Our second visit to this place of wonder.Without a doubt one of the best restaurants. you need to book way in advance. The experience is great thanks to the devotion and attention of the owners for everything that they do.

The Great Tasting menu (25 anniversary) of this 3 star restaurant is a ‘to die for’ experience. 12 savoury dishes followed by two desserts was outstanding. The progression of tastes takes you on a dining journey which is beyond anything I have ever experienced before. The standouts for me were, two dishes into the meal, the Mille feuille of smoked eel with foie gras and towards the end of the meal the basil and coral gazpacho. Not a dessert person normally or someone who photographs food dishes (i usually find that really annoying when someone starts doing that during a meal) but the chocolate, coffee and tea with crunchy quinoa was spectacular and I ended up taking a photo! This spectacular evening event ended with the chef’s visit and personally autograph chef’s whites being given to everyone in our party of 12. As restaurant experiences go it doesn’t get much better.

Our second visit to this place of wonder. The new 25th anniversary menu is just fantastic, with each of the 15 courses being imaginative and full of savour. Being accustomed to 3 star restaurants, we would grant it a special 4th star. Service is both professional and friendly. We’re sure to go there a third time...

The restaurant is in a beautiful setting, a 20 minute drive out of San Sebastián town. Even then all the tables were occupied. The service was faultless and the degustation menu was beautifully presented and delicious. We all had the degustation menu but each of the diners’ allergies were catered for with excellent alternatives. One can see why they have 3 stars and they certainly deserve the accolade. The owner and chef came out to greet us towards the end of our meal. The restaurant was a fitting culmination to an excellent gourmet experience in San Sebastián, and we will definitely be back. It was such an amazing experience that we will remember for a very long time.

Third stop of our basque foodietrip: ***Martin Berasategui. I was sure it would be a challenge for Martin Berasategui and his team to match the great experience we had the day before at Azurmendi. But again (like three years ago), they topped it! The 25th anniversary menu is simply a succession of outstanding dishes, every course perfect - superior basic products, excellent preparation, highly aestheic arrangements and superbly balanced and focused aromas.
With it came some excellent matching wines, greatly supporting the food, but never putting themselves in the foreground.
The staff is as you wish them to be in a *** restaurant: attentive, friendly, competent and unobtrusive.
Overall: an hard to match experience - again and again on the highest possible level, year by year! Simply outstanding!
