We stayed at the Carlton having arrived in Dublin from Holyhead following a two week car cation taking in most of the UK. Needless to say when my wife and I arrived with our four year old we were past ourselves! Check in was swift and friendly and our room was beautiful. Really spacious and modern with floor to ceiling windows. The bed was really comfortable and the bathroom was a good size with separate power shower which was excellent; the best of our trip in fact. The flat screen TV was built into a unit on the wall and it was very difficult to operate. Thankfully we didn't have time to watch TV. Wifi was included but a bit hit and miss. Ended up skyping my dad in the hallway which wasn't ideal! The hotel is really close to the Blanchardstown shopping park which looked very american like and impressive. We ate in TGI Fridays there which was fun. Food was very good. We were also impressed with how close the hotel was to Dublin Airport; no more than 10 mins and dead easy to drive to. It's more problematic finding the hotel in fact as other reviewers have stated. We were coming from the docks area and it was quite hairy at times! Biggest disappointment was breakfast. It was on until 1030 and at 1030 on the dot it was whipped away. I think if this is the case you need to plan in 30 minutes slippage so advertise it as finishing at 1000. We witnessed a family arriving at 1015 and by the time they sorted out their wee ones there was very little time left. I have stayed in many 4 star hotels and breakfast never completes until at least half an hour after the advertised time. We arrived down at 1000 and the place was like a bomb site, tables littered with dirty plates, poor selection and generally messy. There simply was not enough staff on. We had to ask twice for tea. The breakfast element was more like a two star experience; it was as though we had entered a different hotel. Overall though I think this is a great spot and would definitely come back. It would be great to see a park and fly rate introduced.
