Description: Is located in the municipality of Trecase, in the province of Naples, right in the heart of the Vesuvius National Park. This is a magical place, with wonderful natural scenery and breath-taking views, certain to lift away any cares and absorb your attention. Maurizio Russo began his project by producing wines, following in the footsteps of his father, Giovanni, who first established the family business back in 1951. To the north lies the sea, and to the south the age-old grandeur of Mount Vesuvius. In between, is this truly amazing landscape, with vineyards and olive-groves planted in dark soil, rich in lava. Set amongst the green vines is a white building with our reception area where you will receive a warm welcome from a group of people who love their work and want to show their unique heritage to the world. The Cantina del Vesuvio estate covers 11 hectares of south-facing land, and is situated at between 250 and 330 metres above sea level. The vines with white grapes are raised on pergolas, while the red grape varieties are trained as espaliers. Our first oenologist was Amodio Pesce, a great expert on Vesuvian viticulture, who was then succeeded by his son, Antonio. Hospitality: The Cantina del Vesuvio does not only pursue the art of producing wines, but also a culture of hospitality. Over recent years, Maurizio Russo has managed to achieve a real miracle in this small municipality of Trecase. With his single-mindedness and determination, he has managed to introduce enotourism in this challenging and little-known area, working with dedication and respect for his vineyards and producing high quality wines which reflect the special features of the locality. Maurizio has won the respect and loyalty of those who come to visit his estate, to such an extent that nowadays many of the top tour operators from countries such as the USA, UK, Germany, France and Japan now include a visit to the Cantina del Vesuvio in their holiday package, together with the classic excursions to the Amalfi Coast, Capri and Pompeii. Our visitors are always glad to pay a return visit to the estate, set in such a delightful position with a forest of umbrella pines climbing the slopes of Mount Vesuvius and forming a magnificent backdrop to the vineyards. The view towards the coast is truly breath-taking: from the Gulf of Naples to the imposing bulk of the volcano, and with the Island of Capri lying directly in your line of sight. Food and wine: We have three rooms to receive our guests, with comfortable corners to relax in, plus a clubhouse situated in the middle of the vineyards, the terrace of an old cottage once inhabited by vineyard workers. Visitors are welcomed by our attentive and efficient staff and can then enjoy the wonderful silence around them and store up memories for the future. We are one home, one family, with a shared sense of dedication. The dishes we offer our guests are prepared with love and care, using local ingredients. Our menu is simple but wholesome and based on traditional Mediterranean cooking. We make our sauce with little tomatoes from our own garden and superb virgin olive oil. The durum wheat pasta comes from the historic "Pastificio Setaro," while the bruschetta is made in our bread oven. Together with our hams, salamis and cheeses, you have all you need for a delicious and healthy lunch. Whether you are tourists, friends, day-trippers or simply enthusiasts from anywhere in the world: the Cantina del Vesuvio offers you a warm and expert welcome. The Cantina del Vesuvio produces and bottles its own wines, tending the vines with care throughout the year. From the cultivation of the vines, to the grape harvest to the final bottling: the whole process takes places on the estate. The vineyards are just 50 metres from the press, silos and bottling area.

We visited in May, 2016, took a tour of the winery and shared a meal in the cantina. Was one of the highlights of our trip. The area is simply beautiful, and the volcanic soil produces some on the best wine. Lunch at the cantina was outstanding. Ordering the outstanding wine online brings back so many good memories of our visit. Highly recommend a visit to this memorable location.

I have seized every opportunity to go here with visitors as it captures the essence of Napoli and how I hope to remember it when my family departs for the States. So far we have gone five times and I have recommended it dozens more!

On our first visit, the grandson of the original owner gave us a brief tour and history of the vineyards. Nestled on Mt Vesuvio with lovely views all round, the restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating. They serve just the right amount of cheese, bread, bruschetta, and light pasta with a tasty dessert cake.

The wine is very good to excellent and I usually buy a case of several kinds when we leave. The oil is also good but the wine vinegar is an absolute must have! My daughters were enchanted by the pink color and sweet taste balanced against the relatively sharp cheese and robust oil on homemade bread.

The wine is brought out one small glass after another, briefly described and, of course, pares with the food perfectly!

The service is spot on, friendly but not overbearing and consistently available with the next glass or food plate.

The drive is fairly simple and parking is easy too.

Make sure to go there and, if possible, take the opportunity to visit Herculaneum or Pompeii beforehand. Afterwards, you’ll just want to buy a few bottles for home and relax!
