“PEACEFUL AREA!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 9, 2012

I travelled to Majorca with two female friends, we were booked into Hotel Monteverde in Porto Cristo, but after arriving there we were told they did'nt have room for us!! Monteverde transferred us to Sol Romantica, what a relief!! we were'nt looking forward to staying at Monteverde as reviews were very bad, as for here, what can I say, its very quiet, our apartment was lovely and clean and the balcony was huge with table and chairs, the restuarant was always clean as was the pool area, we stayed half board and the breakfast was a continental breakfast with toast, rolls, butter, jams, meats, yogurts, fruit, tea or coffee and fruit juice, more than enough! As for the evening meal this was fantastic, the food was of high standard and three different courses every night! could not fault it at all!, needless to say we all put on weight, the staff were always friendly and very happy to help, we had a little problem with the tap in our bathroom but this was sorted out the very next day!
You could walk to the beach but there is a courtesy mini bus laid on to take you there and bring you back that runs all day from 9 in the morning to 6.45 in the evening, the beach was really lovely and two restaurants to have a drink or food, which we did every day at lunch time.
The only downfall with the Sol Romantica is that if you want more bars and restaurants to go to then this is not the place for you as there is nowhere you can walk to, you need a taxi to get to Porto Cristo or further still Cala Millor. If you are looking for a quiet relaxing time away then this is the perfect place, I would definately go again and next time it would be for longer than a week!!!
I would totally recommend Sol Romantica for couples rather than families as there is really nothing for children other than a very small play area.

Stayed here on two separate occasions in June 2012, with hubby and young daughter aged 2. I thought it was really cheap when i booked but the reviews were good so thout it was worth a try. And i'm glad we went! Really clean, tidy, basic little apartment with a nice balcony, living room, separate bedrooms, and little kitchenette. Restaurant on site. Lovely pool area, including a little kiddies pool (no life guard) , and a little kiddies playground. You need a car to travel around, as otherwise you'd be bored after a few days i think, but with a car it is perfect. 5 min drive from nearest beach - and multiple beaches within a 20 min drive - including porto cristo which is only 10 mins away. Love it. We'll be coming back.

Room Tip: There is a block of apartments that over looks the pool, and a separate block about 2 mins walk awa...

We were looking for a quite & relaxing holiday.... We got it.
The hotel is very clean throughout, the restaurant is very modern with a very relaxing feel, the food is really good and fairly priced.
The pool are is very well looked after with a gardener that we saw working aleast 6 days a week if not more, he did a very good job at keeping the pool very clean and the surrounding areas clean and tidy. There were always free sunbeds with a very quite and relaxing atmosphere (apart from on Sundays when the locals come with the whole family, but hey its there country!)

The hotel itself is in an isolated position beach & nearest shop about 15 minutes walk (very hilly - if thats a word!) There is also a restaurant on the beach which is also good value for money and offer very tasty food.

Don't be put off by the hotel location as you can around with the road train for 3.50 euro one way or 7.20 return (The train stop is just outside the hotel, by the bike rental) The train takes you to Porto Christo, stopping at Cala Manderia, Cave de la Drac (& maybe one other stop inbetween)
The train times are very simple and was always on time (within 10 mins) At the the hotel it ran on the hour from 9am to 6pm (listen for the whistle) and leaving Porto Cristo, every half hour last train back is 6.30pm, stoping for lunch between half 1 and half 2.

Overall this is a lovely hotel with very friendly staff and is very clean, but is in an isolated place.

Room Tip: Ask to be by the main pool area as, there are other apartments a bit further down the road. We had S...

The hotels pool area is exellent, with at safe childrens pool. The restaurant and the service in all is very good. The apartment was big with two bedrooms, large (enough) kitchen/livingroom and bathroom, and a lovely balkony overlooking the mountains to the side, and a rather dry and yellow grass area right in front. We found that the one bedroom had a less pleasent smell (from the closet or the blankets?). We did'nt like the blankets much, but guess thats normal in Southern Europe. I found that the beds were hard, as they had no topmattresses.

The beach is a short walk from the hotel. About 15-20 min. At least 800 meters. We were offered a shuttle minibus to the beach which drove every 20 min all day.

The mini market is right between the hotel and beach.
There're two restaurants at the beach. In general we thought that the area/town of Cala Romantica was missing charm and ambiance. We wanted a holiday place without loud disco or aquagym music disturbing the atmosphere, but except from the beautifull beach (and the friendly Sol Romantica), the place has noting really to offer.

We ordered the airport bus transfer, thinking it would be a tolerant ride to the hotel aprox. 50 km from the airport, but It took 3 hours both ways, because it was picking up turists from about ten other hotels. And ecxhauting journey with two small children from 22h til 01h in the night.
The price was 15 euro pr. person each way (adults and children) A taxi, we were told, is 40 euro!

We rented a car on the spot, because the weather was too cold to go the beach. 155 euro for tree days, two children seats, gps and insurance. For the same price we could have rented it in advance from home, and saved the money to the bus transfer.

We liked staying at Sol Romantica, met very friendly guests and service, but I think we'll look for a more "small children safe" beach and a more cultural and charming town next time.

We had a studio apt and it was very clean and tidy, but kitchen small and very dark, really made cooking a chore. Sol Romantica is very isolated and one needs a car to go anywhere. Bus service at the door but does not run to timetable, frequently early and often late or non appearance. The apartment block is at the top of a hill and the whole residential area is very hilly. There are no shops close by but there is one very well stocked mini market within walking distance. The TV that was advertised was only broadcast in German, but it was very warm when we were there so TV watching was not a problem. Would go back as it was a very relaxing break but being forewarned is forearmed. Staff were excellent and helpful.

Sol Romantica is a nice base for exploring the Island. You need a car to stay there, since there isnt much to see or do close by, but hirering a car in Spain is very cheap. The staff is fantastic. Very nice and helpfull but stay clear of the restaurant its not good value for money.

The appartments have a small kitchen and a huge terrace, and its a perfect place to stay if you are on a budget. The pool is very nice and everything seems wellkept.

My girlfriend and I had a great vacation.
