well and made to feel quite special and we would recommend this hotel to anyone who likes the sun and good liviing.

We stayed at this hotel for Christmas the hotel is in a good location it gets the sun all day, it has a nice pool area and it is well kept.

The food is OK one or two days were a bit hit and miss but overall not bad, the rooms are clean and all have a sea view the only problem we did have was the lifts there is three and they just seam to have a mind of there own you can get in on floor two to go down and you will end up going up to every other floor in the hotel before you get there (11 floors) I would suggest you get a room on a lower floor so you can use the stairs you will still have a grate view because the hotel is on a cliff. (we stayed on floor 11)

Room Tip: Get one on a lower floor so you don't need the lifts they are bad.

First time in gran canaria, this hotel was really friendly, on arrival, we went to our room, very basic, but ok, it was clean, but beds or mattress very hard an it was single beds pushed together, which is a pet hate! The food was plenty an very nice... The staff were friendly an helpfull! It's due to be refurbished this year, when its finished it'll be a brill hotel, the location is quiet but that's what we like, my friend used the local dive centre an had a fantastic time. If you go here you must go to a wee village called port Mogan ( I think that the spellings wrong) but overall we had a relaxing week, and really enjoyed ourselves..
