On my recent trip to Hungary my family of four, all adults, stayed at the Hungest Hotel Palota in Lillafured Hungary. The hotel is lovely, the rooms and bathrooms are well appointed and modern, in old casing. The public rooms have a feel of lush royalty to them, from the furniture and art that hangs on the walls to the floor and wall coverings. The location is beautiful, with many outdoor activities. The hotel has a very well equipped and appointed, modern wellness center with several pools, several saunas, gym, two lane bowling alley and billiard room, and a salt cave. Because of the location in the hills, the air is fresh and the fauna is green. There are narrow gauge train trips available just outside the parking lot. There are natural caves you can visit with a guide just below the hotel and a cave thermal bath a short drive away. It is an excellent hotel for both families with children and couples seeking romance. The dining room is grand with views of the hills and live music during meal times. Meals were sufficient for the four days we were there, I thought the food could have been better. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Its is a pretty castle that I would go back to anytime.

This hotel is very special due to the location, surrounded by the mountains ( hills), the trees, the elegant surroundings. Overall it is a good hotel and i had no issues during my stay. The rooms were spacious, the staff were friendly, and it offered some good facilities - the swimming pools, spa etc.
The breakfast was ok, could do with some more variety , but i didn't mind what they offered ( good coffee's and teas, breads and cheeses and so on).
It is definitely a good hotel for a big wedding or a romantic long weekend away! It offers you the chance to relax and the price is very good too!

This hotel would be perfect if they sorted out the food, especially dinner. In the room price breakfast and dinner are included. Dinner was fatty, poor quality of ingredients, bored looking waiters.

Some parts of the hotel could do with a bit of paint. It is a shame that they don't seem to look after this gorgeous building.

The location is perfect. Lillafured and the lake are amazingly blissful.
Definitely take a ride on the little train to Garadna. It will take you through the forest. Great fun, fresh air and fantastic views of the lake.

The wellness section is nice and clean. I would come and stay again, hopefully they will offer better quality food next time I visit.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with balcony and lake view

We tried other hotels such as 'Sebesviz' in Lillafüred, but came to the conclusion that they are nowhere near the experience you get in Palota. This hotel is understandably one of THE HOTELs of Hungary. Perfect, romantic, high-class, reliably clean and elegant with polite and intelligent staff.

Room Tip: 209 is perfectly silent, with your own romantic balcony and a calm garden view.

We spent 2 nights at Hotel Palota with my husband. The service was excellent and so was the food (breakfast and dinner). Everything was very clean, well maintained.
The park around the Castle is wonderful so is the environment: Lillafüred, the Hámori-lake, the forest, the hills etc...
The best thing is however the wellness area which is the most well-equipped I have ever seen in a hotel. There were not too many people there as it was not a weekend and not high-season so you could relax at your pleasure.
I think we will definitely return and we can recommend this hotel to everyone!

Room Tip: Don't choose a room above the bowling area on the first floor !

The hotel looks absolutely stunning! Our room was comfortable and had an amazing view towards the forest (we even got a balcony)! The staff is very helpful, the most important thing is that they are able to give you a smile when they see you! I recommend this hotel for couples who wants to get some rest and escape from the city and also for families!

My better half and a friend stayed here for 2 nights in April 2012. We had rooms 244 and 243 that faced the back side of the hotel. The property, purpose-built almost 100-years ago is very well managed. The service was outstanding, the rooms comfortable and the surroundings very peaceful. I highly recommend this property if you're after some R&R, although I can assume it may get quite crowded at times. We were fortunate to spend a quiet weekend - and will do so again in the future. As usual, The Good, The OK, and The Bad

The Good
- Check-in. Completed in <5 minutes and greeted warmly.
- The room. We reserved a standard room with a balcony. The room was quite nice if on the small size with a queen-size bed and a small desk and sitting chair. The room had a large closet with plenty of room, along with a safe large enough to store a laptop.
- The bathroom. Well done for a small/medium-sized space. The shower was quite large and comfortable and the heated towel rack came in handy. The room also included specific towels to use in the sauna area which we also enjoyed.
- The food. Our rate included a buffet breakfast and dinner. Both were excellent - and I mean that. The food was solid Hungarian fare with many different offerings. If you are looking for Western-style food, then look elsewhere, but if you enjoy really good local food - than this place will suit you. We also ate in the restaurant for lunch - and the food was superb. We enjoyed the deer gyulas along with the goose liver. Well done indeed and hat's off to the chefs and the wait staff. All attentive and nice.
- The location. Wow. Set among the small mountains just outside of Miskolc, the trees, birds, small lake, etc. made for nice walks and beautiful scenery. No matter which side your room faces, you will see the forest and the hills.
- The free train ride. There is a small-gauge railway that will take you through the hills on a scenic ride of about 1 hour round trip. The ride was free and quite enjoyable.
- Park area for children. While this was an adult only trip, we saw a nice playground for the kids which would come in use potentially across future visits.
- Deck chairs outside on the lawn. While it was a bit cool to take advantage, these very nice deck chairs would come in handy during a warm day.
- Free parking.

The OK
- Sauna. The indoor area - which contains 2 swimming pools, a hot tub, steam room, sauna, etc. is really nice. It only scores an "ok" with me due to the overall size. It appeared to me that the hotel was not busy across our stay, but the sauna area was. So, if you are coming during a busy period, expect this area to be quite full.
- We all had massages which were solid. What I found odd was that we were not covered, therefore we had to keep our bottoms on. Not that I minded, but while not a massage expert, I am used to being in my birthday suit with a towel covering sections....

The Bad
- I am digging here because this place was super nice. However, the pillows were of poor quality. Exchanging this idea on the way home, our friend said we could have selected other pillow types from the front desk. if that's the case - this "bad" moves to an "ok" or "good."

In summary, I highly recommend this place for a nice relaxing stay that has many outdoor activity options. The staff are well trained and the hotel overall is a gem.

Enjoy Hotel Palota.

Room Tip: Our room was on the "backside" of the hotel with a balcony. The balcony offered a nice sit...
