This had been on my list for quite some time. So, so glad we saw it! The phone is not always answered so as this is also a family home, If staying locally ask your hotel to organise. Sean Ryan the owner is a true old Irish gentleman with many musical gifts. His stories alone would be worth travelling for and we will be back. PM me for any further info but i would advise doing a bit of research on the castle history and legends before going as Sean was delighted we knew and were able to engage with him! Best 6 euro spent in a very long time!!

Leap Castle (pronounced lep to rhyme with pep) has often been called “The Most Haunted Castle in Ireland”and a visit is a not to be missed experienced by both ghost story enthusiasts and history buffs. Sean Ryan, the castle’s owner who has been restoring Leap for decades now and will show you around, is a delightful and charming storyteller as well as a highly celebrated musician. If you didn’t believe in the existence of ghosts before visiting Leap, you will almost certainly believe after hearing of Sean’s experiences over the years in which he has lived in the castle. For me, the 6 Euros charged for a tour was the best 6 Euros I could possibly have spent in the whole of Ireland!

Sean is so very nice and is a great story teller. Not to mention a great tin whistle player. He told us a lot about the history of the area and the castle and has done such a great job fixing it up. It was a beautiful place and really interesting. If you get a chance to go to Ireland you should definitely try to visit Sean, you will not be disappointed.

Special, as my husband's great great grandfather was the head gardener and game keeper for 25 years at Leap Castle until 1853 when he left Ireland for New Zealand. The current owner Sean Ryan was able to offer a clearer understanding of John's job there, and the importance of his working role for the owners at that time.... The Darby family. We were able to show Sean a beautiful Irish silver gravy boat that was inscribed with Leap Castle to John Algie for his years of service, and presented to him when he left the castle.
It was incredibly interesting as to how they lived back then and the importance of the many locals who kept the castle running for the family owners. Possibly hundreds. Sean lives there now, but he opens his "now home" to those who may be interested in its history, sitting in front of a huge fireplace. Sean is a wonderful Irish flutist, and we just adore the music on his CD. Sean we so enjoyed listening to your history lesson on Leap Castle & its incredible past. The little girls, ghostly sightings, the bloody chapel, and especially your wonderful hospitality.
For anyone wanting to go, it's just a few miles out of Roscrae on A421. Just pull into his iron gates and just knock on his enormous door. You will be welcome, & only a meagre €6 charge.

Going on a lovely country drive through Roscrea... And came across one of the most haunted castles in Ireland.... It s privately owned so actually gaining entry may be a little more difficult though they do tours as there was evidence of formal coach parking at the front... But we drove past it too late...

though the benefit of the long summer days meant we could see it clearly at 8 pm ... I am planning a return visit to actually gain entry to the castle... A surprise around every corner when driving through the counties of Ireland....
